A case of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment with high myopia is presented in a 17 year old boy with the typical characteristics of the Rubinstein-Taybi syndrome. Although multiple eye anomalies are known to occur in this syndrome, the occurrence of retinal detachment has not been reported up to now. The importance of including a thorough fundus examination in the routine eye examination of these patients is emphasized.

A case of melanosis of the exocervix, which developed within eight months after cryotherapy for epithelial dysplasia, is reported. The literature on pigmented lesions of the cervix is briefly summarized and the importance of biopsy and histologic examination for diagnosis and classification of these lesions is emphasized.

A healthy 27-year-old West African man presented to the emergency room at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary complaining of a moving foreign body sensation in his right eye. He had experienced recurrent episodes of subconjunctival Loa Loa, a parasite endemic in Africa. A cryoprobe was successfully used for extraction of a large adult worm. Strategies for the removal of subconjunctival worms are presented. The systemic and ocular manifestations of Loa Loa are reviewed and a discussion of complications of medical management follows.

As a rule, there is a transient rise in intraocular pressure following cyclocryotherapy. The preoperative administration of retrobulbar anaesthesia to a group of patients significantly reduced intraocular pressure after cyclocryotherapy in this group as compared with a control group without anaesthesia. These results imply that the temporary rise in intraocular pressure after cyclocryotherapy is mediated by a neural pathway.

A 16-month-old boy had the mental and physical retardation, low-pitched cry, phocomelia with syndactyly, hirsutism, low-set ears, bushy eyebrows, elongated eyelashes, blepharoptosis, and strabismus characteristic of Cornelia de Lange syndrome along with ophthalmoscopic findings characteristic of Coats' disease. Cryotherapy made the abnormal telangiectatic vessels less prominent, but macular scarring produced poor visual acuity. Occlusion therapy was unsuccessful.

Transconjunctival cryopexy was applied to a malignant melanoma of the ciliary body and choroid of a 46-year-old white man. The tumor immediately became gray-white and pigment cells were liberated in the anterior chamber. Subsequently, an enucleation was performed which showed a localized area of cryodestruction of the melanoma which was lined by macrophages. The significance of this finding in implications for the use of cryopexy in the management of melanomas are discussed.

A new surgical technique, cryosurgical iridocyclectomy, was used in the excision of an iris melanoma encroaching on the ciliary body. Iris-tumor-anterior ciliary body segment was removed en bloc. Cryotherapy is used in treatment of chronic rhinitis and pharyngitis. The effect of cryotherapy on the qualitative and quantitative composition of the microflora was studied. Staphylococci prevailed in the rhinitis patients, streptococci, Clebsiella and Neisseria being registered more rarely. The staphlococcal isolates were highly sensitive to monomycin, neomycin, erythromycin and levomycetin.
