An abnormally large tonsil may be a sign of malignancy. We retrospectively analyzed the case files of 87 patients who had asymmetrically sized but otherwise normal tonsils and no risk factors for cancer to determine if asymmetry is associated with a higher incidence of malignancy. We found 2 cases (2.3%) of malignancy among these patients. One patient had high-grade non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in the larger tonsil, and the other had lymphocyte-rich Hodgkin's lymphoma. To report one patient with an ectopic salivary tissue tag on the tonsil, and review the embryology, management, and implications of this benign disorder. Case report with literature review. Ectopic salivary tissue presented on the tonsil of a child as a painless, growing, unilateral pale exophytic mass. Tonsillectomy was performed to provide diagnosis, and was curative. Ectopic salivary tissue of the tonsil is a rare finding. Tonsillectomy allows for definitive diagnosis and treatment.

Oral tonsils (ectopic oral tonsillar tissue) are rarely remarked upon. They may cause diagnostic confusion, especially when found in the floor of the mouth. We report here two cases of patients presenting because of oral tonsillar tissue, to remind colleagues of its occurrence and the need to consider the lesion in the differential diagnosis of soft tissue nodules of the oral cavity.

Tonsil remnants are a problematic outcome in a subset of patients undergoing tonsillectomy. Treatment options are rarely discussed in the literature. This is the first description of the use of argon plasma coagulation (APC) in this setting. APC is based on the principle of ionised argon gas creating a conductive plasma between an activating electrode and a tissue surface. We describe the usability and clinical efficacy of this modality in a group of six patients.
