[Inverted papilloma of urinary bladder in two patients with urination difficulty as initial symptom].

We report two men with inverted papilloma of urinary bladder with urination difficulty as initial symptom. One was 51 years old and the other was 60 years old. Ultrasound revealed a tumor in the bladder and cystoscopy revealed a smooth-surfaced tumor with a stalk at the bladder trigon. They underwent transurethral resection of the bladder tumor and histopathological findings were consistent with inverted papilloma. Postoperatively, they are free of urination difficulty and have had no recurrence for 3 and 1 years, respectively.

[Bladder hemangioma: a case report].

We report a case of a bladder hemangioma in a 30-year-old woman. She was admitted to our department with the chief complaints of gross hematuria and dysuria. Cystoscopy revealed a red sessiled tumor 5 mm in diameter on the right wall of the bladder. Transurethral resection of bladder tumor was performed on September 13, 2000. The specimen was pathologically diagnosed as cavenous hemangioma of the urinary bladder. Including our case, 85 cases of hemangioma of the bladder are reviewed in the Japanese literature.

Bladder wall lipoma.

Bladder wall lipoma is a rare finding that includes mature, well-encapsulated fatty tissue within the submucosa of the bladder wall. We present a case of a submucosal bladder wall lipoma that was discovered incidentally during a workup for microhematuria. This lesion was seen during cystoscopy and removed using cold cup biopsy forceps. This lipoma should be differentiated from pelvic lipomatosis in that it was confined to the submucosa of the bladder wall and did not cause compression of the pelvic viscera or its structures.

[An ectopic ureter which drained into the perianal area].

The author reviews the clinical record of a 6-year-old boy, who had urinary incontinence with wetting of his underwear in the posterior part. IVP, Cystoscopy, Cystogram, Left Retrograde Pyelogram and Surgery showed a double distal ureter on the left side. The normal ureter drained in the bladder in the orthotopic ureteral orifice. The medial dilated ectopic ureter, in the form of an H, was connected to the normal ureter and drained in the perianal area. The incontinence stopped after the resection of the ectopic ureter.

[A case of sigmoid-vesical fistula complicating diverticulitis of the colon].

The clinical course of sigmoidvesical fistula due to rupture of colonic diverticulitis is described. The patient, a 72-year-old-man, had chief complaints of cloudy urine, pneumaturia and fecaluria. The fistula was diagnosed by cystoscopy. In this case, primary resection of the sigmoid colon and wedge resection of the bladder including fistula were performed, and the sigmoidvesical fistula was completely cured. Statistical analysis was made on 43 cases of colovesical fistula due to diverticulitis in Japan including our own case.

Evaluation of the diagnostic performance of YiDiXie™ tests in urothelial carcinoma.

BACKGROUND: Computed tomography (CT) is widely used to the diagnosis of upper urinary tract epithelial tumors, but the relatively inaccurate results may affect subsequent treatment. Cystoscopy is widely used for preoperative diagnosis of bladder tumors and postoperative review of urothelial carcinoma, but its invasiveness and corresponding complications are feared by patients. There is an urgent need to find a convenient, cost-effective and non-invasive diagnostic method to reduce the false-positive and false-negative rates of urinary tract CT, and to replace cystoscopy in the preoperative dia…

Time to Turn on the Blue Lights: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Photodynamic Diagnosis for Bladder Cancer.

CONTEXT: White light (WL) cystoscopy and transurethral resection of bladder tumour (TURBT) comprise the current gold standard technique for detecting and grading bladder cancer. However, with WL cystoscopy, recurrence following initial TURBT is high, and identification of smaller tumours and carcinoma in situ is poor. Photodynamic diagnosis (PDD) has been developed to improve the detection of bladder. OBJECTIVE: To assess the effect of PDD-guided TURBT compared with WL on recurrence rates (RRs) in non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). EVIDENCE ACQUISITION: A systematic review of the li…

Secondary Amyloidosis of the Urinary Bladder Presenting As Urinary Retention.

Bladder amyloidosis is a rare condition of insoluble extracellular protein deposition in the urinary bladder arising as a complication of underlying inflammation and immune dyscrasia. Diagnosis of bladder amyloidosis is done through cystoscopy and evidence of amyloid deposition on pathologic evaluation. Here, we present a case of secondary bladder amyloidosis presenting with acute urinary retention. After ruling out bladder malignancy, the patient was managed with suprapubic catheterization after failing beta-3 agonist therapy and clean intermittent catheterization.

[TYPICAL TYPE CYSTITIS GLANDULARIS PRESENTING URINARY RETENTION IN A YOUNG MAN: ADJUVANT THERAPY USING ORAL CYCLOOXYGENASE-2 INHIBITOR: A CASE REPORT].

A 31-year-old man was referred to our hospital with urinary retention. Cystoscopy revealed multiple edematous papillary tumors on the bladder trigone and neck, which were removed by transurethral resection. The pathological diagnosis was typical type cystitis glandularis. This relapsed six months after surgery and transurethral resection was repeated. Because immunohistochemical findings revealed positive epithelial cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) signals, we prescribed an oral COX-2 inhibitor. The tumor revealed shrinkage for six months after medication.

Cracking haematuria in adolescent with negative work up.

A 16-year-old girl was referred to our nephrology clinic with persistent visible haematuria (2 months), no urinary tract infection, proteinuria ranging from negligible to 1.5 g/l, normal kidney function and otherwise negative work up including immunology screen. After negative ultrasound scans of the kidneys and bladder, normal renal biopsy and normal cystoscopy, a CT angiogram was obtained. It showed no evidence of arteriovenous malformation but revealed compression of left renal vein (nutcracker syndrome).

[Perioperative antimicrobial preventive treatment in urology].

Infectious complications following urologic surgery include bacteriuria, bacteremia, sepsis, acute pyelonephritis, and wound infection. Antimicrobial prophylaxis reduces the risk of some of these complications and is recommended in transrectal core biopsy of the prostate, transurethral surgery, open prostatectomy, and stone surgery. Prophylaxis does not appear to be beneficial in patients undergoing transrectal needle or transperineal core biopsy of the prostate, cystoscopy, orchiectomy, hydrocelectomy, and simple nephrectomy. Patients with urinary tract infection preoperatively should receive…

Paradoxical incontinence caused by "invisible dysplastic" kidneys: role of laparoscopy.

A 35-year old female presented with paradoxical urinary incontinence. Examination under general anesthesia did not reveal any abnormality and cystoscopy showed absent right hemitrigone. Radiological and other renal imaging modalities revealed absent right kidney and normal functioning left kidney. Simultaneous localization and removal of small dysplastic right kidney was carried out by transperitoneal laparoscopy. Role of laparoscopy is emphasized in patients presenting with paradoxical urinary incontinence with no "visible" kidney/ureteric orifice on conventional evaluation.

[Neuroendocrine cell carcinoma of the urinary bladder: a case report].

We report a case of neuroendocrine cell carcinoma of the urinary bladder. The patient was a 70-year-old man, complaining of pollakisuria. Cystoscopy and computerized tomography revealed a nonpapillary tumor. The tumor was removed by transurethral resection. Because of muscular invasion (T2) and histological grade, total cystectomy and ileal conduit were carried out. Examination of the resected specimen indicated pathological TO. He rejected our proposal to have chemotherapy. Twelve months post-operatively he was alive without recurrence.

[Ectopic left ureter emptying into the ipsilateral seminal vesicle: diagnosis with nuclear magnetic resonance].

We report on a 35-year-old male patient with ectopic left ureter entering the seminal vesicle associated with ipsilateral renal dysplasia who consulted for pain in the left renal fossa, painful ejaculation and recurrent episodes of left epididymitis. Patient evaluation included cystoscopy, urography, CT and MRI. However, only MRI showed precise images of the trajectory of the ectopic ureter, thereby obviating the need for other invasive diagnostic techniques and permitting surgical correction of the anomaly.

Tuberculous vesico-vaginal fistula.

A 32-year-old female with a past history of pulmonary tuberculosis presenting with dribbling of urine per vaginam had a small fistulous opening in the anterior vaginal wall. Chest X-ray showed active tuberculosis. Right hydronephrosis and hydroureter with autonephrectomy of left kidney and vesico-vaginal fistula were demonstrated on intravenous urography. On cystoscopy, the bladder was contracted with two small fistulous openings. Cecocystoplasty and repair of fistulae were successfully done. Histology of bladder wall showed tuberculous cystitis.

Papillary urothelial carcinoma of the vagina: A case presentation and review of the literature.

A 92-year-old woman with history of right nephroureterectomy for low grade Ta urothelial carcinoma (UC) of the renal pelvis and proximal ureter and high grade Ta and carcinoma-in-situ of the bladder presented for surveillance cystoscopy in 2019. She was found to have no evidence of disease within bladder or upper tract, however demonstrated a large papillary lesion within the vagina. This lesion stained for p40+, p16 patchy+, and GATA3+, all markers of UC, and the same molecular makeup of her prior bladder tumor.

Bladder Malakoplakia in Systemic Sclerosis Patient: A Case Report and Review Literature.

Malakoplakia, an anecdotal reactive granulomatous lesion, is a rare pathologic entity but relatively more common in genitourinary tracts. Here we report a case of malakoplakia in the urinary bladder in systemic sclerosis. The patient was a 66-year-old female treated with long-term corticosteroid and cyclophosphamide. She presented with gross hematuria, and cystoscopy and biopsy revealed malakoplakia. There was no tumor and the stains for infectious organism were all negative. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case report of malakoplakia in a systemic sclerosis patient.

Robotic approach to resection of villous adenoma of the urachus: a case report and literature review.

Very few cases of villous adenomas of the bladder or urinary tract have been described. To our knowledge this is the first account of resection of an urachal villous adenoma via robotic laparoscopy, which is a safe and efficacious surgical approach. At this time, there is not enough evidence to suggest that progression of disease to carcinoma is the typical course. Nonetheless, follow-up cystoscopy is recommended after complete removal of the adenoma to monitor for recurrence. This case report reviews the current literature and describes a novel approach to treatment of this exceedingly rare e…

[Migration intravésicale d’un dispositif intra-utérin Cas clinique et revue de la littérature].

Intravesical migration of intrauterine device (IUD) is a rare complication. We report a case of IUD that migrated into the bladder of a 31-year-old woman who had it for four years, and presented with irritative bladder symptoms following a miscarriage. The diagnosis was first suspected by an ultrasound and confirmed by cystoscopy. Treatment consisted by removing the IUD endoscopically. This case shows the importance of following the medical instructions for the placement of an intrauterine device, and regularly verifying its localization in order to reduce the incidence of uterine perforation …
