BACKGROUND: Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has the advantage of low toxicity of natural ingredients, multiple targets and effects, and low medication costs. It has unique advantages for metabolic and chronic diseases. Huangqin-Huanglian decoction (HQHLD) is composed of Scutellariae Radix, Coptidis Rhizoma, Rehmanniae Radix, and Gentianae Radix Et Rhozima; it has great potential for the treatment of NAFLD with the modern pharmacological research and TCM theory, but there is still a relative lack of research on the potential targets and pharmacological effects of HQHLD.
METHODS: In this wor

Leishmaniasis is a vector-borne infection caused by protozoan parasites from the genus leishmania and is among the most neglected tropical diseases. It is highly prevalent disease, affecting about 350 million population worldwide. Only limited number of anti-leishmanial agents are approved for clinical use till now and they are associated with side effects and have limited efficacy. Subsequently, natural products based discovery of more safe and effective drugs against leishmania is under scientific consideration. Various studies reported the efficacy of natural products against intracellular

Prosopis africana (G. &Perr.) Taub (Mimosaceae) is a large tree native to dry tropical Africa and characteristic of dry leguminous forests. Different parts of this plant are used to treat wounds, skin infection, and to fight against cancer. Literature review indicated various pharmacological properties. Despite these medicinal properties, the chemical composition studies remain limited. This study aims to isolate and characterize secondary metabolites from P. africana leaves and evaluate their antibacterial and antioxidant properties. Air-dried powdered leaves of P. africana were macerated in

Candida albicans is a widespread disease-causing yeast affecting humankind, which leads to urinary tract, cutaneous and various lethal systemic infections. As this infection rate steadily increases, it is becoming a significant public health problem. Recently, Caesalpinia bonduc has received much attention from researchers due to its diverse pharmacological properties, including antimicrobial effects. Accordingly, we first planned to explore the in-vitro anticandidal potential of three extracts obtained from C. bonduc seeds against four Candida species. Initially, the anticandidal activity of

OBJECTIVE: There are many challenges related to the treatment of coronary atherosclerotic heart disease (CAD). Studies have confirmed that Epimedium extract inhibits myocardial injury induced by myocardial ischaemia, but the mechanism of action remains unclear. This study aimed at analysed the effective components and mechanisms of Epimedium in treating CAD based on network pharmacology and molecular docking studies and to verify the mechanism in vitro.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The TCMSP and UniProt databases were used to filter for the active components and drug targets of Epimedium. The GeneC

Given the high mortality rate associated with tumors and the severe side effects of current treatments, scientists are exploring alternative therapies with fewer adverse effects. They are increasingly turning to natural remedies, much like our ancestors who used plant extracts to treat various ailments long before understanding the underlying mechanisms. Even though they did not know exactly why these plants treated those diseases then, we have the privilege of testing these plants and discovering the active ingredients responsible for these effects. This study aims to investigate the anticanc

Snakebite envenomation remains a significant neglected tropical disease, particularly in South Asia, where Daboia russelii (Russell's viper) causes substantial morbidity and mortality. Current antivenom therapy is limited by poor efficacy against local tissue damage, high production costs, restricted toxin specificity, and adverse immune reactions, highlighting the need for alternative or adjunct therapeutic strategies. Using an integrated computational and experimental approach, phytocompounds identified from Glycosmis pentaphylla leaf extracts were evaluated as potential inhibitors of major

INTRODUCTION: Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma (ESCC) is a highly aggressive malignancy with limited therapeutic options and poor prognosis, particularly in advanced stages. Dingxiang Guan Shitong Decoction (DGD) is a traditional Chinese medicine preparation that can alleviate symptoms in patients with advanced ESCC. However, the chemical composition, pharmacological effects, and molecular mechanisms of action of DGD remain unclear.
METHODS: This study evaluated the efficacy of DGD in advanced ESCC by conducting a clinical trial. Ultra-Performance Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (UP

BACKGROUND: To investigate the effects and mechanism of action of the main component, Stigmasterol (STG), of Liuwei Dihuang Pill (LP) on postmenopausal osteoporosis (PMOP) in ovariectomized (OVX) rats. METHODS: Cell viability was assessed using the cell counting kit 8 (CCK-8) assay. Osteoblast differentiation was evaluated through alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity assay, ALP staining, and Alizarin Red S staining. Expression levels were assessed by real-time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR), Western blot, and immunohistochemistry. Immunofluorescence was used to observe protein colocalization. Prote

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Shiwei Hezi Pill (SHP) is a classical Tibetan polyherbal remedy traditionally used to treat nephritis and urinary tract disorders. It is known in Tibetan medicine for its effects in clearing "renal heat" and promoting diuresis. Despite its long-standing clinical application, the pharmacological mechanisms underlying SHP's potential protective effects against cisplatin-induced acute kidney injury (cis-AKI) remain poorly understood.
AIM OF THE STUDY: This study aimed to elucidate the protective mechanisms of SHP in cisplatin-induced AKI, focusing on inflammation

BACKGROUND: Cotinus coggygria has a long history of use in traditional medicine in Europe and Asia. The aim of study was to explore the cytotoxicity of extracts (EE-ethanol, MME-methylene chloride/methanol, and WE-water) and compounds (butin, butein, fisetin, sulfuretin, taxifolin, eriodictyol, fustin, cotinignan A, sulfuretin auronol, 3-O-methylepifustin, 3-O-methylfustin, and sitosterol-3-O-β-D-glucoside) isolated from C. coggygria. Mechanisms of anticancer effects of three extracts, butin, butein, and sulfuretin were examined.
METHODS: Compounds were isolated from the EE using silica gel c

BACKGROUND: Radiation Dermatitis (RD) is the most common side effect of radiotherapy, severely affecting the implementation of the antitumor treatment plan. The traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) compound Danxiong Granules (TDX105) is an external formulation used clinically for over a decade with notable efficacy, though its pharmacological mechanisms remain unclear, This study delves into the intricate mechanism by which TDX105 confers protection against RD by modulating the inflammation-related pathway, employing a combination of network pharmacology and experimental validation.

BACKGROUND: Central precocious puberty (CPP) is due to the early activation of the hypothalamus-pituitary-gonadal axis, and its incidence is on the rise. A number of studies have shown that nourishing yin and purging fire (NYPF) therapy can be beneficial for CPP. Therefore, we conducted this review to investigate the efficacy, safety, and mechanism of NYPF therapy for CPP.

BACKGROUND: In response to the persistent problem of malaria resistance, medicinal herbal plants can be used as a source of potential novel antimalarial agents. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the in vivo antimalarial activity and toxicity of an ethanolic seed extract of Spondias pinnata (L.f.) Kurz (S. pinnata).
METHODS: Qualitative phytochemical screening of the extract was performed using standard procedures, and the constituents were determined by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The in vivo antimalarial activity was assessed against the Plasmodium berghei AN
