BACKGROUND We report a case of a giant (55×35×27 cm, 26 kg) retroperitoneal liposarcoma (RPLS) to provide surgical insights for managing such complex tumors. Due to the potential space in the retroperitoneal cavity, primary retroperitoneal liposarcoma can grow to very large sizes without causing typical symptoms, frequently encasing critical vessels and organs and making resection highly challenging. During a combined acupuncture-neural therapy-treatment on account of a gastric ulcer several lesions with vast haemorrhages in the abdominal cavity and in the retroperitoneal space on the right (lesions of the kidney) were produced. At the operation a duodenal ulcer without perforation was found. The competence of the neural therapy in its relation to the complications is discussed, the indication to the application of these forms of therapy in such cases is refused.

OBJECTIVE: The presence of teratoma in the primary orchiectomy specimen creates controversies for subsequent management. Although predominant teratoma is less likely to metastasize, teratoma in the retroperitoneum may be less amenable to chemotherapy. BACKGROUND: Abdominal and retroperitoneal Castleman's disease could present either as a localized disease or as a systemic disease. Castleman's disease is a lymphoid hyperplasia related to human Herpes virus type 8, which could have an aggressive behavior, similar to that of malignant lymphoid neoplasm mainly with the systemic type, or a benign one in its localized form.

The authors present the case report of a Marfan syndrome patient with aneurysm of ascending, dissecting aneurysm of descending and abdominal aorta. Ascending aorta replacement with aortic valve sparing procedure was performed at first surgery. Later on descending and abdominal aorta were replaced. The patient was reoperated because of a chylus collection in retroperitoneal space. Three months following surgery the patient is completely recovered.

A case of papillary renal cell carcinoma associated with retroperitoneal fibrosis is described. This type of fibrosis has not been previously reported to be associated with renal cell carcinoma. The case is of additional interest in that it implicates an immune phenomenon in the pathogenesis of the fibrosis, involving both putative tumor antigens and antigens associated with tumor growth but unrelated to tumor cells.
