Calcitonin (CT) deficiency has been suggested as an etiologic factor in postmenopausal osteoporosis (PM-OP). Basal immunoreactive calcitonin (iCT) was measured with a sensitive radioimmunoassay (RIA) in 62 PM-OP women with compression fractures (CF) and in 28 normal age-matched women. In a double-blind parallel study daily intravaginal administration of conjugated estrogen cream and estradiol cream for 14 days relieved vasomotor and vaginal postmenopausal symptoms in 29 postmenopausal women. By day 14, therapy with the estradiol vaginal cream resulted in plasma estrone and estradiol levels closer to those in premenopausal women than therapy with the conjugated estrogen cream. A 53-year-old woman presented with hirsutism of long duration and virilization of recent onset. She was gravida 12 para 9. The 17-ketosteroids were normal, gonadotropins were in the post-menopausal range, and the serum testosterone was in the male range. After bilateral oophorectomy, the testosterone became normal. Ovarian pathology revealed stromal hyperthecosis.

A 60-year-old woman, 20 years post-menopausal, who had deforming rheumatoid arthritis of 7 years' duration and Sjögren's syndrome of 1 year's duration, had had postmenopausal bleeding for a month prior to admission to the hospital. 41 female patients with a stress incontinence of grade II or III were treated with 2 mg estriol daily over a period of 2-4 months. The function of the bladder was objectively evaluated by urethrocystotonometry. A significant rise of the urethral pressure profile could be demonstrated in 95% (39/41) of patients. An improvement of the stress incontinence by one clinical grade could be shown, but in no case a completely continent bladder sphincter.

Urinary disorders associated with the menopause were studied in 300 postmenopausal women between the ages of 45 and 85; 210 were multiparous and 90 nulliparous. The presenting urinary symptom was dysuria in 60 patients and incontinence in 100 patients. In the latter group, 25 had urgency-incontinence, 45 stress-incontinence, and 30 a combined form. In 47 women with postmenopausal osteoporosis, pretreatment studies by microradiography, radioimmunoassay and other methods showed increased bone resorption, normal bone formation, and decreased serum immunoreactive parathyroid hormone (PTH). BACKGROUND: This study aimed to investigate the knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) of postmenopausal women toward postmenopausal osteoporosis (PMOP).
METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted between March and July 2024 at the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University among postmenopausal women, using a self-administered questionnaire. KAP scores ≥70% were defined as adequate levels based on previous literature. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was constructed based on the KAP theoretical framework to examine the relationships among knowledge, attitude, and practice.
