PURPOSE: Recent advances in intraoral ultrasonography (US) have enabled quantitative evaluation of periodontal tissues; however, limitations regarding applicable measurement sites and structural visualization remain. This study aimed to investigate the anatomical accuracy and measurement reproducibility of intraoral US imaging for soft and hard periodontal tissues, comprising buccal and lingual palatal surfaces and dental calculus.
METHODS: US images were captured from the gingival margin (GM), alveolar bone crest (ABC), and cementoenamel junction (CEJ) of 108 teeth from fixed human cadavers.

The purpose of the present study was to evaluate periodontal health status in children with sickle cell disease (SCD). Forty-nine children with SCD and 39 systemically healthy sex- and age-matched children were enrolled in the study. Plaque index, gingival index, bleeding on probing, pocket depth, salivary volume, and hyperplastic index were recorded. Using the method of laser Doppler flowmetry the study of microcirculation in periodontal tissues in patients with moderate chronic generalized periodontitis and metabolic syndrome was carried out. The analysis of microcirculation values proved not only the reduction of blood flow intensity but also the decreased vasoactivity of microvessels essential to maintain normal microcirculation in periodontal tissues, as it provides active modulation of tissue blood flow and its adaptation to local metabolic needs.

Mandibular injuries are the most common pathology of facial the skeleton. The aim of the study was to substantiate the effectiveness of treatment of this pathology using transosseous osteosynthesis method from the experimental and morphological point of view. The formation of bone union of mandibular fragments has been confirmed experimentally in 27 adult mongrel dogs after a month of fixation by the device and within a month after its demounting. The fibrous-and-connective union of full functional value has been formed in the zone of mandibular junction rupture in the same periods.

The primary teeth of four dogs were treated using either a conventional formocresol or electrosurgical technique following pulpotomy. Pulps of the treated teeth were evaluated histologically for the presence of inflammation, fibrosis, necrosis, resorption, and reparative dentin formation. Results indicated that conventional formocresol pulpotomy technique is histopathologically superior to electrosurgery pulpotomy technique.

The correlation between downgrowth of subgingival plaque and loss of attachment was evaluated on 27 teeth which had to be extracted because of advanced bone loss in 16 patients between ages 12 and 22. After increasing the width of the attached gingiva by free palatal mucosa transplants, 20 procedures with coronal flap repositioning were performed on 41 teeth with gingival recessions in 13 young adults.
