Digestibility of amino acids in organically cultivated white-flowering faba bean and cake from cold-pressed rapeseed, linseed and hemp seed in growing pigs.

The study aimed at determining the ileal apparent (IAD) and standardised ileal (SID) digestibility of crude protein (CP) and amino acids (AA) in organically cultivated white-flowering faba beans (Vicia faba), and cakes from hemp seed (Cannabis sativa), linseed (Linum usitatissimum) and rapeseed (Brassica napus). The experiment was designed as a four period cross-over trial with six castrated male Yorkshire pigs fitted with post valve T-caecum (PVTC) cannulas. The IAD and SID of CP for the feed ingredients ranged from 79.2-85.9% and were affected by dietary treatment, with significantly lower v

Response of Dormancy-associated MADS-box (DAM) and Flowering Locus T (FT) genes to contrasting temperature conditions during dormancy in apricot (Prunus armeniaca L.).

Chilling requirement (CR) fulfilment is critical for successful flowering in temperate fruit trees. In mild-winter regions, several anomalies can occur when the cultivar-specific CR is not fully met, including irregular budbreak, bud abortion, and ultimately reduced fruit set. In this study, we examined the molecular regulation of dormancy release in three apricot (Prunus armeniaca L.) cultivars grown under contrasting climates (warm vs. cold/mild winters). We focused on Dormancy-associated MADS-box (DAM) genes and Flowering Locus T (FT) gene using RT-qPCR to evaluate their potential as molecu

Optimization of Enzyme-Assisted Ultrasonic Extraction of a Quercetin-Containing Crude Extract from Sophora japonica Flower Buds and Evaluation of Its In Vitro Antioxidant and Antibacterial Activities.

Flower buds of Sophora japonica are flavonoid-rich edible botanical materials. This study developed an enzyme-assisted ultrasonic protocol for producing a quercetin-containing crude extract. A Box-Behnken design evaluated β-glucosidase concentration, digestion time, and the cellulase-to-pectinase mass ratio. The quadratic model was significant (p < 0.0001; R2 = 0.9848; adjusted R2 = 0.9652). At 14 U/mL β-glucosidase, 72 min of digestion, and a mass ratio of 1.25:1 (w/w), the UV-estimated quercetin-equivalent yield reached 7.34%, compared with 4.17% for ultrasound alone (p < 0.001). HPLC based

Potential therapeutic activity of Phlogacanthus thyrsiformis Hardow (Mabb) flower extract and its biofabricated silver nanoparticles against chemically induced urolithiasis in male Wistar rats.

Urolithiasis is a painful disorder in which stones are formed in the kidney, bladder or urethra. There are no proper therapeutic treatments available for kidney stones and people suffering from larger stones have to undergo surgery which has many side effects. A natural remedy with therapeutic effects that can dissipate and remove even the larger stones would eliminate the need of a surgery and the risks associated with it. The flowers of Phlogacanthus thyrsiformis used in culinary recipes in the north eastern India are also widely used as a folklore medicine for the treatment of kidney stones…

AtC3H17, a Non-Tandem CCCH Zinc Finger Protein, Functions as a Nuclear Transcriptional Activator and Has Pleiotropic Effects on Vegetative Development, Flowering and Seed Development in Arabidopsis.

Despite increasing reports that CCCH zinc finger proteins function in plant development and stress responses, the functions and molecular aspects of many CCCH zinc finger proteins remain uncharacterized. Here, we characterized the biological and molecular functions of AtC3H17, a unique Arabidopsis gene encoding a non-tandem CCCH zinc finger protein. AtC3H17 was ubiquitously expressed throughout the life cycle of Arabidopsis plants and their organs. The rate and ratio of seed germination of atc3h17 mutants were slightly slower and lower, respectively, than those of the wild type (WT), whereas A

Then, we selected two genera, Sarcophaga flies and Fritillaria flowers, to perform in-depth pattern analyses allowing us to make strong hypotheses on the mechanisms producing these very peculiar patterns, as no morphogenetic process was known to generate checkerboards. Although they share a similar geometry, these two …

Modulating red: Far-red ratios accelerates speed breeding efficiency by coordinating photosynthesis and flowering in winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) under controlled environments.

The ratio of red to far-red light (R/FR) is well known to regulate plant photosynthesis and flowering. However, the molecular and physiological mechanisms underlying these coordinated responses in winter wheat remain largely unclear. In a controlled-environment growth chamber, we investigated flowering behavior, photosynthetic performance, genome-wide transcriptional responses, and breeding efficiency in winter wheat under four R/FR light treatments: 10:1, 2:1, 1:1, and 1:2. Compared with an R/FR ratio of 10:1, an R/FR ratio of 2:1 significantly enhanced breeding efficiency, enabling up to 4.7

High-Resolution Mass Spectrometry Reveals Distinct Temporal Accumulation Patterns of Metabolites in Reproductive Organs of Purple- and White-Flowered Platycodon grandiflorus Across Developmental Stages.

BACKGROUND: Flower color is a well-defined trait in Platycodon grandiflorus, whereas little is known about the effects of flower color variation on the metabolic profiles of reproductive organs. Triterpenoid saponins and flavonoids have common precursors upstream, suggesting a potential carbon flux trade-off. METHODS: Untargeted UPLC-MS/MS metabolomics was performed on the reproductive organs of purple- and white-flowered P. grandiflorus at six stages of flower development. Mfuzz time-series clustering, PCA, and metabolite correlation networks were used for data analysis. RESULTS: Six cluste
