Pituitary tumors or tumors of the sella turcica include pituitary neuroendocrine tumors, Rathke's cleft cysts, craniopharyngiomas, tuberculum sellae, planum sphenoidale meningiomas, germ cell tumors, and hypophysitis. In addition, some rare tumors, such as pituicytomas, granular cell tumors, spindle cell oncocytomas, and chordomas or chondrosarcomas, arise from the parasellar regions. The treatment strategy is completely different for each lesion; therefore, accurate diagnosis is essential.

Immune checkpoint inhibitors have revolutionized cancer therapy but are associated with a risk of endocrine immune-related adverse events, including pituitary complications. Autoimmune hypophysitis, traditionally a rare diagnosis, has become a more frequently encountered clinical entity with the emergence of antitumor immunotherapy. This mini-review aims to consolidate current knowledge, encompassing the epidemiology, pathophysiology, clinical presentation, diagnosis, and management of pituitary complications of immune checkpoint inhibitor use.

We report a case of a patient with longstanding Behçet disease, with neurological symptoms predominantly, who became hospitalized for adrenal insufficiency, caused by isolated deficiency of corticotropin (DAACTH). DAACTH is a typical characteristic of hypophysitis, reported in association with many autoimmune diseases. Nevertheless, hypothalamic-pituitary injury in Behçet disease is exceptional. We review the literature and possible mechanisms of this association until now not reported.

We report here a case of acquired hypopituitarism in a female neonate with Salmonella enteritidis sepsis and cystic encephalomalacia, after prolonged dopamine administration. Severe hyponatremia was suggestive of hypopituitarism development and the later was documented by hormonal status. This is the first report of infectious hypophysitis in neonatal age. The careful monitoring of pituitary function should be recommended for septic patients exposed to prolonged use of dopamine.

The effectiveness of 1-deamino-8-d-arginine-vasopressin (DDAVP) has been evaluated in a case of insipid hypothalamo-hypophyseal familial diabetes. CONTEXT: The programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1)/programmed cell death protein ligand 1 (PD-L1) pathway is a key regulator in T-cell activation and tolerance, limiting effector T-cell function in peripheral tissues. A clinical analysis of 108 cases of anaplastic hypophyseal adenomas (AHA) was performed to formulate the clinical AHA symptom-complex and to study their biological peculiarities. AHA is a transitory type from benign to malignant tumors. It accounts for 2.5-18% of all hypophyseal adenomas. The anamnesis period is surprisingly short even in cases of large and giant neoplasms. Morphological examination of hypophyses in craniopharyngiomas showed that the hypophysis as a formed gland may be absent in the sella turcica, but aggregations of its cells in certain amount may be found in the fibrous capsule of craniopharyngioma. It is quite possible that exactly this fact explains to a certain measure the increasing hormonal deficit in total and subtotal removal of the tumor.

Pembrolizumab, a selective anti-PD-1 humanized monoclonal antibody, reactivates T cells to fight cancer.
