A latent class approach to understanding patterns of emotional and behavioral problems among early adolescents across four low- and middle-income countries.

Early adolescents (ages 10-14) living in low- and middle-income countries have heightened vulnerability to psychosocial risks, but available evidence from these settings is limited. This study used data from the Global Early Adolescent Study to characterize prototypical patterns of emotional and behavioral problems among 10,437 early adolescents (51% female) living in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Malawi, Indonesia, and China, and explore the extent to which these patterns varied by country and sex. LCA was used to identify and classify patterns of emotional and behavioral problems s

Attachment representations to parents and emotional-behavioral problems: A comparison between children with type 1 diabetes mellitus and healthy children in middle childhood.

Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1D) is one of the most demanding chronic diseases for children and their families, since controlling diabetes involves a process of co-regulation with attachment figures. However, there is insufficient evidence in middle childhood on psychological mechanisms involved that might complicate the adaptation of these children. Therefore, 106 children (N = 31 with T1D and N = 75 as matched healthy group [HG]) aged 8 to 13 were assessed using the Child Attachment Interview, the Child Behavior Checklist, and the measure of glycated hemoglobin. Results showed that insecure T1

Driver's Personality and Behavior for Boosting Automobile Security and Sensing Health Problems Through Fuzzy Signal Detection Case Study: Mexico City.

Automobile security became an essential theme over the last years, and some automakers invested much money for collision avoidance systems, but personalization of their driving systems based on the user's behavior was not explored in detail. Furthermore, efficiency gains could be had with tailored systems. In Mexico, 80% of automobile accidents are caused by human beings; the remaining 20% are related to other issues such as mechanical problems. Thus, 80% represents a significant opportunity to improve safety and explore driving efficiency gains. Moreover, when driving aggressively, it could b

Behavioral Problems, Quality of Life and Caregiver Burden in Children with Idiopathic Nephrotic Syndrome: Improving Outcomes by Pragmatic Interventions in a Resource-Poor Setting.

A cross-sectional questionnaire-based study was conducted on 38 children with idiopathic nephrotic syndrome. The prevalence and pattern of behavioral abnormalities was studied. Except in the conduct domain, the prevalence of behavioral problems was comparable with controls. Severe complications of disease and adverse drug effects were significantly associated with abnormal behavior. The Quality of life (QOL) of these children and their caregivers was assessed. It appeared to be unaffected by illness. Additional findings were high maternal literacy, no disruption of schooling, regular follow-up

Sexual sensation seeking, co-occurring sex and alcohol use, and sexual risk behavior among adolescents in treatment for substance use problems.

OBJECTIVE: This study evaluated relations between sexual sensation seeking, co-occurring sex and alcohol use, and sexual risk behaviors (eg, unprotected intercourse and multiple sex partners) among adolescents receiving treatment for substance abuse problems. METHOD: The ethnically diverse sample included 394 adolescents recruited from outpatient treatment (280 males; Mage  = 16.33 years, SDage  = 1.15). Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to test direct and indirect paths between sexual sensation seeking and sexual risk behaviors via the frequency of co-occurring sex and alcohol use.

Correlation Between Self-Efficacy and Problem-Solving Behavioral Intentions Regarding Near Misses Among Nursing Interns: The Mediating Role of Psychological Safety.

BACKGROUND: A near miss is an error or event that is detected or corrected before reaching or harming the patient. Near-miss events among nursing interns may compromise patient safety and reflect challenges in clinical practice. Self-efficacy and psychological safety are important psychological factors that may influence problem-solving behavioral intentions regarding near misses. However, evidence on the relationship between these variables among nursing interns remains limited. This study aimed to explore the relationship between self-efficacy and problem-solving behavioral intentions regard

A clinical trial of cognitive behavioral interventions for social media addiction, psychological problems, quality of family relationships and academic performance among university students.

BACKGROUND: Social media use is habitual among students, and its availability and usefulness contribute to its prevalence. Numerous benefits are associated with social networking sites. Conversely, social media use can become addictive, and excessive use can lead to various psychological problems. It influences students' overall lifestyle and education. Therefore, it is essential to manage social media use to mitigate potential harms. Interventions based on cognitive behavioural therapy can help balance social media use with other crucial aspects of life. METHODS: This RCT was conducted by th

Emotional and behavioral problems and its associated factors among pre-school children of Mekelle, Tigray, Ethiopia: community based cross sectional study.

Early childhood is a vital period for emotional, social, and behavioral development. During this stage, children may begin to show signs of emotional and behavioral problems (EBDs), yet this age group is often underrepresented in mental health research, especially in low-resource settings. Early detection and intervention are critical to prevent persistence of these problems into later life stages. This study aimed to assess the prevalence and factors associated with emotional and behavioral problems among preschool-aged children in Mekelle, Tigray, Ethiopia. A community-based cross-sectional

Co-occurring trajectory of housing stability and parenting stress with child behavior problems: A randomized trial of a housing intervention for young mothers experiencing homelessness.

This study examined the effects of an integrative housing intervention (Ecologically Based Treatment, EBT - independent housing and supportive services) on the co-occurring pattern of housing stability and parenting stress among a sample of substance-using mothers who experience homelessness and have young children in their care. The association between the co-occurring patterns of housing stability and parenting stress and child internalizing and externalizing behaviors was also examined. Mothers were randomized to one of the three conditions: EBT (n = 80), Housing-only (HOU; n = 80), or Serv

Is internet-based parent training for everyone? Predictors and moderators of outcomes in group vs. internet-based parent training for children with disruptive behavior problems.

Parent training is an effective treatment for disruptive behavior problems in children. However, as there is limited access to traditional face-to-face treatment, other delivery formats have been evaluated. This study aims to evaluate possible predictors and moderators of outcome, completion and engagement in parent training when delivered in group or through the internet. A recent randomized controlled non-inferiority trial (N = 161) demonstrated equal effectiveness of the parent training program Comet when delivered in group (gComet) and through the internet (iComet). Associations of DNA Methylation With Behavioral Problems, Gray Matter Volumes, and Negative Life Events Across Adolescence: Evidence From the Longitudinal IMAGEN Study.

BACKGROUND: Negative life events (NLEs) increase the risk for externalizing behaviors (EBs) and internalizing behaviors (IBs) in adolescence and adult psychopathology. DNA methylation associated with behavioral problems may reflect this risk and long-lasting effects of NLEs. METHODS: To identify consistent associations between blood DNA methylation and EBs or IBs across adolescence, we conducted longitudinal epigenome-wide association studies (EWASs) using data from the IMAGEN cohort, collected at ages 14 and 19 years (n = 506). Significant findings were validated in a separate subsample (n =
