Forecasting generalized epileptic seizures from the EEG signal by wavelet analysis and dynamic unsupervised fuzzy clustering.

Dynamic state recognition and event-prediction are fundamental tasks in biomedical signal processing. We present a new, electroencephalogram (EEG)-based, brain-state identification method which could form the basis for forecasting a generalized epileptic seizure. The method relies on the existence in the EEG of a preseizure state, with extractable unique features, a priori undefined. We exposed 25 rats to hyperbaric oxygen until the appearance of a generalized EEG seizure. EEG segments from the preexposure, early exposure, and the period up to and including the seizure were processed by the fa

Stroke-heart syndrome and early mortality in patients with acute ischaemic stroke using hierarchical cluster analysis: An individual patient data pooled analysis from the VISTA database.

BACKGROUND: The patient clinical phenotypes at particularly high risk for early cardiac complications after a recent acute ischaemic stroke (AIS), that is, stroke-heart syndrome (SHS), remain poorly defined. We utilised hierarchical cluster analysis to identify specific phenotypic profiles associated with this risk. METHODS: We gathered data on patients with AIS from the Virtual International Stroke Trials Archive, a global repository of clinical trial data. We examined cardiac complications within 30 days post-stroke, including acute coronary syndrome, heart failure, arrhythmias and cardiore…

A novel cluster-based multinomial logit modeling for crash severity analysis in collisions involving automated ev-only manufacturer (AEVOM) vehicles.

The increasing presence of Automated Electric Vehicles-Only Manufacturer (AEVOM) vehicles underscores the need for better understanding of crash severity under partial automation. Utilizing police-reported crash data from Texas between 2017 and 2024, this study applies a two-stage analytical framework to capture heterogeneity in crash outcomes. Variable selection and clustering validity are supported by Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) feature importance metrics and Cramér's V statistic. Cluster Correspondence Analysis (CCA) is used to classify crashes into four distinct typologies: high-sp

Multimodal Single-Cell Network Analysis Identifies Basigin/Cluster of Differentiation 147 as a Tumor-Associated Signaling Hub in Hepatocellular Carcinoma.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) ranks among the leading causes of cancer mortality globally, driven by late diagnosis and inadequate sensitivity of biomarkers like α-fetoprotein for early or indeterminate lesions. Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) enables precise mapping of tumor heterogeneity and early malignant transitions. This study aims to apply scRNA-seq analysis to detect clinically important molecular patterns that define the early stages of malignant transformation in HCC and facilitate the diagnosis of small or ambiguous lesions. METHODS: Here, we integrated

Polygenic risk score and cluster-based analysis suggests links between type 2 diabetes and vascular dementia in the KARE study.

Type 2 diabetes is an established risk factor for dementia. However, how its genetic heterogeneity affects different dementia subtypes remains unclear. In this study, we investigate the associations between genetic risk of type 2 diabetes and dementia subtypes among 33,136 older Chinese adults from the KARE cohort. We find that a higher overall polygenic risk score for type 2 diabetes is significantly associated with an increased risk of vascular dementia, but not Alzheimer's disease. Further analyses using cluster-specific partitioned polygenic score show that elevated genetic risk specific t

Supporting alcohol brief interventions and pharmacotherapy provision in Australian First Nations primary care: exploratory analysis of a cluster randomised trial.

INTRODUCTION: Primary care provides an important opportunity to detect unhealthy alcohol use and offer assistance but many barriers to this exist. In an Australian context, Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (ACCHS) are community-led and run health services, which provide holistic primary care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. A recent cluster randomised trial conducted with ACCHS provided a service support model which showed a small but significant difference in provision of 'any treatment' for unhealthy alcohol use. However, it was not clear which treatment modal
