Perspective on plasma membrane cholesterol efflux and spermatozoal function.

The process of sperm maturation, capacitation, and fertilization occur in different molecular milieu provided by epididymis and female reproductive tract including oviduct. The different tissue environment with different oxygen tension and temperature may still influence the process of sperm maturation and capacitation. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) is reported to be an initial switch that may activate the molecular process of capacitation. Therefore, the generation of reactive oxygen species and its possible physiological role depends upon a balance between its formation and degradation in an

Chronic Ectopic Pregnancy: A Case Report.

Chronic ectopic pregnancy (CEP) is an under-recognised variant of ectopic pregnancy, characterised by low or absent serum beta human chorionic gonadotropin (β-hCG), a complex adnexal mass, and non-specific clinical symptoms and signs. We present a case of a woman in her 30s with progressive lower abdominal pain, an equivocal pregnancy test, and spontaneous vaginal bleeding. Transvaginal ultrasound demonstrated an inhomogeneous, avascular right adnexal mass on ultrasound, with associated haemoperitoneum. A diagnostic laparoscopy revealed a haemorrhagic ampullary mass and 300 mL of intraperitone

Case Report: Successful natural conception and delivery in a primary cancer survivor involving the reproductive, respiratory, and endocrine systems auth.

BACKGROUND: Natural conception in patients with multiple primary neoplasms (MPNs) is exceedingly rare, particularly those involving metachronous triple cancers of the reproductive, respiratory, and endocrine systems. This article reports the case of a young female patient who suffered from three primary neoplasms successively covering the three major systems of the ovary, lung, and thyroid, and achieved successful natural conception and delivery through comprehensive management by a multi-disciplinary team (MDT). This case provides a valuable reference for the diagnosis and treatment of simila

Shifting participatory approach when ideology meets reality: a grounded theory study based on project leaders' experiences with peer-led sex education programs for and by persons with intellectual disabilities and/or autism.

BACKGROUND: This study explored peer-led sex education for individuals with intellectual disabilities and/or autism (ID/ASD) from the perspective of project leaders within Swedish non-governmental organizations (NGOs). The purpose of this Grounded Theory study was to develop a conceptual model that characterizes the ways in which peer-led sex education is implemented by Swedish NGOs. This was done by exploring what the concept of peer-led sex education means to NGO project leaders, and how they experience, explain and reason about the application of peer education in their daily operations. Peer-education strategies for enhancing sexual health services among female sex workers: a scoping review.

INTRODUCTION: Female sex workers (FSWs) remain highly vulnerable to HIV, other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and broader sexual and reproductive health challenges. Peer-led interventions are widely recommended, yet their specific contributions and implementation gaps are poorly synthesised. This scoping review mapped peer-education strategies used globally to promote sexual health among FSWs, with emphasis on intervention components, outcomes, and evidence gaps, including the role of peers. METHODS: This scoping review followed the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) manual and Arksey and

Breaking the taboo: qualitative analysis of the sexuality in people with acquired motor disability.

BACKGROUND: Globally 1 in 7 people experience some type of disability. In Latin America, as in other regions, there are programs focused on the protection of sexual and reproductive rights of this population group. However, to date, in Peru there are no programs, protocols or guidelines that include a specialist (sexologist or trained health professional) in the health system to improve the quality of life and well-being of this population. Therefore, the objective of this article is to qualitatively analyze the experience of sexuality in people with acquired motor disabilities. METHODS: We u…

Spatial distribution and determinant factors of intimate partner violence among reproductive age group women in Ethiopia: Using generalized structural equation modeling.

INTRODUCTION: Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) is the most serious and pervasive yet under-recognized human rights violation in the world, particularly in Ethiopia. Hence, the objective of this study was to find the spatial distribution of IPV and its determinant factors in Ethiopia. METHODS: Secondary data analysis was conducted among 2,687 reproductive age group women (15-49 years). The distribution of IPV across the country was observed by ArcGIS software. In SaTScan software, the Bernoulli model was fitted by Kulldorff methods to identify the purely spatial clusters of IPV. Besides, Genera

"Too Grey To Be True?" Sexual Violence in Older Adults: A Critical Interpretive Synthesis of Evidence.

Sexual violence (SV) is an important public health issue with a major impact on victims and their peers, offspring and community. However, SV in older adults is under-researched. This paper aims to establish the prevalence and nature of SV in older adults in Europe, link this with existing policies and health care workers' response to sexual health needs in older age, and critically revise the currently used frameworks in public health research. To fill this gap in the literature, we applied a Critical Interpretative Synthesis (CIS) approach. The CIS approach uses techniques from grounded theo

Molting layers--alternative methods and their effectiveness.

The molting of commercial layers has been under increased scrutiny by animal rights groups, who have said that this practice is highly stressful and one which negatively affects the welfare of the hen due to the initial period of fasting that has been used to stop egg production. In recent years, there has been a recognized need to develop practical alternatives to molting layers other than the use of fasting. Thus, the University of Illinois, University of Nebraska, North Carolina State University, and the University of California have all researched this area. In all of these studies, the me

Selenium + Vitamin E Supplementation in Anestrus Goats: A Strategy to Enhance Reproductive Outcomes Under a Semi-Arid Production System.

Goats are primarily raised in marginal, arid, and semi-arid production systems and exhibit a seasonal reproductive pattern. Extending their reproductive season would enhance food security and improve the economic viability of goat production. Therefore, the objective of this study was to assess the effects of SeVE supplementation during the anestrus season on ovarian activity in anestrous goats subjected to an estrus synchronization protocol. The response variables included estrus induction (EI), ovulatory rate (OR), corpus luteum diameter (CLD), left and right ovary diameters (LOD and ROD), e

The RIO protein kinase-encoding gene Sj-riok-2 is involved in key reproductive processes in Schistosoma japonicum.

BACKGROUND: Schistosomiasis is one of the most prevalent parasitic diseases worldwide and is caused by parasitic trematodes of the genus Schistosoma. The pathogenesis of schistosomiasis is caused by eggs whose production is the consequence of the pairing of schistosomes and the subsequent sexual maturation of the female. Previous studies have demonstrated that protein kinases are involved in processes leading to the male-induced differentiation of the female gonads, ovary and vitellarium. Right open reading frame protein kinase 2 (RIOK-2) is a member of the atypical kinase family and shown in
