The differential diagnosis of cystic cervical masses includes cystic thyroid disease or some embryological diseases. Parathyroid cyst is one … considered as thyroid cysts. Diagnosis is best made by monitoring serum calcium levels and sending cyst fluid for parathormone analysis. We herein report a patient diagnosed with a parathyroid cyst who had received the diagnosis of goitre at other institute; including a review of the literature.

Dentigerous cyst is a developmental odontogenic cyst, which apparently develops by accumulation of fluid between reduced enamel epithelium and the tooth crown of an unerupted tooth. When observed with erupted and complete dentition the diagnosis is a surprise; as about 95% of dentigerous cysts involve the permanent dentition and only 5% are associated with supernumerary teeth. The usual age of clinical presentation of dentigerous cyst due to supernumerary tooth is during the first four decades. Mesiodens is a supernumerary tooth situated between the maxillary central incisors. More frequently

We treated a case of prostate cancer with cyst formation in an 80-year-old Japanese man presenting with constipation. Fist-sized elastic soft mass was palpable by digital rectal examination. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated a retrovesical cystic mass arisen from the prostate. Serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) was elevated to 15.7 ng/ml. Transrectal prostate needle biopsy revealed moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma and puncture of the cyst yielded aseptic bloody fluid. With a clinical diagnosis of prostate cancer (T2b N0 M1b) with cystic formation, hormo

A rare case of retroperitoneal bronchogenic cyst is presented. A 50-year-old man was referred to our hospital for an investigation of a retroperitoneal mass. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging confirmed a retroperitoneal mass, about 4 cm in diameter, adjacent to the left kidney and spleen. On the basis of these imaging modalities, a definitive diagnosis of this mass could not be made. So, resection of the mass was performed. The removed mass was an unilocular cyst and filled with mucinous fluid. Histopathologically, the cyst wall was composed of a fibrovascular connective tissu

A case is reported of splenic epidermoid cyst discovered in a 21-year-old female. The lesion was shown by abdominal ultrasonography and computed tomography to be 14 x 12 x 8 cm in size and to contain serous fluid in the lumen. The spleen was easily removed by surgery. Histopathologically, the epidermoid cyst was composed of a loosely fibrous wall and a single layer interior lining of flattened or low-cuboidal epithelium, without skin appendages. The remaining splenic tissue showed mild congestive change with thickened sinusoidal stroma. Most splenic cysts have presented with symptoms related t

A rare case of splenic epidermoid cyst (SEC) of the pancreas discovered in a 32-year-old Japanese female is reported. The lesion, 5 x 6 cm in size including caseous material and serous fluid in the lumen, was discovered by ultrasonography and computed tomography at the tail of the pancreas and was easily removed. Histopathologically, the cystic wall consisted of three components: the inside was lined by mature squamous epithelium with keratinization, the middle layer consisted of splenic pulp with a sinus structure, and the peripheral layer was dense fibrous connective tissue in which some inv

BACKGROUND: Colloid cysts are benign and rare tumors of the brain. The growth rates of these tumors are unpredictable. These cysts can increase in size and obstruct the cerebrospinal fluid pathways producing obstructive hydrocephalus. Consequently, this can manifest as acute severe headaches followed by deterioration in consciousness, or even sudden death in patients. Such remarkable episodes occurring in patients during air travel have been reported sparsely in the literature.
CASE DESCRIPTION: In this report, we narrate the ordeal of a patient who had severe headache followed by loss of con

Autosomal dominant polycystic disease (ADPKD) is an inherited disorder characterized by the development within renal tubules of innumerable cysts that progressively expand to cause renal insufficiency. Tubule cell proliferation and transepithelial fluid secretion combine to enlarge renal cysts, and 3'-5'-cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) stimulates that growth. The antidiuretic hormone, arginine vasopressin (AVP), operates continuously in ADPKD patients to stimulate the formation of cAMP, thereby contributing to cyst and kidney enlargement and renal dysfunction. Studies in animal models of

Analysis of 30 children with hydatid cysts of the liver who were treated by partial pericystectomy and external tube drainage showed that five (21%) of 24 cases in whom clear hydatid fluid was observed during surgery developed biliary leakage. The cysts in the remaining six contained bile-stained fluid, indicating the presence of cystobiliary communications, and five of these children continued to drain bile post-operatively, in spite of appropriate precautions taken during surgery. Histological examination of the pericyst wall confirmed the presence of openings of small bile ducts in the cyst

Adams in 1840 was the first to describe popliteal cysts, "the enlarged bursa is normally situated beneath the inner head of the gastrocnemius and communicates with the joint by a species of valvular opening." Baker whose name has been given to the cysts suggested in 1877 that the cyst may be a distended bursa related to the semimembranosus tendon. He also suggested that the cyst was connected with the knee synovium and pointed out that the fluid could not return to the joint. He considered that rupture could occur with the formation of calf cysts and that the leak could come from the popliteus

We report one liver cystadenocarcinoma and two cholangiocarcinomas coexisting with developmental liver cysts. The cystadenocarcinoma was a solitary multilocular cyst with histological features similar to those seen in ovarian mucinous cystadenocarcinoma. In contrast, the other two tumours were a mixture of solid adenocarcinoma and multiple non-neoplastic cysts containing serous fluid and lined mainly by atrophic epithelium. In both these cases renal cysts were also present and in one case there was focal malignant change of the epithelium lining the cysts from which the solid adenocarcinoma co

INTRODUCTION: A talar cyst is a fluid-filled sac in the talus bone, often caused by chronic stress fractures or traumatic injuries. A talar cyst if left untreated can result in chondromalacia of talus cartilage and ultimately arthritis. A timely intervention of cyst can have very good prognosis. An open cyst decompression and bone grafting is a standard procedure followed, but it is more invasive and sometimes involves medial malleolus osteotomy. If the same is done by arthroscopy, the morbidity of open procedure can be avoided.

INTRODUCTION: We report a case of a right parapelvic renal cyst causing intermittent ureteropelvic junction obstruction (UPJO).
DIAGNOSTIC EVALUATION: A 13-year-old male was referred for right flank pain. Stone protocol CT revealed renal pelvis dilation with punctate stones. Due to concern for intermittently obstructive calculi, he underwent ureteroscopy, which was unremarkable. A diuretic renogram showed symmetric uptake with partial emptying on the right with pain after diuretic administration. In office, we potentiated a Dietl's crisis with ultrasound obtained before and after fluid intake

Rathke's cleft cysts (RCC) are benign lesions that originate from remnants of Rathke's pouch. They can compress adjacent structures causing visual loss and endocrine dysfunction. The endoscopic endonasal transsphenoidal approach (EETA) has gained popularity in the surgical management of pituitary and parasellar tumors. However, postoperative cyst recurrence and endocrine dysfunction are still major concerns. A retrospective chart review was performed on 11 patients who underwent a purely EETA. Subtotal resection of the cyst wall with drainage of the intracystic contents followed by obliteratio

We report the case of 22-year-old man with nontraumatic intracystic hemorrhage into a middle cranial fossa arachnoid cyst associated with a contiguous subacute subdural hematoma. Arachnoid cysts are benign intra-arachnoidal fluid collections frequently detected incidentally during neuroimaging. Rare complications of arachnoid cysts such as intracystic hemorrhage or subdural hematomas and subdural hygromas typically occur after head trauma. Our review of the literature identified fewer than 30 cases of arachnoid cysts with complicating intracystic hemorrhage and ipsilateral subdural hematomas.

In the absence of a detached endocyst, unilocular echinococcal cysts of the liver may be difficult to distinguish from non-parasitic cysts. In an attempt to identify sonographic features that could help distinguish these two types of cysts, we retrospectively analyzed 64 cases of fluid-filled hepatic cysts whose parasitic nature was ultimately excluded. This experience allowed us to develop a simple scoring system that quantifies the likelihood that hepatic cysts are non-parasitic. Sonographic criteria, together with the results of standard serological testing for cystic echinococcosis, proved

Women with palpable breast cysts may have a higher risk of developing breast cancer. High concentrations of androgens and oestrogens have been found in breast cyst fluid, some of which may be implicated in mammary carcinogenesis. The aim of this study was to investigate whether breast cysts were capable of metabolizing radiolabeled dehydroepiandrosterone sulphate and, if so, to identify the metabolites formed. Breast cysts were found to possess the enzyme systems required for converting dehydroepiandrosterone sulphate to dehydroepiandrosterone, androstenedione, androstenediol, and testosterone…

While CT scanning is useful for diagnosis of hydrocephalus and fluid-containing intracranial cysts, air studies are often necessary to determine whether the cysts communicate with the ventricular or subarachnoid space. When obstructive hydrocephalus results, decompression of the cyst is normally adequate. Hydrocephalus not caused by a cyst still requires decompression, but in addition the cyst has to be treated. Until the exact pathways of absorption of water-soluble contrast media such as metrizamide are fully understood, it may be advisable not to administer them into the ventricles in patie

We present a case of isolated calyx that was mistaken for a large cyst. A 47-year-old woman was referred for sclerotherapy of a large cystic lesion on her left kidney. Computed tomography (CT) and ultrasound showed that the cystic lesion was a large cyst. We noticed that the cystic lesion was not a typical simple cyst, even after two sessions of catheter-mediated sclerotherapy. Isolated calyx was presumed by medical history review and was confirmed by aspirated fluid analysis and far delayed-phase CT after intravenous contrast injection. We performed meticulous selective arterial embolization

Hydrocele of the canal of Nuck is a rare condition in females. It results from the failure of obliteration of the distal portion of evaginated parietal peritoneum within the inguinal canal which forms a sac containing fluid. Patients generally present with inguinal swelling. We present a case of left sided cyst of canal of Nuck with left inguinal hernia in a 28-year-old female, which was diagnosed on ultrasonography. Patient underwent laparoscopic excision of cyst of canal of nuck with hernioplasty. Histopathology confirmed the diagnosis. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of la
