In conditions of reform of primary level of medical sanitary assistance a tendency for decrease of availability of dental care for population has been revealed. Increase in number of complicated cases of typical dental diseases, inter alia, destructive affection of apical periodont. An examination of 347 patients with apical periodontitis has been held. For the purpose of improvement of differential diagnostics of radicular cysts and periapical granulomas as well as choice of adequate method of treatment postprocessing of digital dental roentgenograms has been used. 241 granulomas, 106 cysts (…

Introduction. "Dens invaginatus" is a dental anomaly which originates from the invagination of the ameloblastic epithelium into the lingual … pacted canine associated with a lateral incisor (2.2) suffering from type III dens invaginatus with radicular cyst, in a 15-year-old patient. Discussion. When treating a dens invaginatus there are different therapeutic solutions: they depend on the gravity of the anomaly and on the association with the retention of a permanent tooth. The aesthetic and functional …

A lumbar facet joint cyst is a relatively uncommon lumbar spinal disease that includes synovial and ganglion cysts associated with the adjacent facet joint. Some studies have suggested that posterior decompression surgery is linked to the development of facet joint cysts due to postoperative local instability. Although an interlaminar approach may be anatomically suitable for resecting lumbar facet joint cysts, it can be technically challenging after interlaminar decompression surgery because of epidural adhesions and scar tissue. Full-endoscopic surgery via a transforaminal approach under loc

BACKGROUND: The prevalence of oral and maxillofacial pathology has not previously been reported in the Australian paediatric population. Thi … quently encountered lesion was the dentigerous cyst (9.4%), followed by fibrous hyperplasia (8.3%), radicular cyst (5.2%) and chronic periapical granuloma (5.2%).
CONCLUSIONS: In the paediatric population, dental pathology and specifically, the dentigerous cyst is the most common pathology type sent for histopathology, suggesting a high prevalence of pathology …

p53 and PCNA expression in keratocystic odontogenic tumors compared with selected odontogenic cysts Summary: The aim of this study was to evaluate p53 and PCNA expression in different odontogenic lesions regarding their different clinical behaviors. Slices prepared from 94 paraffin-embedded tissue blocks (25 radicular cysts (RC), 23 dentigerous cysts (DC), 23 keratocystic odontogenic tumors (KCOT) and 23 calcifying cystic odontogenic tumors (CCOT)) were stained with p53 and PCNA antibodies using immunohistochemistry procedure. The highest level of p53 expression was in the basal layer of RC, a…

Giant maxillary cysts deserve one's attention, mainly because of all the complication they can originate, such as facial aesthetic changes, … aft materials. The histopathological examination of the lesion confirmed the diagnosis of maxillary radicular cyst. This case shows the frequently asimptomatic and long-term evolution of maxillary cysts, their growing volume causing massive bone destructions and affections of the neighboring anatomic structures.

Discal cysts are rare lesions that can result in refractory sciatica. Because they are so rare, their exact origin and details of the clinical manifestations are still unknown. The authors report on five men treated for discal cysts. The mean age of the patients at the time of the surgery was 32 years (range 25-38 years). All patients suffered from lower-extremity pain and the results of the straight leg-raising test were positive in all cases. Three patients reported motor weakness and four had sensory disturbance-symptoms similar to those found in patients with lumbar disc herniation. Magnet

OBJECTIVES: Residual cysts are relatively rare inflammatory cysts of the jaws. They are essentially radicular cysts without the presence of the offending dentition. These lesions have the ability to destroy bone within the jaws without any symptoms. Moreover, they can mimic more aggressive cysts and tumours on radiographs. The aim of this study was to describe the clinico-pathological features of residual cysts in order to discern them from other cystic lesions as well as analyse their management and recurrence patterns.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Sixty-four histopathologically confirmed residual…

The most frequent lesions in each group were radicular cyst (n = 268), ameloblastoma (n = 51) and salivary duct cyst (n = 21), respectively. Overall, women were more affected (n = 351, mean age: 68 years). Intraosseous lesions were more common in the mandible (n = 342), and soft tissue cysts occurred more in …

BACKGROUND: Intraneural ganglion cysts are benign gelatinous masses that form within the epineurium of a peripheral nerve. Only few cases of intraneural ganglion cyst arising from the hip joint have been reported.
CASE SUMMARY: A previously healthy 65-year-old woman who had been experiencing left buttock pain radiating to the dorsum of the foot for 2 years visited our clinic. Prior to visiting the clinic, she underwent lumbar spine magnetic resonance imaging and received physiotherapy, pain killers, and epidural injections based on a presumptive diagnosis of spinal stenosis for 2 years in oth

OBJECT: A consecutive series of 28 "operated" juxtafacet cysts is reported. We emphasize the clinical and radiological aspects leading to diagnosis. We also discuss the results of the surgical treatment.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Medical information and radiological studies involving 28 patients were analyzed. Each patient has been operated on by decompressive laminectomy and resection of the cyst. The diagnosis was always confirmed by a pathological examination. The cyst most frequently occurred at the L4-L5 level (n = 18), and seldom at the L5-S1 (n - 6) or L3-L4 (n - 4) levels.
RESULTS: The d

In this article, we describe 2 high-stake diagnostic pitfalls that occurred in a single patient having undergone partial glossectomy and marginal mandibulectomy for invasive squamous cell carcinoma. Margins were grossly uninvolved. Histopathology showed a moderately differentiated squamous cell carcinoma. Microscopic evaluation of margins was challenging, as the inferior osseous margin submitted en face showed spongiotic epithelium with mixed chronic and acute inflammation, representing a periapical cyst after correlation with the gross examination. Another section of the osseous margin showed

Bony defects in the jaws after surgery may show poor healing especially in the maxilla and the area may never completely be replaced by bone. 50 patients with pathological bony cavities in the jaws were used to assess the efficacy of a collagen matrix implanted into the treated bony defect and 50 patients in whom no material was implanted were used as controls. The results were assessed radiographically at 3, 6 and 12 months. At 3 months, bone deposition in the control group was in advance of the implanted group, but after 6 and 12 months healing appeared to be similar in both groups. No adver
