Cumulative ecological risk, dysfunctional beliefs and attitudes about sleep, and sleep quality among Chinese adolescents: the indirect association of psychological distress.

BACKGROUND: Adolescent sleep problems have gained increasing attention; however, systematic research integrating both external environmental and internal cognitive factors is still lacking. This study focuses on Chinese adolescents and investigates the associations among cumulative ecological risk, dysfunctional beliefs and attitudes about sleep, psychological distress, and sleep quality. The goal is to examine the potential indirect associations involving psychological distress within the context of cognitive and environmental factors. METHODS: This study employed a random sampling method to

A multidimensional model of turnover intention in sport science academia.

BACKGROUND: This study investigates the organisational predictors of turnover intention amongst higher education academics, particularly in sports sciences, where academics manage a unique dual role involving both theoretical teaching and practical sports lessons. METHODS: The study explores how organisational identification, commitment, psychological safety, job satisfaction, and mental well-being contribute to turnover intention. Data were collected from 263 sports science academics using validated scales, and hypotheses were tested regarding these variables' direct and indirect effects. R

How to predict medication adherence and other health-related adherence in patients with inflammatory arthritis?

OBJECTIVE: This study investigated the role of psychological variables (anxiety, depression, beliefs about medication, satisfaction and frustration of basic psychological needs, and mindfulness skills) on adherence in patients with inflammatory arthritis (IA). METHODS: 250 patients with IA completed an online questionnaire at baseline (T0) and three months later (T1). Their adherence was assessed at T1 with the General Adherence for Chronic Disease Profile (GACID-P) exploring patients' daily life and medical domains of adherence. Measures carried out at T0 included sociodemographic variables,

Psychological induction of interoceptive states.

Physiological changes to the body can give rise to interoceptive states, which are characterised by a particular feel, a bodily location, and motivational salience, with these features often evolving over time. The experimental study of interoception often involves generating a physiological change to produce the interoceptive state. This has conceptual and empirical limitations. Conceptually, isolating the role of psychological processes is difficult when the interoceptive state is always preceded by a physiological change. Empirically, generating a physiological change may be impractical in

Strategic vulnerability on mitigating malicious academic envy and enhancing institutional resilience in medical faculty.

Academic envy, particularly its malicious form, constitutes a silent epidemic that destabilizes medical faculty through counterproductive work behaviours and diminished psychological well-being. This review addresses the "zero-sum" culture inherent in competitive medical hierarchies by proposing Strategic Vulnerability as an institutional intervention. Strategic Vulnerability advocates structured sharing of navigated professional struggles by senior faculty. This is a mentoring strategy promoting competent humility, psychological safety, and benign rather than malicious envy. The proposed "Sca

Treatment-outcome research in panic disorder: dilemmas in reconciling the demands of pharmacological and psychological methodologies.

Panic disorder with or without agoraphobia has been the subject of sustained treatment-outcome research. Studies have been conducted by both pharmacologically- and psychologically-oriented researchers each employing their own methodologies. Problems arise in attempting to reconcile the demands of these two treatment-outcome methodologies, whilst at the same time ensuring that research designs reflect the reality of wider clinical practice. In the following discussion a series of studies comparing pharmacological and psychological treatments for panic disorder and agoraphobia are reviewed. The

Effects of Choice Set Sizes and Moderations of Anxiety and State Emotions on Mental Health Self-Care Uptake, Engagement, and User Experience: Experimental Study.

BACKGROUND: Digital mental health platforms often consist of many different forms of self-care exercises. To our knowledge, whether the number of choices presented to the users affects their uptake and experiences and poses negative consequences (ie, not choosing any exercises, choice dissatisfaction) for users, especially those experiencing anxiety and depressive symptoms or unpleasant state emotions, has not been empirically investigated. OBJECTIVE: This study investigated the impact of choice set size on practice decisions, completion, satisfaction, and subjective experiences, as well as p

Digital Masculinity and Digital Media Exposure in Relation to Male Genital Self-Image, Mental Health, and Sexual Health: A Scoping Review.

ABSTARCTMale genital self-image is increasingly recognized as an important determinant of men's sexual health, psychological well-being, and body image. The rapid expansion of social media, pornography, and digital masculinity ideals has raised concerns about their influence on unrealistic genital appearance expectations; however, evidence remains fragmented across disciplines. This scoping review mapped the literature on the relationships among digital masculinity, digital media exposure, male genital self-image, psychological well-being, and sexual health. The review followed the Joanna Brig

Psychological skills training for sport-related outcomes: An umbrella review of evidence credibility and methodological quality.

Psychological skills training (PST) is widely used in sport, but review-level evidence remains fragmented across interventions, populations, outcomes, and methodological standards. This umbrella review synthesized evidence on PST-related interventions for sport-related outcomes, including athletic performance, psychological outcomes, cognitive performance, and sports injury, and evaluated evidence credibility, certainty, and methodological quality. A systematic literature search was conducted on 21 May 2025 in MEDLINE, PsycInfo, PubMed, Scopus, SportDiscus, Web of Science, and CINAHL Complete.

Inherent commonalities between arts-based leisure activities and psychological therapies.

Prevalences of anxiety, depression, and related mental health difficulties continue to rise across many high-income countries, while existing treatment services face growing pressures and limited capacity. Alongside formal psychological and pharmacological interventions, everyday behaviours that support mental health resilience warrant greater attention. An expanding evidence base shows that arts-based leisure activities-including participating in music, visual arts, dance, creative writing, and visiting cultural venues and performances-can produce meaningful psychological benefits for people

The Marcus Institute for Brain Health: an integrated practice unit for the care of traumatic brain injury in military veterans.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a signature wound of recent Unites States military conflicts. The National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE) has demonstrated that interdisciplinary care is effective for active-duty military personnel with TBI and related psychological health conditions. This paper details how the Marcus Institute for Brain Health (MIBH), established in 2017 as an Integrated Practice Unit (IPU), is founded on the NICoE model and is dedicated to interdisciplinary care for Veterans with persistent symptoms due to TBI and psychological comorbidities. Biological, Psychological, and Social Determinants of Depression: A Review of Recent Literature.

Depression is one of the leading causes of disability, and, if left unmanaged, it can increase the risk for suicide. The evidence base on the determinants of depression is fragmented, which makes the interpretation of the results across studies difficult. The objective of this study is to conduct a thorough synthesis of the literature assessing the biological, psychological, and social determinants of depression in order to piece together the puzzle of the key factors that are related to this condition. Titles and abstracts published between 2017 and 2020 were identified in PubMed, as well as

Therapeutic implications of psychological state in patients with alopecia areata: A qualitative study.

Hair loss can significantly impact an individual's psychological state, self-image, and can lead to numerous personal, social, and occupational problems. Although these impairments are well documented in primary studies and reviews, and the need for appropriate psychological help is emphasized, there is still a lack of knowledge for a broader and specific picture. The patient's perspective is vital while seeking to understand the content of the variables like "impaired body image" or "low self-esteem." This article advocates the need for studies involving methodologies allowing to explore the

Psychoneuroimmunology-developments in stress research.

Links between the central nervous stress system and peripheral immune cells in lymphoid organs have been detailed through 50 years of intensive research. The brain can interfere with the immune system, where chronic psychological stress inhibits many functions of the immune system. On the other hand, chronic peripheral inflammation-whether mild (during aging and psychological stress) or severe (chronic inflammatory diseases)-clearly interferes with brain function, leading to disease sequelae like fatigue but also to overt psychiatric illness. In recent years, it has been observed that psycholo
