Extrapulmonary tuberculosis (TB) is difficult to diagnose. Here, we report a case of extrapulmonary TB in a 68-year-old woman presented with mental fatigue, poor appetite, and weight loss. F-FDG PET/CT revealed elevated F-FDG uptake in the left inferior cervical, left supraclavicular, mediastinal, and splenic hilum lymph nodes and spleen, which were suspected of malignant tumor. To further differentiate benign and malignant diseases, Ga-FAPI PET/CT was performed. Ga-FAPI PET/CT also showed intense Ga-FAPI uptake in the previously mentioned FDG-avid lesions. However, biopsy of the left supracla

Tuberculosis, caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex, is a leading cause of mortality in the world, and 15% of the patients may present with extrapulmonary diseases, including splenic lesion. However, isolated splenic infection with M. tuberculosis complex is very rare. A 19-year-old otherwise healthy woman presented with left flank pain, revealing FDG-avid nodules in the spleen. She did not have pulmonary lesions. Histopathology of splenectomized sample showed granuloma, and subsequent PCR revealed amplification of IS6110, a genetic sequence exclusively detected in M. tuberculosis compl

Lead endocarditis (LE) is a serious complication of permanent trans-venous pacing. Localizing LE may be challenging with conventional imaging modalities. 2-deoxy-2-[fluorine-18] fluoro-D-glucose positron emission tomography-computed tomography (FDG PET/CT) has recently emerged as a promising tool in the diagnosis of LE particularly in cases with normal echocardiographic imaging findings and/or negative blood culture. However, this technique is associated with some drawbacks. Knowledge of these drawbacks and correlating its limitations with other imaging modality is essential for the echocardio

INTRODUCTION: Ovarian dysgerminoma (OD) mostly affect young women, have a rapid growth rate, and could result in complications such as rupture, hemoperitoneum or torsion, and acute abdomen. However, there have been no reports of OD on F-FDG PET/CT imaging.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 21-year-old female patient was admitted to our hospital on February 6, 2016, due to "reduced menstrual flow with abdominal distension for 3 months".
DIAGNOSIS: Color Doppler ultrasound showed a large solid mass in the abdomen and pelvis. Serum carbohydrate antigen 125 (CA125) was elevated significantly. Subsequent compu

A 55-year-old man and a 52-year-old man presenting with neurological symptoms were referred for F-FDG PET/CT for the underlying malignancy. In both cases, extensive intraspinal hypermetabolism was observed in F-FDG PET/CT. The cerebrospinal fluid culture finally confirmed infection of Brucella. This report illustrates that neurobrucellosis may present as intraspinal hypermetabolism on F-FDG PET/CT, and thus it should be added to the differential diagnosis.

A 43-year-old woman presented with progressive muscle weakness and myalgia for 1 month. Laboratory tests revealed the elevation of myogenic enzymes. MRI of the thighs demonstrated a pattern of edema for inflammatory myopathy. Electromyography showed diffuse myopathic disorder, and muscle biopsy indicated polymyositis. F-FDG PET/CT was performed to investigate the potential paraneoplastic syndrome and revealed a soft tissue lesion with F-FDG avidity in the right anterior mediastinum, as well as diffusely increased activity throughout the body muscles. The patient's symptoms and biochemical abno

PURPOSE: In cancer of unknown primary (CUP), positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) with the glucose analog [18F]FDG represents the standard imaging approach for localization of the malignant primary. Frequently, however, [18F]FDG PET/CT cannot precisely distinguish between small occult tumors and chronic inflammation, especially in Waldeyer's tonsillar ring. To improve the accuracy for detecting primary tumors in the Waldeyer's tonsillar ring, the novel PET tracer [68Ga]Ga-FAPI-4 for specific imaging of fibroblast activation protein (FAP) expression was used as a more speci

Tuberculosis (TB) is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Although the disease is curable and preventable, it is underdiagnosed in many parts of the world. Positron emission tomography (PET) imaging using 18 F-FDG in TB can localise disease sites and the extent of disease. 18F-FDG accumulates in the immune cells that participate in inflammation and granuloma formation, such as activated macrophages and lymphocytes. Therefore, FDG PET/CT scanning is now being evaluated for its usefulness in the diagnosis of extrapulmonary TB and in monitoring the response to treatment. FDG PET/CT imagi

The Lugano classification was published in 2014 to form the basis for revising the recommendations regarding anatomic staging and evaluation of disease before and after therapy. This staging system was adopted by the eighth edition of the Cancer Staging Manual of the American Joint Committee on Cancer. In this review, we aimed to discuss this updated staging system for malignant lymphomas. The most important change was that fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography became the new standard imaging technique for staging of all fluorodeoxyglucose-avid histologies. Due to

Lymphoepithelioma-like carcinoma (LELC) in the trachea is an extremely rare disease. We present a case of a 64-year-old man with FDG-avid tracheal LELC on F-FDG PET/CT. Despite its rarity, LELC in the trachea should be considered as one of the possibilities in patients with a hypermetabolic mass in the trachea. If LELC in the trachea is suspected, F-FDG PET/CT is a useful tool for initial staging.

MR and F-FDG PET/MR images of a 15-year-old boy with recurrent mild abdominal pain and hyperamylasemia demonstrating a pancreatic head lesion hypointense on the T1-weighted and slightly hyperintense on the T2-weighted images, with very small pseudocystic areas, restricted diffusion on the apparent diffusion coefficient map, and focal FDG uptake. No other pathologic findings such as enlarged lymph nodes, vascular invasion, metastases, dilatation of the main pancreatic duct, or pathologic uptake of the parotid glands were detected. The MR features, even if atypical, together with the focal uptak

Familial adenomatous polyposis is a rare autosomal dominant intestinal syndrome with a high rate of malignant transformation. Here, we report a 20-year-old woman with a diagnosis of familial adenomatous polyposis by pathologic examination after colonoscopy biopsy, who underwent an F-FDG PET/CT to assess the extent of this disease. The images showed diffuse elevated FDG uptake along the entire colorectum. Additionally, focal enlarged lymph nodes with increased FDG uptake were noted. These findings promoted proctocolectomy and lymphadenectomy.

Infection and inflammation are a common occurrence with orthopaedic procedures. Anatomical modalities can show the transformation in the disease process; however, these may occur later when compared with functional imaging modalities that are more likely to identify early disease patterns. Various molecular imaging modalities such as three-phase bone scintigraphy, labelled leucocyte scintigraphy, as well as radiolabelled antibiotics and immunoglobulins have been considered and have played key roles in assisting clinical decision-making. While 18F-flurodeoxyglucose (FDG) PET/computed tomography

A 53-year-old man with a 10-year history of gout was admitted to our hospital due to chronic low back pain. Initial CT examinations showed a high-density mass with bone destruction of bilateral facet joints at the L3 to L5 level. MRI findings also revealed lesion with the dural sac compression. On PET/CT, the juxta-articular mass of bilateral L3 to L5 facet joints showed abnormal FDG uptake with an SUVmax of 4.2. The possible diagnosis may be gouty tophi; however, the biopsy revealed the diagnosis of calcium pyrophosphate dihydrate deposition disease, also referred to as pseudogout.
