Risk and associated risk factors of hospitalization for specific health problems over time in childhood cancer survivors: a medical record linkage study.

Childhood cancer survivors (CCS) experience higher hospitalization rates compared to the general population for neoplasms, circulatory diseases, endocrine/nutritional/metabolic diseases and eye disorders. We studied trends in hospitalization rates and associated patient and treatment-specific risk factors for diagnosis subgroups among these four diseases. We performed medical record linkage of a ≥5-year CCS cohort with national registers, and obtained a random reference sample matched on age, gender and calendar year per CCS. For each diagnosis subgroup we compared hospitalization rates and tr

Record linkage between hospital discharges and mortality registries for motor neuron disease case ascertainment for the Spanish National Rare Diseases Registry.

Our objective was to analyse the coverage of hospital discharge data and the mortality registry (MR) of La Rioja to ascertain motor neuron disease (MND) cases to be included in the Spanish National Rare Diseases Registry. MND cases that occurred in La Rioja during the period 1996-2011 were selected from hospital discharge data and the MR by means of the International Classification of Diseases. Review of the medical histories was carried out to confirm the causes of death reported. Characteristics of the population with MND were analysed. A total of 133 patients with MND were detected in La Ri

The effect of electronic medical record application on the length of stay in a Chinese general hospital: a department- and disease-focused interrupted time-series study.

A key purpose of electronic medical records (EMR) introduced in medical institutions is to improve work efficiency. The average length of stay (LOS) is just an important indicator to evaluate work efficiency of medical care in hospitals. Recently, there have been reports about effects of EMR application on LOS in medical institutions, but they have been mostly based on the overall analysis of a region or a hospital and not of specific clinical departments and diseases or based on longer time periods. Therefore, in this study, we selected four clinical departments and four diseases with the lar

Trends and Differences in Status Epilepticus Treatment of Children and Adults Over 10 Years: A Comparative Study of Medical Records (2012-2021) from a University Hospital in Germany.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Over the last decade, significant advancements have been made in status epilepticus (SE) management, influenced by landmark trials such as ESETT and RAMPART. The objectives of this study were to explore the evolution of drug treatments for patients with SE, to investigate its association with outcomes and mortality, and to evaluate differences in treatment patterns between adults and children for a potential shift in medication trends due to the above mentioned trials. METHODS: The medical records of patients with SE treated at University Hospital Frankfurt between

Who is coercively admitted to psychiatric wards? Epidemiological analysis of inpatient records of involuntary psychiatric admissions to a University General Hospital in Greece for the years 2008-2017.

METHOD: We retrospectively assessed inpatient records from 2008 to 2017 of patients admitted to the Department of Psychiatry of the Ioannina University General Hospital, Northwestern

Linking hospital patient records for suspected or established acute coronary syndrome in a complex secondary care system: a proof-of-concept e-registry in National Health Service Scotland.

AIMS: To implement secondary care electronic record linkage for patients hospitalized with suspected or known acute coronary syndrome (ACS) in a complex regional health care system and evaluate this e-Registry in terms of patterns of service delivery and 1-year outcomes.
