We report a case of carcinosarcoma in the transverse colon in a 60-year-old woman. She was admitted to our hospital for further examination of occult blood in October, 1995. Colonoscopy disclosed an elevated lesion with ulceration in the transverse colon, and she underwent right hemicolectomy. A 14-year-old Trakehner gelding was evaluated for recurrent colic, with episodes occurring over 1 year. Signs were consistent with intermittent ascending colon obstruction and hematochezia. Necropsy examination revealed an ulcerated mass extending into the lumen of the right dorsal ascending colon. Gross and histologic appearance and immunoreactivity to c-kit (CD117), desmin, vimentin, and smooth muscle actin, were consistent with a diagnosis of gastrointestinal stromal tumor.

Distribution of I, III, IV and V-type collagen, fibronectin, vimentin, filamin, and desmin in myocardial biopsy specimens of 8 patients with alcoholic cardiomyopathy was studied by indirect immunofluorescence. It is found that all types of collagen and fibronectin participate in formation of diffuse cardiosclerosis while small cardiosclerosis is formed by interstitial types of collagen and to a lower extent of fibronectin. Filamin and desmin distribution in cardiomyocytes proves deformation and destruction of Z-lines and intercalated discs.

This short report describes a case of tricuspid valvular metastasis of canine disseminated histiocytic sarcoma in a 9-year-old female Rottweiler. Immunohistochemically the malignant neoplastic cells gave a strong reaction for vimentin and lysozyme, and showed negativity for serotonin, CD3, CD79a and cytokeratin. The intratumoural microvessels were detected by immunohistochemistry using CD31 and claudin-5. This appears to be the first report of a valvular metastasis of canine malignant histiocytosis.

The authors present a rare case of Langerhans cell histiocytosis in a 31 year old female patient with vulvar, peri-anal and oral lesions, diabetes insipidus, pulmonary skin and bone infiltrations. Skin biopsy immunohistochemistry presented positive S100 protein and vimentin, but the diagnosis was done with the demonstration of Birbeck granules with electronic microscopy. The treatment was based on systematical chemotherapy although vulvar lesion has a bad response to chemotherapy.
