Nanobiotechnological modules as molecular target tracker for the treatment and prevention of malaria: options and opportunity.

Malaria is one of the major infectious diseases that remains a constant challenge to human being mainly due to the emergence of drug-resistant strains of parasite and also the availability of drugs, which are non-specific for their pharmacodynamic activity and known to be associated with multiple side effects. The disease has acquired endemic proportions in tropical countries where the hygienic conditions are not satisfactory while the environmental conditions favor the proliferation of parasite and its transmission, particularly through the female anopheles. It is obvious that to square up th

FABRICATION AND EVALUATION OF SMART NANOCRYSTALS OF ARTEMISININ FOR ANTIMALARIAL AND ANTIBACTERIAL EFFICACY.

BACKGROUND: Nanocrystals have the potential to substantially increase dissolution rate, solubility with subsequent enhanced bioavailability via the oral route of a range of poor water soluble drugs. Regardless of other issues, scale up of the batch size is the main issue associated with bottom up approach. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Smart nanocrystals of artemisinin (ARM) was produced relatively at large batch sizes (100, 200, 300 and 400ml) compared to our previously reported study by (Shah, et al., 2016). ARM nanosuspensions/nanocrystals were characterised using zeta sizer, SEM, TEM, DSC, PXRD a

Regenerative Engineering and Bionic Limbs.

Amputations of the upper extremity are severely debilitating, current treatments support very basic limb movement, and patients undergo extensive physiotherapy and psychological counselling. There is no prosthesis that allows the amputees near-normal function. With increasing number of amputees due to injuries sustained in accidents, natural calamities and international conflicts, there is a growing requirement for novel strategies and new discoveries. Advances have been made in technological, material and in prosthesis integration where researchers are now exploring artificial prosthesis that

In vivo monitoring of bone architecture and remodeling after implant insertion: The different responses of cortical and trabecular bone.

The mechanical integrity of the bone-implant system is maintained by the process of bone remodeling. Specifically, the interplay between bone resorption and bone formation is of paramount importance to fully understand the net changes in bone structure occurring in the peri-implant bone, which are eventually responsible for the mechanical stability of the bone-implant system. Using time-lapsed in vivo micro-computed tomography combined with new composite material implants, we were able to characterize the spatio-temporal changes of bone architecture and bone remodeling following implantation i

Low-magnitude high-frequency mechanical signals accelerate and augment endochondral bone repair: preliminary evidence of efficacy.

UNLABELLED: Fracture healing can be enhanced by load bearing, but the specific components of the mechanical environment which can augment or accelerate the process remain unknown. The ability of low-magnitude, high-frequency mechanical signals, anabolic in bone tissue, are evaluated here for their ability to influence fracture healing. The potential for short duration (17 min), extremely low-magnitude (25 microm), high-frequency (30 Hz) interfragmentary displacements to enhance fracture healing was evaluated in a mid-diaphyseal, 3-mm osteotomy of the sheep tibia. In a pilot study of proof of c

Skin physiology and textiles - consideration of basic interactions.

The skin exerts a number of essential protective functions ensuring homeostasis of the whole body. In the present review barrier function of the skin, thermoregulation, antimicrobial defence and the skin-associated immune system are discussed. Barrier function is provided by the dynamic stratum corneum structure composed of lipids and corneocytes. The stratum corneum is a conditio sine qua non for terrestrial life. Impairment of barrier function can be due to injury and inflammatory skin diseases. Textiles, in particular clothing, interact with skin functions in a dynamic pattern. Mechanical p

Engineering hydrogel-coated surfaces with improved stimulus response for biomedical applications.

Poly(N-Isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAm)-based hydrogels are well known for their thermoresponsive properties, which make them attractive for applications in smart surfaces, drug delivery, and responsive coatings for biomedical applications. However, conventional PNIPAAm hydrogels coated on surfaces often exhibit restricted thermal response due to their surface attachment, reducing their practical utility. In this study, we developed a hydrogel coating with enhanced thermoresponsive behavior, using PNIPAAm/Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) electrospun NR (NR) containing Cellulose Nanocrystals (CNC

Integration of freshness monitoring and active packaging technologies for aquatic products.

Aquatic products are nutritionally valuable but highly perishable, with quality loss driven by microbial spoilage, biochemical changes, including total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB-N), trimethylamine (TMA) and histamine, and physicochemical deterioration, including lipid oxidation, gas production and texture loss. Conventional packaging slows these processes but does not report real-time freshness. This review analyzes how active packaging (antimicrobial, antioxidant, enzyme-inhibiting, and oxygen-scavenging systems, including bio- and nanocomposites) can be combined with freshness monitoring

Near infrared-emitting multimodal nanosystem for in vitro magnetic hyperthermia of hepatocellular carcinoma and dual imaging of in vivo liver fibrosis.

Prolonged usage of traditional nanomaterials in the biological field has posed several short- and long-term toxicity issues. Over the past few years, smart nanomaterials (SNs) with controlled physical, chemical, and biological features have been synthesized in an effort to allay these challenges. The current study seeks to develop theranostic SNs based on iron oxide to enable simultaneous magnetic hyperthermia and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), for chronic liver damage like liver fibrosis which is a major risk factor for hepatocellular carcinoma. To accomplish this, superparamagnetic iron o

MoS2-loaded cholesteric liquid crystal microcapsules for NIR responsive thermochromism.

Thermochromic materials with temperature-dependent color changes and color memory are widely used in functional coatings, anti-counterfeiting, and smart architectures. Cholesteric liquid crystal (CLC) molecules undergo periodic helical twisting of their orientation, forming a unique helical superstructure with fluidity and long-range orientational order. When confined in microscale spherical droplets with interfacial anchoring, CLC assemblies exhibit dynamic optical response due to thermoresponsive molecular rearrangement. The helical defects within physical confinement and the interfacial mol

Low-Cost Spray-Patterned Triboelectric Textiles for Wearable Interaction and Energy Harvesting.

Smart textile interfaces hold promise for battery-free wearable interaction, yet their adoption is limited by complex fabrication and insufficient on-body evaluation. We present TriboTex, a low-cost spray-patterning workflow that forms nylon-Cu-nylon triboelectric stacks on cotton textiles using laser-cut PET stencils and commercially available materials. The core consumables cost approximately USD 0.003/cm2, and sensor geometry can be rapidly iterated by modifying only the digital stencil. Controlled characterization across nine devices from three fabrication batches showed a peak open-circui
