AIM: To compare the mean central corneal thickness (CCT) among aphakic and pseudophakic patients following congenital cataract surgery with age matched controls.
METHODS: This study included 43 eyes of 43 aphakic and pseudophakic patients following congenital cataract surgery. 44 healthy, age and sex matched volunteers were recruited for comparison with the patients. After a complete eye examination, corneal thickness and intraocular pressure were measured.

PURPOSE: In the cases of aphakia or cataract which complicated with iridosteresis, corectasis and pupil displacement, corepraxia was performed when implanting intraocular lens (IOL) in order to recover the normal shape and position of pupil, improve postoperative visual acuity and prevent monodiplopia and glare.
METHODS: In the cases which have iridosteresis at the direction of 9-3 oclock or updrawn pupil, iris suture was performed at the incision directly(open method); while those at the direction of 3-9 o'clock, operation was performed outside the anterior chamber (close method).

PURPOSE: To evaluate the role of vitrectomy in patients with persistent, visually disabling vitreous opacities.

Corneal topographic characteristics of 5 patients who obtained unsatisfactory vision after aphakic epikeratophakia, with at least nine months follow-up, were reported. All grafts were apparently decentered relative to visual axis. The contour of cornea showed highly irregular pattern of power distribution. These findings suggest that to mark visual axis before surgery, lathe corneal lenses carefully and do standard operation should be the basis of successful epikeratophakia.

Are presented the results obtained by artificial lens pupillary implant (Fedorov) at 22 eyes, 18 patients between 48-81 years old, to which the development of cataracta was characterized by a great difference between the eyes. It have been obtained 63% very good visual acuity (5/10 and over) and 31% good (5/15-5/40). The authors Conclusion is the artificial lens implant may be done on diabetic patients if FO doesn't have great modifications.

We reviewed 19 cases of delayed-onset pseudophakic endophthalmitis in which diagnostic cultures were performed at one month or more after cataract extraction with posterior chamber intraocular lens implantation. We isolated four different organisms in these 19 cases: 12 Propionibacterium species (63%), three Candida parapsilosis (16%), three Staphylococcus epidermidis (16%), and one Corynebacterium species (5%). Evaluation of the eye fundus after an extracapsular cataract extraction with posterior chamber lens implantation was performed in 50 patients 1 month after surgery and in 50 another patients 2 years after surgery. In the earlier period a very good inspection was possible in 88 p.c. of cases, 2 years after cataract extraction in 78 p.c. The usefulness of bilateral ophthalmoscopy was emphasized.

We studied the contralateral eye of ten consecutive patients in whom corneal decompensation had occurred following cataract extraction to detect the beginnings of any corneal disease in that eye. Patients with a previous history of surgery, trauma, or ocular disease were excluded. In my previous prospective study of 132 eyes, the incidence of clinically significant cystoid macular edema was 42% in aphakic penetrating keratoplasty, 33% in combined keratoplasty and cataract extraction with vitrectomy, and only 4% in combined keratoplasty and cataract extraction without vitrectomy. During a two-year period a randomly selected age-stratified sample of subjects 65 years old and older living in Gisborne, New Zealand, was examined by an ophthalmologist to investigate visual acuity and the prevalence of the major disorders of vision in old age. Scleral buckling was performed on 116 eyes with rhegmatogenous retinal detachments that spared macular function preoperatively. The retina was reattached in 97% of these eyes after one operation. The remaining cases were repaired successfully by a second procedure. Eight percent of the 90 eyes with preoperative vision of 20/30 or better experienced some visual loss postoperatively despite successful retinal reattachment. In 4% of these 90 eyes, the final vision was less than 20/40. Macular pucker was the most common cause of postoperative reduction in vision.
