Hydrogen peroxide (HP) poisoning is rare but potentially life-threatening. It can cause tissue damage through oxygen emboli and reactive oxygen species (ROS). This is the first reported case of blindness caused by cerebral infarctions involving the visual pathway due to oxygen emboli from HP ingestion. The Washington Group Short Set (WGSS) questions are intended to measure the severity of disability and disability status in US federal surveys. We used data from the 2010-2018 National Health Interview Survey to examine the performance of the WGSS visual disability and hearing disability questions in capturing blindness and deafness. Rhodopsin is the photosensitive protein, which binds to 11-cis-retinal as its chromophore. In the dark, rhodopsin exists as a stable complex between the opsin moiety and 11-cis-retinal.
