The reaction of (COD)PdCl 2 (COD = 1,5-cyclooctadiene) with bis(3-pyridyl)methylphenylsilane (L) in acetone affords single crystals consisting of cyclodimers, [PdCl 2(L)] 2, whereas the reaction in a mixture of dichloromethane and ethanol yields amorphous spheres consisting of cyclotrimers, [PdCl 2(L)] 3. The interconversion and morphology control between the crystals and the microspheres can be explained by the difference in flexibility between the cyclodimer and cyclotrimer.

A straightforward solvent wetting method was used to prepare felodipine solid dispersions in the presence of various carriers. Dichloromethane is not needed when HPMC solid dispersions were produced using the solvent wetting method. The amount of ethanol used to prepare solid dispersions did not have a significant effect on the dissolution rate of felodipine. (1)H NMR and (13)C NMR of methyl-2,4-dimethoxysalicylate 2 was measured in chloroform-d at the temperature range of 220-330 K, in dimethyl sulfoxide-d(6) at the temperature range of 300-400 K and in a polar protic solvent (CD(3)OD) at 300 K. The structure of 2 in liquid phase (solvent) is compared with those in solid phase (X-ray) and in the gas phase (quantum mechanical calculations). The relationship between molecular geometry, (1)H NMR chemical shift and W coupling of involved protons has a complex nature, but hydrogen bonds [C=O...H-O and C=O...H-CH(2)O] strength is the principle factor.

We describe 2 cases of diffuse fasciitis with eosinophilia (DFE) associated with prolonged exposure to the industrial solvent trichloroethylene (TCE). The medical and personal histories, examinations, and laboratory and pathological investigations were reviewed and summarized. The 2 case reports, representing the first and 2nd cases of DFE associated with TCE, were compared with 8 reported cases of systemic sclerosis associated with TCE and suggest a direct association between TCE exposure and the development of fasciitis (DFE).
