A novel technique and product for carpal tunnel microscopic surgical procedures using a modified medical device containing a head as a surgical scalpel under light guidance were designed and studied. The novel design of the medical device was developed and applied in a new carpal tunnel microscopic surgical procedure in place of the traditional carpal tunnel surgical procedure. Biological and clinical evaluations of carpal tunnel surgical procedure using the designed optically guided medical device were studied. PURPOSE: To investigate the characteristics of forward light scatter changes after small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) and to compare these changes with those after femtosecond laser-assisted LASIK (femto-LASIK) and epipolis LASIK (epi-LASIK).
METHODS: A total of 303 eyes (SMILE group = 118 eyes, femto-LASIK group = 90 eyes, epi-LASIK group = 95) of 157 patients were included in this study. A collagen membrane with microscopic order is presented. The membranes were produced with acid-soluble collagen, using two different methods to obtain orientation. The product was characterized by mean of UV and IR spectra, scanning electronic microscopy, optical microscopy and laser diffractometry. The results clearly show a high level of order in the membranes obtained by both techniques. Permeability for rifamycin, ascorbic acid and NaCl was also measured. Due to the characteristics of the membranes, they have a potential application for treatment of surface injuries.
