In nine patients with CLL treated with chlorambucil followed by alpha-2b-interferon (alpha 2b-IFN), T, B and natural killer (NK) cells and NK activity were studied before entering the study, after chlorambucil treatment, and after administration of alpha 2b-IFN. The aim of the work was to study the effect of glucocorticoids, opiates and stressful stimuli on dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DP IV, EC 3.4.14.5) activity of T lymphocytes prepared from the thymus of intact and adrenalectomized rats. Human T-lymphotropic virus type I (HTLV-I)--associated myelopathy (HAM) has been shown to be closely related to HTLV-I infection. However, the mechanism by which this disease occurs after infection with HTLV-I is still obscure. We have compared by reverse phase HPLC the set of peptides eluted from HLA class I molecules in resting and activated CD4+ Jurkat cells. Two peptides were identified that are presented de novo upon activation. After sequencing, one of these peptides turned out to derive from IL-1R antagonist (IL-1Ra).
