Taurine and N-Bromotaurine in Topical Treatment of Psoriasis.

Psoriasis is a chronic skin auto-inflammatory and systemic disorder. Novel treatments are needed to solve a plethora of cases refractory to current treatment regimens. N-bromotaurine (TauNH-Br), a natural taurine oxidizing derivative produced by inflammatory cells, has anti-inflammatory, antiproliferative, and antimicrobial properties. This evidence prompted us to use TauNH-Br as a local agent for treatment of therapy-refractory psoriasis. Two pustular-plaque psoriasis cases, unresponsive to systemic and local treatments, one with localized lesions and one with generalized lesions, were select

Black-Spot Toxicodendron Dermatitis With Varied Presentation.

This article describes the clinical presentation, differential diagnosis, and treatment of 2 unrelated cases with different presentations of black-spot Toxicodendron dermatitis. In the first case, a healthy 7-y-old male presented with a rash consisting of black dots with localized surrounding erythema on the left arm. The rash then progressed to a vesicular, pinpoint, raised rash spreading to the face, arms, and neck. In the second case, a 4-y-old male presented with non-pruritic, black, flat, non-erythematous lesions that did not progress. This patient's older sibling had been diagnosed with

Case Series of Stevens-Johnson Syndrome and Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis With Nivolumab and Nivolumab/ Ipilimumab Combination Therapy in Metastatic Melanoma.

Nivolumab (anti PD-1 antibody) and ipilimumab (anti CTLA-4 antibody) are immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) that effectively stimulate the native T cell response and lead to an antitumor response. The medications have been approved for the treatment of metastatic melanoma. However, ICIs are associated with higher risk for cutaneous immune-related adverse events (irAEs). Although most of the adverse events present as maculopapular rash, some patients develop Stevens-Johnson Syndrome (SJS) or Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis which are dermatologic emergencies with high mortality. We report a fatal cas

An Adolescent With a Retropharyngeal Swelling: To Drain or Not to Drain?: Keeping a Broad Vision During the COVID-19 Pandemic.

An 18-year-old patient with a history of COVID-19 (1 month previously) was admitted with malaise and complaints of a stiff neck, a left-sided cervical mass, headache, and difficulty in swallowing and breathing, which had been present for 4 days. Two days after the onset of the first symptoms, a painless skin rash on the legs, arms, palms of both hands, and soles of both feet developed. Despite 2 days of treatment with antibiotics (amoxicillin/clavulanic acid, 500/125 mg three times daily orally), symptoms progressed. On presentation, the patient was alert and oriented, there were no neurologic

Classification of human chronic inflammatory skin disease based on single-cell immune profiling.

Inflammatory conditions represent the largest class of chronic skin disease, but the molecular dysregulation underlying many individual cases remains unclear. Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) has increased precision in dissecting the complex mixture of immune and stromal cell perturbations in inflammatory skin disease states. We single-cell-profiled CD45+ immune cell transcriptomes from skin samples of 31 patients (7 atopic dermatitis, 8 psoriasis vulgaris, 2 lichen planus (LP), 1 bullous pemphigoid (BP), 6 clinical/histopathologically indeterminate rashes, and 7 healthy controls). Our d

Monkeypox in a Young Infant - Florida, 2022.

In August 2022, the Florida Department of Health (FDOH) was notified of a suspected case of monkeypox in an infant aged <2 months who was admitted to a Florida hospital with a rash and cellulitis. This case report highlights findings from the related epidemiologic investigation and describes the public health actions taken. This activity was reviewed by CDC and was conducted consistent with applicable federal law and CDC policy.* This is the youngest patient with confirmed monkeypox infection in Florida to date.

Acral Papulovesicular Eruption in a Soldier Following Smallpox Vaccination.

Smallpox vaccination is associated with several potential cutaneous adverse reactions, ranging from benign self-limited hypersensitivity reactions to life-threatening eczema vaccinatum and progressive vaccinia. Acral papulovesicular eruption is a distinct presentation that has been described in US Military service members following vaccination with the second-generation smallpox vaccine (ACAM2000, Sanofi Pasteur Biologics Co). We describe a case of this unique cutaneous eruption and review previously described cutaneous adverse events associated with smallpox vaccination.

Monkeypox: a new global health emergency with predominant dermatological manifestations.

Monkeypox is a zoonotic virus belonging to the Orthopoxvirus genus. Previously endemic to Africa, outbreaks have been reported from all over the world, the largest of which is currently ongoing. Dermatologists are principally involved in recognition and diagnosis of the infection. This narrative review primarily focuses on clinical manifestations and highlights the unique epidemiological features of current outbreak. Lesions observed during the current outbreak lack the evolution described in endemic disease. Polymorphic lesions are common and may be confined to anogenital area. Onset of "prod

Leprosy rash precipitated by immunotherapy for suspected inflammatory neuropathy.

Leprosy is a chronic granulomatous infection caused by Mycobacterium leprae complex, causing skin and nerve lesions with potential for permanent disability. Leprosy can be overlooked in Western settings, as it is more prevalent in low-income and middle-income countries. We describe a 38-year-old woman with a 4-year history of progressive numbness of the left hand incorrectly diagnosed as multifocal acquired demyelinating sensory and motor neuropathy on the basis of clinical and neurophysiological findings. Treatment with empirical weekly corticosteroid followed by intravenous immunoglobulin re
