Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumors are rare benign tumors that can mimic malignancy of unknown aetiology. It has spectrum of myofibroblastic proliferation along with varying amount of inflammatory infiltrate. Recently, the concept of this lesion being reactive has been challenged based on the clinical demonstration of recurrences and metastasis and cytogenetic evidence of acquired clonal chromosomal abnormalities. We hereby report a case of inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor involving liver, gallbladder pylorus and 1st part of duodenum.

RATIONALE: Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumors (IMTs) are rare neoplastic lesions with benign tendency. Even more rare are IMTs from the greater omentum (GO-IMT). A GO-IMT is easily misdiagnosed as other malignant tumors before operation; thus, clinicians need to be familiar with its imaging findings. Pericytes have been identified as a major source of myofibroblasts in renal interstitial fibrosis (RIF). The overactivation of several signaling pathways, mainly the TGF-β and PDGF pathways, initiates the pericyte-myofibroblast transition during RIF. BACKGROUND: Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) is a rare and mostly benign tumor that has the possibility of malignant change.
METHODS: Radiological findings revealed a huge mass that filled most of the right hemithorax of a 17-monthold female infant. Tumor extirpation was stopped due to massive bleeding and limited exposure of the tumor. Embolization was conducted to obstruct the arteries feeding the mass. Complete resection was performed.
RESULTS: Histopathologic examination led to the diagnosis of IMT. Postoperative recovery was uneventful.

We report a case of inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor of the posterior mediastinum and describe radiological features demonstrated on fluoro-esophagogram, computed tomography and positron-emission tomography. Fluoroscopic video-esophagogram was remarkable for an unusual polypoid lesion associated with partial esophageal obstruction and features of secondary achalasia. Computed tomography (CT) examination demonstrated coarse calcifications and air pockets, while unusual clinical features included an intraluminal esophageal lesion and local recurrence with endobronchial lesion.

A 9-year-old boy presented with gross hematuria of 2 days duration. Cystoscopic evaluation revealed an anterior bladder mass. Pathology was consistent with eosinophilic cystitis, and a steroid regimen was initiated accordingly, but no improvement ensued. Concern for alternate malignant pathology led to open resection and the ultimate diagnosis of inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor of the bladder. Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor is a rare tumor of the bladder in children and to our knowledge has not previously been associated with a misleading eosinophil-rich mucosal inflammatory response.
