Acute intestinal intussusception is one of the commonest causes of abdominal emergency in infants. It strikes mainly infants 3 to 30 months old. Ileo-colic intussusception is the commonest form (75-95%), whereas ileo-ileo-colic, colono-colic and ileo-ileal intussusceptions are rather uncommon. Colic mucosa was used as a graft for urethral construction in 9 Sprague-Dawley rats. A urethrectomy was performed in each rat and then a urethroplasty built with the colic mucosa taken from a segmental colectomy. After 6 weeks to 3 months, all of these rats developed a typical urothelium. The digestive mucosa has been transformed into urothelium or acts as a stent to guide regrowth from each end. These results are encouraging, but the use of the appendix mucosa for hypospadias repair and for urethroplasty deserves further study.

As 92 emergency operations of the colon have been carried out, a record is given of their indications, the most prevailing being, in Africa, intussusceptions and volvulus of the pelvic colon. Out of 64 exercises and colic derivations, 42 ideal colectomies are used as a ground for the analysis of the requirements and limits of this emergency operation. As out of the 7 fistulas they have observed, 6 of them have been outcomes of exeresis of necrosed colic segments, the authors in accordance with the newest bibliographic data, emphasize the importance of mastering the anastomosis technique.

Results of 21 injections of the transverse colon with coloured latex. The superior and inferior mesenteric arteries are separately injected. Dissections allowed the study of the topography and width of the colic transverse vessels. Collateral circulation is also described. A middle colic artery is present in 85% of the cases. The length of transverse colon vascularized by each arterial system is related with accuracy to the number of arcades issued from each system. The superior mesenteric artery prevails in the blood supply of the transverse colon (70% of its length).

We have recorded the blood supply to a high or subsplenic sigmoid loop from branches of the left colic and first sigmoid arteries. An accessory middle colic present in this case crossed the region immediately superior to the apex of the sigmoid loop. In this instance it arose from the dorsal pancreatic which also gave origin to inferior pancreaticoduodenal branches. Since the high sigmoid may be retroperitoneal, as in the case described, it would not be readily apparent; it would require lateral views to separate it from the descending colon radiographically.
