A portable, quick-visualization platform for field detection of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense Tropical Race 4 (Foc TR4) in banana.

Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense (Foc) is a soil-borne fungal pathogen that causes Fusarium wilt of banana (FWB), leading to multiple outbreaks worldwide and resulting in severe economic losses. In the absence of any effective fungicides or soil disinfectants for this disease, rapid in-field detection of this pathogen is essential for early intervention and containment. However, current in-field detection methods still rely on instruments, making the process time-consuming and complex. Herein, we developed a portable and ultra-fast detection assay for Foc Tropical Race 4 (TR4), the most destr

Surface Carrier Testing of Hospital Antiseptics Against Candida parapsilosis from Healthcare Workers' Hands.

Candida parapsilosis is a major cause of healthcare-associated infections due to its persistence on abiotic surfaces and efficient transmission via healthcare workers' hands. This study evaluated the antifungal efficacy and safety of clinically relevant antiseptics against 60 C. parapsilosis clinical isolates using a surface carrier test designed to simulate contamination and disinfection events on hospital surfaces. Antifungal activity was assessed by logarithmic reduction (log10) assays on surface carriers and by minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) testing. Potential synergistic interacti

Clusters of emerging multidrug-resistant organisms in US health care facilities during the initial months of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic.

BACKGROUND: Outbreaks of emerging multidrug-resistant organisms (eMDROs), including carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales, carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii, and Candida auris, have been reported among severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) patients. We describe eMDRO clusters in SARS-CoV-2 units and associated infection control (IC) practices early in the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective survey of a convenience sample of health departments in 11 states to describe clusters of eMDROs that began before November 1, 2020 and involved SAR

Pulp Regenerative Therapy Using Autologous Dental Pulp Stem Cells in a Mature Tooth with Apical Periodontitis: A Case Report.

The utility and feasibility of pulp regenerative therapy with autologous dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) in mature teeth with irreversible pulpitis were clinically demonstrated. On the other hand, there is no evidence of the utility of DPSCs in mature teeth with apical periodontitis. The aim of this case report was to describe the potential utility of regenerative cell therapy in mature teeth with apical periodontitis. A 44-year-old man was referred for pulp regeneration due to a periapical lesion in his maxillary first premolar. Root canal disinfection was performed by irrigation and intracana

Bacterial contamination of lightproof covers for high-calorie infusion solutions in wards.

Deterioration of drugs due to light exposure is one of the major concerns, especially regarding protection of high-calorie infusion solutions, lightproof covers are used in hospitals. In the absence of any set standards regarding their usage, they are often reused. This study aimed to investigate bacterial contamination of lightproof covers used in hospital wards. For this, lightproof covers which had been used or stored in wards were collected and bacterial cultures were carried out from them. Examination of the cultures revealed that bacteria were present in the used lightproof covers. The b

[Verification of the effectiveness of neutralization in the in vivo study of antiseptics].

Well defined controls of the effectiveness of antiseptic neutralizing agents in vitro already exist (Afnor Standards for antiseptics and disinfectants). Conversely, there is currently no standard method for verifying how effectively such agents neutralize antiseptics which have been applied to the skin. We describe a method in which the neutralizing solution is first applied to the antiseptic-treated skin and then filtered to remove skin flora. The effect of the neutralizing agent is then checked using a test organism (Staphylococcus epidermidis ATCC 14990) in parallel with four controls: viab

Lessons learned from a structured and descriptive analysis of nosocomial outbreaks in hematology-oncology.

Nosocomial outbreaks among immunocompromised patients are serious events. We conducted a descriptive analysis of nosocomial outbreaks in hematology and oncology, drawing on data from 196 outbreaks included in the Worldwide Outbreak Database. Our analysis includes patient characteristics, pathogens, outbreak sources, routes of transmission, and infection control measures. Furthermore, it determines risk factors for increased infection control effort by using the Weighted Cumulative Hygiene Score (WCHS). Bloodstream infections and lower respiratory tract infections were most often observed in th

Prevention of arterial catheter-related bloodstream infections: current evidence and future directions.

Arterial catheters (ACs) are essential devices widely used for hemodynamic monitoring and blood sampling. Whilst their infectious risk is well-known, the surveillance and identification of arterial catheter-related bloodstream infections (AC-CRBSI) remains underappreciated, and guidelines recommending best practices to prevent infection are few and inconsistent. Most evidence for AC infection prevention is inferred from studies focused on central venous catheter infection prevention. Few studies have directly explored optimal infection prevention strategies for ACs. For AC-CRBSI prevention, se

:: Воздействие различных информационно-пропагандистских мероприятий на мероприятия по предотвращению Эболы и психосоциальные факторы, предвосхищающие действия по предотвращению Эболы в Гамбии;
