A consecutive series of 36 Japanese patients with ampullary carcinoma who underwent a pancreatoduodenectomy at the Department of Surgery I, Kyushu University Hospital during the past 20 years were reviewed clinicopathologically to study prognostic factors. A univariate generalized Wilcoxon test showed that preoperative serum carcino-embryonic antigen (CEA) concentration, venous invasion, lymphatic permeation and perineural invasion were significant parameters. The feasibility of using the hamster cheek pouch/dimethyl-benzanthracene (DMBA) system as an experimental model of lymphatic metastasis was investigated. The target scientific research studies the results of clinicoroentgenological examination among 100 patients with mediastinal limphomas. The most typical X-ray and CT signs were demonstrated. The investigation proves CT to be highly informative method in diagnosis of mediastinal limphomas. CT provides a more complete picture, making it easier to diagnose problems, determine the extent of disease, prescribe treatment, and track progress. The mediastinal lymphomas must be diagnosed based on clinical, observation and laboratory, roentgenological, CT and morphological diagnostic testing.

One-hundred-twenty-three cases of malignant pleural mesothelioma were reviewed. Exposure to asbestos or to other industrial dusts or chemicals was an important etiologic factor with 24% of patients relating such a history. Angiosarcoma is an exceedingly rare and aggressive neoplasm. Owing to early metastasis even in low-grade tumors, it is associated with poor survival. We report a late development of an angiosarcoma in a saphenous vein graft after a femoral artery to above-knee popliteal artery bypass performed for disabling claudication. Chronic inflammation, lymphatic disruption, and thrombosis of the graft may have contributed to the malignant transformation, similar to cases described as occurring after arteriovenous fistulae creation. The survival, and the patterns and mechanisms of failure of 41 patients with pure testicular seminoma treated at the Northern Israel Oncology Center from 1968 to 1983 were analyzed. The actuarial 5-year survival of all patients was 85.4% and of stage I patients, 92.2%. Treatment failures were analyzed. The following conclusions were reached: in order to increase the cure rate, the use of combination chemotherapy as the initial treatment modality in advanced seminoma is recommended. PURPOSE: Recent studies indicated that the scaffolding adaptor protein GAB2 (GRB2-associated binding protein 2) plays a critical role in the proliferation and migration of various cancers. This study aimed to determine the role of aberrant GAB2 expression in human colorectal cancer (CRC).
METHODS: Quantitative real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction was used to evaluate GAB2 mRNA expression in 152 CRC tissues samples to determine the clinicopathological significance of GAB2 expression. We also performed in vitro proliferation assays using siGAB2-transfected CRC cells.
