A 50-year-old man presented with a reddish, well-vascularized mass in the region of a nasal iridodialysis of his left eye, pushing the whole iris in this sector forwards; the mass had a pinkish, partly cystic appearance in the pupil. PURPOSE: To report the management of a patient who had LeFort type III fractures and traumatic luxation of the globe with avulsion of the optic nerve and all extraocular muscles except for the medial rectus.
METHODS: Eight hours after the trauma, the detached and retracted superior and lateral recti muscles could be found and sutured to their original insertions. The inferior rectus could not be retrieved.
RESULTS: Although the left eye had no light perception, most of its motility was restored resulting in an unblemished cosmesis.

In a 34-year-old black man with pulmonary tuberculosis, a rapidly enlarging choroidal tuberculoma progressed to larger size, despite appropriate systemic anti-tuberculous therapy. The eye harboring the tuberculoma became blind and painful, and was subsequently enucleated. Conventional staining of tissue sections revealed a choroidal granuloma without evidence of organisms, but tubercle bacilli were demonstrated by fluorescence microscopy.

Non-Hodgkin's lymphomas can simulate uveitis. Two patients with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma had anterior uveitis. Material was obtained from the enucleated eye in case 1, and from an inguinal lymph node in case 2. Immunologic evaluation of this material led to the diagnosis of peripheral T-cell lymphoma in both cases. Immunologic evaluation is useful in the examination of patients with lymphoma.

A 42-year-old man with neurofibromatosis type 1 underwent a giant facial neurofibroma resection and enucleation of the right eye. He was found to have a diffusely thickened and cellular choroid containing individual or small clusters of large ganglion and medium-sized neuronal cells. The nomenclature of this lesion is difficult; however, the term choroidal ganglioneuronal hamartoma has been favored due to the lack of proliferative activity and diffuse nature of the lesion arguing against a neoplastic etiology. A 55-year-old woman presented to the emergency room with complete loss of vision in the left eye after being bit in the face by her autistic grandson. She had a small upper eyelid laceration and an anophthalmic socket on the left side. A thorough history revealed that the bite had caused traumatic luxation of her globe, which had allowed the child to transect the optic nerve with his teeth. Careful attention was directed toward the prevention of retrograde infection in this unusual case of traumatic enucleation.
