The Association of Fatalistic Determinism With Problematic Smartphone Use in Nurses: A Cross-Sectional Study Assessing the Mediating Roles of Self-Control and Grit.

BACKGROUND: Problematic smartphone use (PSU) poses a significant risk to nurses' well-being and may have potential implications for patient safety. Although fatalistic determinism may contribute to addictive behaviors, its relation to PSU and the underlying psychological mechanisms remain unclear. This study examined the association between fatalistic determinism and PSU among nurses and the potential mediating roles of self-control and grit. METHODS: This quantitative, cross-sectional study collected data from nurses in several hospitals in Sichuan Province, China, between July and August 20

Validation, Content Validity, and Reliability of the Spanish SE-OAM Questionnaire: Assessing Nursing Self-Efficacy in Oral Anticoagulant Therapy Management.

Background/Objectives: Oral anticoagulant therapy (OAT) has been prescribed for over seventy years to prevent thromboembolic complications associated with various conditions. The emergence of direct-acting oral anticoagulants (DOACs) has reduced the use of vitamin K antagonists (VKAs), but specific clinical scenarios still necessitate VKAs. Nurses play a crucial role in managing OAT, and their self-efficacy is essential for optimal patient outcomes. This study aims to validate and adapt the Nursing Self-Efficacy for Oral Anticoagulant Therapy Management (SE-OAM) questionnaire to Spanish (SE-OA

Assessing sample adequacy and clinical performance of self-collected and clinician-collected HPV specimens using internal control Ct values.

BACKGROUND: Human papillomavirus (HPV) testing is the primary method for cervical cancer screening, but reliable detection depends on adequate sample cellularity. Cycle threshold (Ct) values for the assay's internal control (IC), such as β-globin, are commonly used as proxies for adequacy, yet standardized Ct cut-offs are lacking. We aimed to contribute evidence-based thresholds for sample adequacy using real-world data. METHODS: We analyzed 237,853 clinician-collected and self-collected samples tested with the BD Onclarity™ HPV Assay between 2022 and 2024. β-globin Ct values were assessed by

Exploring the potential of the sit-to-stand test for self-assessment of physical condition in advanced knee osteoarthritis patients using computer vision.

INTRODUCTION: Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a prevalent condition often associated with a decline in patients' physical function. Objective self-assessment of physical conditions poses challenges for many advanced KOA patients. To address this, we explored the potential of a computer vision method to facilitate home-based physical function self-assessments. METHODS: We developed and validated a simple at-home artificial intelligence approach to recognize joint stiffness levels and physical function in individuals with advanced KOA. One hundred and four knee osteoarthritis (KOA) patients were e…

Assessing exposure to outdoor advertisement for products high in fat, salt and sugar (HFSS); is self-reported exposure a useful exposure metric?

BACKGROUND: Exposure to advertising of unhealthy commodities such as fast-food and gambling is recognised as a risk factor for developing non-communicable diseases. Assessment of the impact of such advertisement and the evaluation of the impact of any policies to restrict such advertisements on public health are reliant on the quality of the exposure assessment. A straightforward method for assessing exposure is to ask people whether they noticed any such advertisements in their neighbourhoods. However, the validity of this method is unclear. We assessed the associations between measured expos

A comparison of retrospective self-report versus ecological momentary assessment measures of affective lability in the examination of its relationship with bulimic symptomatology.

Affective lability has been linked to several maladaptive behaviors (Anestis et al., 2009; Coccaro, 1991). Methodology for measuring affective lability varies and includes retrospective self-report and ecological momentary assessment (EMA). In this study, we sought to test these methodologies by examining which better predicted binge eating episodes and general eating disorder symptoms in a sample (n = 131) of women diagnosed with bulimia nervosa (BN). We hypothesized that, while the two forms of measurement would be correlated with one another and predict binge eating episodes, EMA affective
