[Skin Metastasis to the Buttocks of MSI-High Sigmoid Colon Cancer-A Case Report].

Skin metastasis of colorectal cancer is a rare condition. Herein, we report a case of skin metastasis of MSI-high sigmoid colon cancer to the buttocks. A 41-year-old male who was referred to our hospital for anemia, elevated inflammatory response, weight loss, and hematochezia during his general health examination. Computed tomography(CT)revealed a thickening of the sigmoid colon wall, fistula formation between other parts of the sigmoid colon, and enlarged mesenteric lymph nodes. The patient was suspected of having skin metastasis due to a mass being found in the upper abdominal subcutaneous

Endometrial Cancer Metastatic to the Sigmoid Colon and Pelvic Retroperitoneal Space: A Case Report.

BACKGROUND/AIM: The majority of colorectal tumors are primary colorectal cancers (CRCs), which commonly develop distant metastases in advanced stages. In contrast, secondary involvement of the colon by tumors originating from other organs is rare. Endometrial cancer (EC) typically metastasizes to the vagina, lungs, and peritoneum, with colonic metastasis being exceedingly uncommon. CASE REPORT: A 76-year-old female patient presented with abdominal pain. Her medical history was notable for multiple malignancies, including Stage I left breast cancer, Stage IA endometrial cancer, and Stage IIA r

Unexpected right-sided sigmoid colon in laparoscopy: A case report and review of literature.

BACKGROUND: The presence of a right-sided sigmoid colon is a rare anatomical variation usually discovered incidentally during surgical interventions. This case report details an unexpected right-sided sigmoid colon identified during a laparoscopic appendectomy and examines the pertinent literature to explore its clinical importance. CASE SUMMARY: A 71-year-old woman presented with acute appendicitis. A preoperative computed tomography (CT) scan showed peri-appendiceal inflammation but no significant anatomical abnormalities. During laparoscopic surgery, an unexpected finding was encountered:

Isolated Sigmoid Colon Perforation in the Setting of Blunt Abdominal Trauma: A Case Series.

Isolated colon injuries following blunt abdominal trauma have been reported with an incidence of 0.1-0.5 %, with sigmoid colon involvement being a rare entity. The sigmoid colon is reportedly involved only in 34.8% of isolated colonic injuries. The most common cause of colonic injuries is motor vehicle accidents. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography has a role in blunt trauma-induced bowel injury evaluation, with 82% accuracy and 64% sensitivity, but its role in the diagnostic evaluation of colonic injuries is controversial. Surgical treatment comprises primary closure, resection with or with

[A Case of Sigmoid Colon Cancer with Bladder Fistula Treated by Laparoscopic Radical Resection].

The patient was a woman in her 70 s. Computed tomography(CT)showed a sigmoid colon tumor invading the uterus and ovaries, and a fistula to the bladder. The patient was scheduled to receive neoadjuvant chemotherapy(NAC), but while waiting for treatment, generalized peritonitis due to perforation of the tumor was observed, and a laparoscopic transverse colostomy was performed. After NAC with CAPOX and FOLFIRI plus panitumumab, the tumor was found to have shrunk, and a laparoscopic posterior pelvic exenteration was performed. The bladder including the fistula was partially resected, and the tumor

Laparoscopic repair of bilateral inguinal hernias each containing sigmoid colon in a premature infant.

Inguinal hernias are rare in the general population but are more frequently seen in premature infants. Risk factors include male gender, small for gestational age, low birth weight and respiratory distress. Infant inguinal hernias most frequently contain small bowel. Other contents can include the appendix and cecum, and rarely, the sigmoid colon. Sigmoid colon as content of inguinal hernia in children has only been reported twice in literature, and in both cases it was unilateral. We present the first reported case of bilateral inguinal hernias containing the sigmoid colon in a premature boy,

Stercoral Perforation of Sigmoid Colon in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: A Rare Cause of Peritonitis.

Stercoral perforation (SP) is a rare cause of peritonitis. It is caused by pressure necrosis of the colonic wall by fecaloma. SP is a lethal condition that is associated with high morbidity and mortality, therefore early diagnosis and treatment are of paramount importance. Herein, we describe a case of SP in a systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patient. A 44-year-old female, known case of SLE, presented with severe abdominal pain, fever, and hypotension. CT scan showed features of perforated sigmoid. The patient underwent exploratory laparotomy which revealed perforation of sigmoid, fecalomas

Hybrid transvaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery of radical sigmoidectomy for sigmoid colon cancer.

BACKGROUND: Transvaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (NOTES) is a surgical technique - "scarless" abdominal operations performed with a multi-channel endoscope passed through a natural orifice (mouth, urethra, anus, vagina etc.) and offers less invasive and more excellent cosmetic results [1]. It is regarded as safe and feasible in patients with benign disease [2,3]. The first case of pure NOTES for sigmoid colon cancer was reported in 2012 [4]. We describe here a case of curatively intended resection for early-stage sigmoid colon cancer using the hybrid transvaginal NOTES

Sigmoid colon carcinoma with focal neuroendocrine differentiation associated with ulcerative colitis: A case report.

INTRODUCTION: Neuroendocrine tumors of the colon and rectum are relatively rare compared to sporadic colorectal carcinoma. There are few reports of neuroendocrine tumors of the colon and rectum in patients with ulcerative colitis. PRESENTATION OF CASE: A patient with sigmoid colon carcinoma with focal neuroendocrine features is presented. A 32-year-old man, who had been followed for ulcerative colitis for 14 years, was found to have carcinoma of the sigmoid colon on routine annual colonoscopy, and he underwent laparoscopic total colectomy. Pathologic examination showed sigmoid colon adenocarc

[Long-Term Survival of a Patient with Sigmoid Colon Cancer with Multiple Visceral Metastases].

A 66-year-old woman underwent total pelvic exenteration for a pelvic tumor. The pathological diagnosis was sigmoid colon cancer T4b(in the small intestine, uterus, and vagina), N0, M0, Stage II . The patient was treated with XELOX for 6 months as adjuvant chemotherapy and was then treated with IRIS for another 6 months. Brain metastasis developed in the left occipital lobe after 12 months, and she underwent craniotomy and enucleation of the tumor. Liver metastasis and peritoneal dissemination metastasis developed 16 months after her initial diagnosis. The patient underwent re-craniotomy and ra

[A Case of Long-Term Survival after Nine Surgeries for Recurrent Sigmoid Colon Cancer].

A 67-year-old man was operated for sigmoid colon cancer. Histopathological examination revealed pT3 (SS), N0, M0, Stage Ⅱ cancer. In March 2005, abdominal computed tomography (CT) showed recurrences in the abdominal wall and associated localized dissemination. The patient underwent chemotherapy using TS-1 and CPT-11; however, the disease progressed. Therefore, surgery was performed to resect the recurrences. A re-recurrence developed during the adjuvant chemotherapy. The patient was operated 9 times for recurrences, which were macroscopically resectable, in addition to chemotherapy and radiati

Lower Extremity Radicular Pain Caused by Entrapped Sigmoid Colon Between L5 and S1 Vertebrae.

Intestinal entrapment between two vertebral bodies is very rare. In all previous cases, it occurred by major trauma. However, the bowel entrapment between two vertebral bodies without trauma has never been reported, not to mention as the cause of lower extremity radicular pain. We describe the case of an 82-year-old female patient with right lower extremity radicular pain without recent trauma history. The patient was diagnosed sigmoid colon entrapment between the L5 and S1 vertebrae by lumbar spinal computerized tomography and magnetic resonance imaging, and showed improvement in radicular pa

Endoscopic haemostasis by polypectomy: a case of sigmoid colon tubular adenoma with arterial haemorrhage.

An 84-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital with a massive lower intestinal bleeding (LIB). The enhanced CT showed extravasation of blood in the sigmoid colon during the arterial phase. After discussion with the interventional radiologists, we proceeded to perform emergency colonoscopy that demonstrated massive gushing of blood from a pedunculated sigmoid colon polyp. The polyp was removed by snare polypectomy, which resulted in complete haemostasis. The pathological finding of the resected lesion was a tubular adenoma.

[A case of curatively resected sigmoid colon cancer after mFOLFOX6 plus panitumumab neoadjuvant chemotherapy].

A 54-year-old man with residual urine, abdominal pain, and a high fever was diagnosed with KRAS wild-type sigmoid colon cancer with urinary bladder invasion. Considering the difficulty of curative resection, we first performed an ileostomy. Remarkable tumor regression was indicated by computed tomography(CT)and colonoscopy after 3 courses of mFOLFOX6 plus panitumumab. A sigmoidectomy and partial cystectomy were performed with a curative intent. Six courses of XELOX adjuvant chemotherapy were administered, and no recurrence has been observed for 9 months. mFOLFOX6 plus panitumumab might be an e

Migration of ingested sewing needle from within sigmoid colon to outside of the lumen.

Foreign body ingestion is a frequently observed condition in children. However, migration of an ingested foreign body from the gastrointestinal tract toward any abdominal organ is extremely rare. We report herein a case of a 2-year-old female patient in whom an ingested sewing needle was palpable by rectal examination and was determined to have migrated from within the sigmoid colon to outside of the lumen. The needle was surgically removed. In cases of foreign body ingestion, both physical examination and radiological follow-up should be performed.
