Resorcinol is a simple aromatic chemical (1,3-benzenediol) that has found widespread use, particularly as a coupler in hair dyes. Clinical experience clearly shows that resorcinol is a (albeit uncommon) skin sensitizer. Measurements of umbo velocity and auditory brainstem response (ABR) were made on two different strains of mice, 129S6/SvEvTac (129S6) and CBA/CaJ (CB), within three different age ranges. The influence of L. monocytogenes on the hemopoietic system was studied in mouse experiments. All elements of hemopoiesis were damaged. The most pronounced changes developed in erythropoiesis. This was testified by a decrease in erythrocyte count and hemoglobin content in peripheral blood, by the hypoplasia of the hemopoietic erythroid germ in the marrow, as well as by the decrease of yield in culture CFU-E. These changes in the hemopoietic tissue supposedly caused by the direct action of L. monocytogenes and its toxins.

Previous work has indicated that autoimmunity to the mammalian 60-kD heat shock protein (hsp60) may be necessary for the development of pristane-induced arthritis (PIA), a murine model of rheumatoid arthritis. Recent advances on the congenital hemolytic anemia due to enzymopathies related to the red cell glycolytic pathway were summarized based on the review articles and reports. A number of investigations has clarified detailed molecular and genetic aspects of the disease, thus facilitating our understanding on the mechanisms of variable clinical expression, as well as the known limitation to the red cell system in some enzymopathies. These findings are expected to be connected with development of the save and rational therapeutic approaches.

The rate and early pattern of development of radiation-induced renal damage has been determined in the mouse by measuring reductions in both haematocrit and excretion of 51Cr-EDTA, and increases in both urination frequency and urine volume. Two isolates of Schistosoma mansoni from Puerto Rico and Egypt were examined to determine if there were differences in surface antigens of the schistosomulum and to assess the ability of the two isolates to induce protection against one another in vivo.
