Evaluation of the relationship between vitamin levels and symptom severity in adults with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder.

This cross-sectional study aimed to compare serum vitamin B12, 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25-OHD), ferritin, and iron levels between adults diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and healthy controls, and to evaluate the relationship between these biochemical markers and the severity of ADHD symptoms. In this cross-sectional study, a total of 35 adults with ADHD and 36 age- and sex-matched healthy controls who presented to a psychiatry outpatient clinic in Sakarya in 2024 were included. Participants' demographic data and clinical characteristics were collected through intervi

Use of "R&R" for Medical Students and Physicians with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder: A Conceptual Framework.

Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is an increasingly recognized yet under-addressed challenge within the medical profession, affecting medical students and physicians (including residents and faculty). While current literature emphasizes high rates of depression, anxiety, and burnout in these groups, ADHD - despite its persistence into adulthood and its impact on academic, clinical, and interpersonal functioning - receives comparatively less attention. Reported ADHD prevalence among medical students, residents, and practicing physicians varies widely and may be underestimated due

Interpreting Scores from Adolescents with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder on Sway Medical System Balance and Cognitive Modules.

PURPOSE: Many high schools in the United States conduct preseason "baseline" cognitive and balance testing as part of their concussion management procedures. Prior research has identified differences in cognitive and balance test scores between youth with and without attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The present study examined whether preseason baseline scores on the Sway Medical System Balance and Cognitive Modules differed between adolescent athletes with self-reported ADHD and those without ADHD. METHOD: The Sway Medical System is a smartphone or tablet-based assessment that

[Graph convolution-based brain network analysis of visual mismatch negativity in adults with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder].

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a common neurodevelopmental disorder. Adults with ADHD continue to exhibit deficits in attention and executive function, whereas the neural mechanisms underlying visual mismatch negativity (vMMN)-related processing remain unclear. This study investigated the functional brain connectivity characteristics of adults with ADHD by combining standardized low-resolution brain electromagnetic tomography (sLORETA), phase-locking value (PLV) analysis, and a graph convolutional network (GCN) based on a visual Oddball paradigm that elicited vMMN responses

Unpacking medication choices: Key factors influencing treatment decisions in children with newly diagnosed attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

BACKGROUND: Following a diagnosis of Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) many children require immediate use of pharmacological agents for symptom control, while for some children a trial of non-pharmacological management may be warranted initially. AIM: To study and identify the clinical and socio-economic factors associated with immediate use of pharmacotherapy versus non pharmacological management in children with newly diagnosed ADHD. METHODS: A retrospective cross sectional study design using chart review was conducted in child and adolescent psychiatry services of a tertiar

Brain Myelin in Children With Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder: A Longitudinal T1-Weighted/T2-Weighted Ratio Study.

BACKGROUND: Research has demonstrated a broad network of dysfunction across the brain in attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), suggesting the potential role of white matter (WM) organization. In this study, we sought to estimate the developmental trajectories of brain WM myelination in children with ADHD. METHODS: Neuroimaging and clinical data were collected as part of a longitudinal community-based pediatric cohort (Nscans = 400; 195 with ADHD; age range = 9-14 years). Brain WM myelin was examined for 71 WM tracts across 3 time points using the T1-weighted (T1w)/T2-weighted (T2w)

Machine learning-enabled detection of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder with multimodal physiological data: a case-control study.

BACKGROUND: Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a multifaceted neurodevelopmental psychiatric condition that typically emerges during childhood but often persists into adulthood, significantly impacting individuals' functioning, relationships, productivity, and overall quality of life. However, the current diagnostic process exhibits limitations that can significantly affect its overall effectiveness. Notably, its face-to-face and time-consuming nature, coupled with the reliance on subjective recall of historical information and clinician subjectivity, stand out as key challenge

Automatic sensory change processing in adults with attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder: a visual mismatch negativity study.

In addition to higher-order executive functions, underlying sensory processing ability is also thought to play an important role in Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (AD/HD). An event-related potential feature, the mismatch negativity, reflects the ability of automatic sensory change processing and may be correlated with AD/HD symptoms and executive functions. This study aims to investigate the characteristics of visual mismatch negativity (vMMN) in adults with AD/HD. Twenty eight adults with AD/HD and 31 healthy controls were included in this study. These two groups were matched in age

DNA methylation is associated with prenatal exposure to sulfur dioxide and childhood attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder symptoms.

Epigenetic influence plays a role in the association between exposure to air pollution and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD); however, research regarding sulfur dioxide (SO2) is scarce. Herein, we investigate the associations between prenatal SO2 exposure and ADHD rating scale (ARS) at ages 4, 6 and 8 years repeatedly in a mother-child cohort (n = 329). Whole blood samples were obtained at ages 2 and 6 years, and genome-wide DNA methylation (DNAm) was analyzed for 51 children using the Illumina Infinium HumanMethylation BeadChip. We analyzed the associations between prenatal SO2

Properties of white matter tract diffusivity in children with developmental dyslexia and comorbid attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder.

BACKGROUND: Developmental dyslexia (DD) and attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are highly comorbid neurodevelopmental disorders. Individuals with DD or ADHD have both been shown to have deficits in white matter tracts associated with reading and attentional control networks. However, white matter diffusivity in individuals comorbid with both DD and ADHD (DD + ADHD) has not been specifically explored. METHODS: Participants were 3rd and 4th graders (age range = 7 to 11 years; SD = 0.69) from three diagnostic groups ((DD (n = 40), DD + ADHD (n = 22), and typical developing (TD) (n =

Decision-making and Risky Behavior in Individuals with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder: A 10-year Longitudinal Study.

We assessed 85 children with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and 50 typically developing children (TD) (Mage = 11.59, 57.8% boys) with the Hungry Donkey Task (HDT) at baseline and 2-year follow-up, and the Iowa Gambling Task at 10-year follow-up (75% retention). Improvement in the proportion of advantageous choices was observed from two- to 10-year follow-up, but the ADHD group improved less and was outperformed by the TD group at the 10-year follow-up. More advantageous choices on the HDT at baseline predicted less risky behavior at 10-year follow-up. Male sex and more inatten

Cognitive and Neuroimaging Profiles of Older Adults With Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder Presenting to a Memory Clinic.

OBJECTIVE: Some features of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) may resemble those of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) in older adults, contributing to diagnostic uncertainty in individuals seeking assessment in memory clinics. We systematically compared cognition and brain structure in ADHD and MCI to clarify the extent of overlap and identify potential features unique to each. METHOD: Older adults from a Cognitive Neurology clinic (40 ADHD, 29 MCI, 37 controls) underwent neuropsychological assessment. A subsample (n = 80) underwent structural neuroimaging. RESULTS: Memory was im

Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder in people with intellectual disability: statistical approach to developing a bespoke screening tool.

BACKGROUND: Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is common among people with intellectual disability. Diagnosing ADHD in this clinically and cognitively complex and diverse group is difficult, given the overlapping psychiatric and behavioural presentations. Underdiagnoses and misdiagnoses leading to irrational polypharmacy and worse health and social outcomes are common. Diagnostic interviews exist, but are cumbersome and not in regular clinical use. AIMS: We aimed to develop a screening tool to help identify people with intellectual disability and ADHD. METHOD: A prospective cros

Functional abnormality in the sensorimotor system attributed to NRXN1 variants in boys with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

Impaired sensorimotor circuits have been suggested in Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). NRXN1, highly expressed in cortex and cerebellum, was one of the candidate risk genes for ADHD, while its effects on sensorimotor circuits are unclear. In this content, we aimed to investigate the differential brain effects as functions of the cumulative genetic effects of NRXN1 variants in ADHD and healthy controls (HCs), identifying a potential pathway mapping from NRXN1, sensorimotor circuits, to ADHD. Magnetic resonance imaging, blood samples and clinical assessments were acquired from 53

Future preferences and prospection of future of outcomes: Independent yet specific associations with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder.

INTRODUCTION: Symptoms of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and conduct problems have been associated with heightened temporal discounting of reward value resulting in a preference for immediate over delayed outcomes. We examined the cross-sectional relationship between future preference (including intertemporal choice) and prospection (the ability to bring to mind and imagine the experience of future personally-relevant events and outcomes) in adolescents with a range of ADHD symptoms and aggressive behaviour. METHODS: A combination of behavioural tasks and self-reports measure
