Predicting Individual Response to Acupuncture in Sensorineural Tinnitus Using Integrated Functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy and Machine Learning: Protocol for a Model Development and Validation Study.

BACKGROUND: Research indicates that around 20% of adults experience chronic tinnitus, with about a fifth of these cases being severe. Although various treatments are available for tinnitus, their effectiveness is often limited, and each treatment has clinical constraints. While acupuncture has shown promise in treating tinnitus, individual responses vary significantly. Identifying methods to predict acupuncture's effectiveness on Sensorineural tinnitus (SNT) patients in advance remains a critical clinical challenge. PURPOSE: This study aims to develop and validate a machine learning model bas

Blood pressure control with phenylephrine or dobutamine: a randomized controlled trial comparing effects on cerebral and paravertebral tissue oxygen saturation measured with near-infrared spectroscopy.

Preserving haemodynamics is expected to positively affect tissue oxygen saturation. We hypothesized that maintaining mean arterial blood pressure (MAP) (using phenylephrine (PE) or dobutamine (Dobu)) would equally affect regional cerebral and paravertebral tissue saturation (rScO2 and rSpvO2, respectively). Thirty-four patients were randomly assigned to receive either PE or Dobu, in order to keep MAP within 20% of the preoperative value. Their effect on haemodynamics, rScO2 and rSpvO2 at thoracic level T3-T4, T9-T10 and lumbar level L1-L2 was calculated at different doses. Drug-induced haemody

Prefrontal cortex alterations in major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder and their comorbidity during a verbal fluency task assessed by multi-channel near-infrared spectroscopy.

Major depressive disorder (MDD) and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) are frequently comorbid with each other, and both associated with substantial cognitive impairments; however, it is still unclear whether their impairments are neurobiologically similar or distinct. This study aims to investigate the cognitive functions of the prefrontal cortex (PFC) in patients with MDD and GAD during the verbal fluency task (VFT) using functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS). Fifty-two patients with MDD, fifty-one patients with GAD, fifty-two patients with the comorbidity of MDD and GAD (CMG), and f

Associations of 26 Circulating Inflammatory and Renal Biomarkers with Near-Infrared Spectroscopy and Long-term Cardiovascular Outcome in Patients Undergoing Coronary Angiography (ATHEROREMO-NIRS Substudy).

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: The purpose of this study was to investigate the association of 26 inflammatory biomarkers (acute phase proteins, cytokines, chemokines) and renal markers with coronary lipid core burden index (LCBI) assessed by near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) imaging, as well as the association of these biomarkers with long-term cardiovascular outcome. RECENT FINDINGS: NIRS-derived LCBI has recently been shown to be an independent predictor of major adverse cardiac events (MACE). However, studies on the association between circulating biomarkers and NIRS-derived characteristics have not

Left colic artery-preserving D3 lymphadenectomy using near-infrared spectroscopy was effective for double advanced cancers of the transverse colon and rectum: A case report.

INTRODUCTION: Exact assessment of intestinal viability is necessary, since the risk of anastomotic complications increases due to the reduction in anastomotic blood supply. Near-infrared spectroscopy is useful in assessing blood flow because it allows real-time monitoring and quantifying of tissue oxygen saturation. Herein, we report a case in which two intestinal resections were performed safely by using near-infrared spectroscopy to evaluate the blood flow at the anastomotic sites. PRESENTATION OF CASE: A 67-year-old man was diagnosed with multiple cancers of the transverse colon and rectum

Significance of ultrasound combined with near-infrared spectroscopy in monitoring transfusion-associated intestinal injury in extremely preterm infants: a study protocol for a prospective, observational study.

BACKGROUND: Most preterm infants with a gestational age < 32 weeks in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) undergo blood transfusion therapy during their hospital stay to enhance their oxygen-carrying capacity and improve the oxygenation of vital organs. However, anemia and blood transfusions can lead to intestinal damage. Bedside abdominal ultrasonography and near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) are widely applied to monitor intestinal injury and oxygen perfusion. We hypothesized that in preterm infants (gestational age < 32 weeks) with anemia and indications for transfusion, signs of intesti

The effect of transcranial direct current stimulation on psychotic symptoms of schizophrenia is associated with oxy-hemoglobin concentrations in the brain as measured by near-infrared spectroscopy: A pilot study.

Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) has been shown to be effective in treating some of the symptoms of schizophrenia. In the current study, we sought to determine whether oxy-hemoglobin ([oxy-Hb]), measured by near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS), is associated with effects of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) on psychotic symptoms of schizophrenia. Twenty-six patients underwent tDCS (2 mA × 20 min) two times per day for five consecutive days. The anodal electrode was placed over the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex while the cathodal electrode was placed over the right

The Role of Continuous Monitoring of Venous Drainage Flow and Integrated Oxygen Extraction (ERiO2) via Bilateral Near-Infrared Spectroscopy in Cerebral Perfusion During Aortic Arch Surgery.

Background and Objective: Effective cerebral perfusion monitoring is essential in aortic arch surgery, particularly when employing the Kazui technique under moderate hypothermia. Near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) provides real-time regional oxygen saturation (rSO2) measurements, while the continuous monitoring of venous drainage flow and oxygen extraction ratio (ERiO2) delivers additional insights into cerebral oxygenation and metabolic balance. This study investigates the correlation between NIRS-derived rSO2, venous drainage flow, and ERiO2 during selective antegrade cerebral perfusion (SACP
