Giant ureteric calculi are extremely rare in children. We present a case of a child who was originally admitted for observation following non-accidental injury and had an episode of painless haematuria as an inpatient. Ultrasonography demonstrated left hydronephrosis and a 2cm echogenic area in the proximal ureter. A plain abdominal radiograph surprisingly revealed two left ureteric calculi, one 7cm and the other 4cm in length. Stone extraction was achieved using an open left ureterolithotomy and pyelolithotomy.

Forty cases of external ear trauma have been studied during a period of three years from Jan '2001 to December 2004. It was observed that accidental trauma to the auricle may result in laceration, partial or complete loss of auricle. Injury of the tympanic membrane, temporal bone or facio maxillary region may be associated with auricular trauma. All wounds of auricle carry a risk of infection leading to perichondritis. Principles of successful treatment are conservation of tissue and prevention of infection.

This report describes a case of inadvertent subclavian artery catheterization that was successfully managed with the ExoSeal vascular closure device. Pulmonary sequestration is a congenital abnormality of a non-functional pulmonary mass with anomalous systemic arterial supply. Surgical resection is the gold standard treatment, but it carries a risk of life-threatening haemorrhage from accidental injury of the anomalous artery. Endovascular embolisation has been introduced as a safe alternative, but does not eliminate the possibility of symptom recurrence. We report a case of a 61-year old woman with intralobar pulmonary sequestration treated with a combination of endovascular coil embolisation and surgical resection.

Carotid body tumors originate from paraganglionic tissue in the bifurcation of the common carotid artery. Magnetic resonance imaging is a frequently used diagnostic method in the preoperative diagnosis of these tumors and provides appropriate information for surgical planning. In this study, the authors emphasize magnetic resonance imaging and magnetic resonance angiography findings of the external carotid artery aneurysm associated with carotid body tumor. This highlights that the diagnosis of carotid artery aneurysms is essential to avoid accidental injury to the vessel during tumor surgery.
