Dear Editor,Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common malignancy worldwide. As a pragmatic approach, European Consensus classified BCC as easy totreat and difficult to treat. They defined difficulttotreat BCC as all locally advanced BCCs and also common BCCs with management problems due to technical difficulties or conditions related to the patient (1). Even surgery is the gold standard treatment for difficult to treat BCC; considering the treatment's potential risks and patients' preferences, alternative treatment modalities might be preferable. Immunocryosurgery, which is an innovative a

Basocellular carcinomas are characterized by their non-deep spread neoplastic nature. Although treatment typically proceeds without complication, excision in critical facial regions can lead to aesthetically undesirable defects. Furthermore, elderly patients often express aesthetic concerns, particularly regarding the thinning of the upper lip over time. This article presents the case of a 75-year-old patient with a basocellular carcinoma located on the tip of the nose, amidst a history of multiple neoplastic conditions. To address the defect, an inferiorly-based philtral advancement flap was

INTRODUCTION: Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common cutaneous cancer. We report the efficacy and aesthetic outcome of intralesional IFN-α 2b injection for the treatment of BCC and compare with the surgical method.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Intralesional IFN-α 2b was injected in 58 BCC lesions from 20 patients three times a week for three weeks. Control group was retrospectively selected among patients who underwent surgical method (standard surgical excision) for BCC including 58 lesions from 24 patients. All patients were followed up for one year in terms of recurrence and cosmetic outc

Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common form of skin cancer in the United States. Due to the high frequency, BCC occurrences are not typically recorded, and annual rates of incidence can only be estimated. Current estimated rates are 2 million Americans affected annually, and this continues to rise. Exposure to radiation, from either sunlight or previous medical therapy, is a key player in BCC development. BCC is not as aggressive as other skin cancers because it is less likely to metastasize. However, surgery and radiation are prevalent treatment options, therefore disfigurement and lim

Skin cancer is often associated with greater morbidity and mortality in skin of color patients because most medical literature and research on skin cancer to date has been predominantly focused on lighter skin types. It is crucial that dermatologic providers be able to recognize different presentations of skin cancer in skin of color patients to optimize the early detection of these tumors and ensure equitable outcomes. This article details the epidemiology, risk factors, clinical features, and disparities in the treatment of melanoma, squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma, and mycosis

Basal cell carcinomas and melanoma are common cutaneous malignancies. However, the development of a basomelanocytic tumor that simultaneously includes elements of melanoma and basal cell carcinoma is extremely rare. We present the case of an 84-year-old man who presented with a nonpigmented, nonulcerated pink nodule of his left upper back and discuss the current management recommendations for basomelanocytic tumors.

BACKGROUND: Eyelid basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is usually cured by surgery. However, for a minority of patients, extensive disease progression and recurrence contraindicate surgery or radiotherapy because of severe ocular morbidity. The hedgehog signaling pathway inhibitor vismodegib is becoming the key treatment for this specific form.
OBJECTIVE: The aim of this review was to define the role of surgery after vismodegib treatment.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A literature search of the PubMed, Cochrane Library, ScienceDirect, and Embase databases was conducted for all articles published up to March

The association of cutaneous and extracutaneous abnormalities is a common phenomenon, widely described in a variety of genetic syndromes. Nevertheless, yet undescribed syndromic combinations may still exist. Herein we present a case report of a patient who was admitted to the Dermatology Department due to multiple basal cell carcinomas arising from nevus sebaceous. In addition to the cutaneous malignancies, the patient presented with palmoplantar keratoderma, prurigo nodularis, hypothyroidism, multiple lumbar abnormalities, uterine myoma, an ovarian cyst, and highly dysplastic colon adenoma. PURPOSE: Melanoma is the most lethal of the three primary skin cancers, including also basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), which are less lethal. The accepted diagnosis process involves manually observing a suspicious lesion through a Dermascope (i.e., a magnifying glass), followed by a biopsy. This process relies on the skill and the experience of a dermatologist. However, to the best of our knowledge, there is no accepted automatic, noninvasive, and rapid method for the early detection of the three types of skin cancer, distinguishing between them and noncancerous l

BACKGROUND: Basal cell carcinoma, seborrheic keratosis, and nevus are common skin conditions. Though most of the skin diseases can be distinguished from each other by physician's naked eyes, the diagnostic accuracy is not 100%. The accurate diagnosis and assessment of three diseases make a big difference on the clinical management. Nowadays, biopsy is still the gold standard for diagnosis even it is invasive, time-consuming, and painful. Ultrahigh-resolution optical coherence tomography is an emerging technology that can produce in situ, cellular-resolution, real-time, continuous, 3D images in

BACKGROUND: Actinic keratosis (AK) is a pre-neoplastic skin damage caused by sun exposure with a risk of transforming squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) ranging from 0.1%-20%, while it should be differentiated with many diseases such as seborrheic keratosis (SK), discoid lupus erythematosus (DLE), Bowen's disease, and basal cell carcinoma(BCC) et al. Reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) as a non-invasive method is showing an increasing diagnostic accuracy. Currently, there are a few studies that summarized the characteristics of AK with RCM.
AIM: The study aimed to find the diagnostic value of di

The differential diagnosis of Grover disease (GD) includes pemphigus foliaceus. However, the focal nature of the histologic findings and negative direct immunofluorescent point to the diagnosis of GD. It has been associated with a variety of systemic and cutaneous diseases, but its association with other primary acantholytic disorders has been rarely documented. In this article, we describe the first case of GD in association with pemphigus foliaceus.
