The effect of stannous chloride on bone metabolism was examined in weanling male rats given oral dose of 1.0 mg Sn/kg at 12-h intervals for 28 d. The efficiency of labelling red blood cells with intravenously administered 99mTcO4, by prior oral administration of stannous chloride dihydrate, has been evaluated. Optimum labelling occurred 1 hr after the oral dose of 200 mg of SnCl2.2 H2O and 20 min after the intravenous injection of 99mTcO4. The mechanism of labelling has been shown to be diffusion of 99Tc through the cell membrane followed by binding to haemoglobin in the presence of reducing agent. The in-vivo labelling technique has been found to be useful for the diagnosis of an abdominal mass and for static perfusion studies.

Three sets of thoraco-omphalopagous conjoined twins were investigated. The clinical findings indicated a complex shared heart in two sets, and separate cardiovascular systems in the other. To determine whether Ca2+ participates in the augmentative action of SnCl2 on the transmitter release, we have investigated interactions between SnCl2 and Cd2+, verapamil, or low Ca2+ on endplate potentials (e.p.p.) and have compared the effect of SnCl2 with that of Mg2+ on miniature endplate potentials (m.e.p.p.). Liver scanning with radiocolloids is an important method to determine the presence, the position and the size of space-occupying lesions in the liver.
