BACKGROUND: Basal meningiomas represent a significant group of intracranial tumours. Their surgical treatment presents still today several difficulties since these tumours, as it is well known, may involve critical neurovascular structures.
METHODS: This is a retrospective study of 139 consecutive cases of basal meningioma operated on in our institution during the last two decades. Meningiomas location: olfactory groove 20 cases; suprasellar region 22; anterior cranial fossa 6; sphenoid wing 37; cerebellopontine angle/clivus 21; tentorium 26. In most cases the meningioma was larger than 5 cm.

Since 1994, 15 cleft patients have received dental implants after treatment of the alveolar clefts by osteoplastic measures. Altogether 23 dental implants were undertaken. Twelve implants were inserted after tertiary osteoplasty, 7 with simultaneous repeat-osteoplasty, and another 4 implants following two-stage re-osteoplasty. In 11 patients with a total of 17 implants clinical and radiological follow-ups were performed. An individual crown was constructed on each of the implants. Bone-grafts were evaluated in 45 patients with uni- or bilateral residual alveolar clefts. In this population there were 31 unilateral clefts and 14 bilateral clefts. BACKGROUND: Psoralen plus ultraviolet A (PUVA) is considered to be the treatment of choice for subtotal vitiligo; however, it is time consuming and carries certain health risks for both patients and physicians. This study attempts to evaluate the efficacy of the treatment in Turkish vitiligo patients.
METHODS: We have performed a retrospective study of 33 patients with vitiligo who received systemic PUVA therapy during the period 1985 to 1997, and have evaluated their response to treatment.

PURPOSE: This study was designed to assess the sequelae and prognosis of intruded primary incisors.
METHODS: Of 196 children who visited the emergency clinic due to intrusion of 310 maxillary primary incisors, 110 children (172 teeth) were available for follow-up examination (study group). Eighty-six children (138 teeth) did not show for the follow-up examination (non-respondents group). Male/female ratio was 1.7:1. Age range of children at time of injury was 12-72 months (mean 28). Follow-up time ranged between 0 and 59 months (mean 27).

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate perioperative bleeding during laparoscopic hysterectomy.
DESIGN: Retrospective clinical study.
SETTING: Department Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Baby Friendly Hospital Kladno, Kladno, Czech Republic.
METHODS: Clinical data and cases of perioperative complications and bleeding of patients after laparoscopic hysterectomy were summarized and assessed. The primary hemostatic treatment was electrosurgery. Patients were assessed to efficacy, safety, utility and applicability of vasoconstrictive and local hemostyptic agents.

The clinicopathological features of cervical fractures in 56 dogs were reviewed. "Hit by car" (HBC) was the most common inciting cause, and the axis and atlas were the vertebrae most frequently affected. Surgical treatment was associated with high (36%) perioperative mortality. This study was conducted to describe the rates and patterns of parachuting injuries at the Parachuting Israeli Training Center to those at other training centers. Data on 43,542 military jumps were collected from accident reports and flight manifests. Popliteal cysts in children are usually asymptomatic and are usually found fortuitously by the parents. This study presents a series of 62 children with popliteal cysts. Cut throat injuries and associated deaths are common in our society. Majority succumb to their injuries. In this study, the hospital records of twenty six such cases (13 M & 13 F) were reviewed. Eleven victims were in their third decade. Eighteen cases came from poor socio-economic class. Eleven had suicidal, eleven homicidal and four accidental injuries. One hundred Danes with oral cancer who were collected consecutively from 1986 to 1991 were evaluated retrospectively. The study included subjective and objective observations in 56% men and in 44% women. M:F ratio was 1.2:1. Fifty percent of the patients were non-smokers. Nine percent were women who did not drink alcohol.
