[Biofeedback treatment of Raynaud's disease].

Raynaud's disease is characterized by intermittent peripheral vasoconstriction leading to pallor, cyanosis and reactive vasodilation of the arterioles of fingers and toes. These phenomena are accompanied by sensations of cold or warmth, pain and difficulty in manipulating the palms. Ulcerations of the fingertips can occur in severe cases. Since conservative medical treatment, consisting of preventive measures and changing various habits, results in alleviation in only half the patients, sympathectomy is often required. Psychological intervention, including biofeedback, also has a significant r…

[Galactorrhoea and thoracic surgery (author's transl)].

The authors report 4 cases where galactorrhoea complicated thoracotomy. It was only possible to find 21 cases altogether in the literature w … hat have been reported because there was a Raynaud's syndrome which was the indication for thoracic sympathectomy.

Urodynamic findings and clinical status following vesical denervation procedures for control of incontinence.

We compared the results of intrathecal chemical rhizotomy performed in 3 patients, complete sacral rhizotomy in 3 and dorsal root ganglionectomy in 3. Dorsal root ganglionectomy (S2 to S4) obviated reflex bladder contractility and autonomic dysreflexia, and did not induce detrusor hypertonia. Chemical rhizotomy failed to abolish reflex activity or autonomic dysreflexia and was unsatisfactory. Complete intradural sacral rhizotomy obviated reflex activity and autonomic dysreflexia but induced detrusor hypertonicity and incontinence.

The role of cardiac sympathetic denervation for ventricular arrhythmias: an updated systematic review and meta-analysis.

INTRODUCTION: The role of the sympathetic nervous system in the initiation and continuation of ventricular tachyarrhythmias (VTA) is well established. However, whether CSD reduces implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) shocks and recurrent VTA is still uncertain. METHODS: A comprehensive literature search was performed at Medline and Embase until March 2023. The primary outcome was the rate of ICD shocks and VTA per patient-year in our pooled analysis of all included articles. Analyses were conducted using Comprehensive Meta-Analysis software. RESULTS: Initial search yielded 1324 scien

Cardioneuroablation in patients with vasovagal syncope: An updated systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Cardioneuroablation (CNA) is a novel procedure that shows promising results in reducing syncope recurrence in patients with refractory vasovagal syncope (VVS). However, its effectiveness and safety remain controversial. OBJECTIVE: We performed an updated meta-analysis evaluating CNA efficacy and safety in patients with refractory VVS. METHODS: PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane databases were systematically searched for CNA studies in patients with refractory VVS. Our primary efficacy end point was syncope recurrence, and our safety end point was periprocedural complications. Prespecif

Axillary hyperhidrosis: A review of the extent of the problem and treatment modalities.

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this review is to summarize the extent of the problem of axillary hyperhidrosis and treatment modalities available. The benefits and disadvantages of various treatments are reflected on with the hope of providing a starting point to investigate new ways of treating hyperhidrosis. MATERIAL & METHODS: A literature search was conducted using various databases and search criteria. RESULTS: Current treatments include aluminium chloride antiperspirants, iontophoresis, botox injections and endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy. Botox therapy is usually the most effective trea…

Unexpected improvement of hyperhidrosis with cannabidiol.

Hyperhidrosis is characterized by excessive sweating and it affects almost 5% of the population. The affected age group is wide, and it can affect from children to elderlies. There are two types of hyperhidrosis: generalized and focal. Treatment depends on the symptoms presented. In more severe cases, radiofrequency sympatholysis and bilateral thoracic sympathectomy are the options. However, recurrence is possible or the postoperative appearance of conditions called compensatory hyperhidrosis or reflex hyperhidrosis. We describe two cases of patients treated with Cannabidiol who had significan…

Raynaud's Secondary to Granulomatosis With Polyangiitis.

Raynaud's phenomenon (RP) is an episodic digital vasospastic condition that is prevalent among 5% of the population. The symptoms range from … in receptor antagonists, and prostacyclin analogs are proven to be effective in cases of severe RP. Sympathectomy and amputation are considered as the extreme options in patients with refractory symptoms.

[Diagnosis of sympathetically maintained pain in posttraumatic complex regional pain syndrome with laser Doppler flowmetry].

Forty-nine patients with posttraumatic complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) of the upper extremities were investigated by laser Doppler flowmetry (LDF) with wavelet-analysis of skin blood flow oscillations. Clinical evaluation of sympathetically maintained pain was carried out after the thoracoscopic clipping above and below the Тh3 ganglion of sympathetic chain) in 33 patients and after the perivascular sympathectomy at the level of brachial artery and veins) in 16 patients. The objective diagnosis of sympathetically maintained pain was created with LDF; it was directed specially to discover…

Topical botulinum toxin to treat hyperhidrosis? No sweat!

Palmar, plantar and axillary hyperhidrosis, though benign, may be burdensome and occupationally restrictive, even hazardous. Treatment modalities range from topical antiperspirants, iontophoresis, systemic medications such as anticholinergics and benzodiazepines and injections of botulinum toxin, to thoracic sympathectomy. Intradermal injections of botulinum toxin (BTX), though effective, are painful especially when multiple injections are required. Iontophoretic administration of BTX has been described, the BTX entering the eccrine sweat glands via the sweat pores and through the sweat ducts.…
