The metabolic fate of the anticoagulant protein, hirudin, and its complex with thrombin are presently unknown. Therefore we have labelled hirudin and human thrombin-hirudin complex with the residualizing label dilactitol-125I-tyramine (*I-DLT) in order to identify their tissue sites of catabolism in the rat. The ability of papaverine to inhibit human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) replication in H9 cell line and in peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) culture was examined. HIV-infected H9 cells were exposed to different concentrations of papaverine for 20 days. Streptomyces thermohygroscopicus is a thermoactinomycetes which has been found recently to be related to farmer's lung in China. In the present study, a model of acute farmer's lung was successfully developed with extracellular proteinases of streptomyces thermohygroscopicus (EPST) in the rabbit, and the precipitating antibodies against EPST were detected in the sera from the patients with farmer's lung or bagassosis. Lack of cross reactivity was also showed between EPST, T. vulgaris antigen, and M. faeni antigen.

Using counterimmunoelectrophoresis (CIE), serum antibodies to rabbit thymus extractable antigens were detected in 15% (38/259) of patients with chronic liver disease (CLD) of various aetiologies and 33% (41/124) of patients with miscellaneous connective tissue diseases (CTD). Partial purification of a saline extract of adult Fasciola gigantica by chromatography on Sephadex G200 gave four peaks, of which only the first two contained material which gave a precipitation reaction with sera from infected buffaloes. None of these gave false reactions with sera from uninfected animals but even the first and most sensitive fraction only reacted with 57.5 per cent of sera from animals known to be infected with moderate numbers of F gigantica.
