INTRODUCTION: A recently discovered facet of paraneoplastic adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) deficiency exists in two forms: a paraneoplastic spontaneous isolated ACTH deficiency (IAD) and an immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI)-related hypophysitis. Autoantibodies against corticotrophs, such as circulating anti-proopiomelanocortin (POMC) antibodies are considered disease markers. Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) is a rare disorder, characterised by a monoclonal proliferation of aberrant histiocytes that accumulate in and infiltrate into different organs. The authors describe rather rare clinical forms of diffuse toxic goiter with bradycardia, pretibial myxedema, the absence of ophthalmic sings and noticeable cachexy. All necessary investigations for more rational differential diagnosis are enlisted. A possibility of the development of the clinical picture of thyrotoxicosis in TTH producting hypophyseal adenomas, chorionepithelioma and hydatidiform mole is emphasized.

Involvement of the pituitary gland is only rarely observed in hantavirus infection. This report describes the case of a patient who had transient hypopituitarism requiring hormonal replacement therapy due to hypophysitis as a result of Puumala virus infection. MRI studies revealed oedematous swelling of the gland as a morphological correlate. This report provides new evidence that hypopituitarism can be a serious complication in Puumala virus infection and highlights the clinical implications of this disorder.

A 59-year-old female presented with headache and fatigue. Angiography revealed a giant superior hypophyseal aneurysm with intrasellar extension. Serum endocrine panel demonstrated pituitary insufficiency. The aneurysm was treated with a pipeline flow-diverting stent and the hypopituitarism was treated with hormone replacement. Pituitary insufficiency from aneurysmal compression is extremely rare.

The article presents the results of investigation into hypothalamic-hypophyseal-adrenal system in cerebral atherosclerosis leading to mental disorders. A hypothesis was put forward assuming a major role of luliberins in the pathogenesis of these disorders. Reported are the data on practical application of luliberin in the therapy of mental disorders in cerebral atherosclerosis. Clinical observations and inferences were confirmed in biochemical studies.

Hypopituitarism can be the sequela of a variety of causes like postpartum pituitary necrosis or Sheehan's syndrome, lymphocytic hypophysitis, trauma and encephalitis. A very rare cause is envenomation by a bite of a Russell's viper. Very few cases with documented imaging findings of chronic pituitary failure resulting from snake bite have been reported. We describe a case of hypopituitarism with clinical, endocrine and magnetic resonance (MR) imaging studies occurring as a delayed complication of snake bite.

A 34-year-old woman was hospitalised with hypotension, lethargy and ventricular tachycardia, five months after an uneventful pregnancy and delivery. Laboratory values were compatible with anterior (abnormal concentrations of adrenocorticotropin hormone, thyroid stimulating hormone, prolactin) and posterior (diabetes insipidus) pituitary gland insufficiency. An MRI scan revealed that there was no pituitary enlargement and that the pituitary stalk was normal. The prompt recognition of hypophysitis as a potentially fatal condition is important, as a life-saving treatment is available.

A case of pituitary adenoma in a patient with myasthenia gravis as well as hypothyroidism, adrenocortical hypopituitarism, and diabetes mellitus is presented. The favorable response of this man's myasthenic symptoms after removal of the adenoma and a possible relationship between the symptomatic expression of myasthenia and a functional hypothalamo-hypophyseal axis are discussed. A link between myasthenia gravis and other autoimmune phenomena is hypothesized.

To date the cause of growth retardation of children who have suffered physical abuse and emotional deprivation is unknown. A case of a 39 year old male patient with slipped capital femoral epiphysis and idiopathic panhypopituitarism is reported. A review of the literature shows that a slipped epiphysis with hypothalamo-hypophyseal dysfunction, may be observed either in a proportional pituitary dwarfism or in a skeletal disproportion of the eunuchoidal or even of the acromegalic type.
