Mucinous metaplasia of breast carcinoma with macrocystic transformation resembling ovarian mucinous cystadenocarcinoma in a case of synchronous bilateral infiltrating ductal carcinoma.

Mammary mucinous cystadenocarcinoma (MCA) is a rare, invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) of the breast that is virtually identical morphologically to MCA of the ovary, pancreas or appendix. Synchronous bilateral breast tumors, not uncommonly encountered in fibroadenoma and lobular carcinoma, are unusual in IDC. Reported herein is a primary MCA of the right breast coexisting with a bilateral ordinary IDC in a 55-year-old Taiwanese woman who underwent modified radical mastectomy of both breasts with bilateral axillary level I and II lymph node dissection. In the right breast a 2.5 cm unilocular mucu

Breast cancer in transgender patients: A systematic review. Part 1: Male to female.

Male-to-Female (MtF) breast cancer events have been reported since 1968 however, MtF patients' risk of breast cancer remain unclear. Following PRISMA guidelines, electronic databases and grey literature were searched April 2018 to identify breast cancer events in MtF transgender persons. Screening and data extraction were independently performed in duplicate by two reviewers. Study quality was assessed using a component-based system. Qualitative analysis was performed on study characteristics, patient demographics, breast cancer characteristics, and breast cancer presentation and management. E

A model to estimate the risk of breast cancer-related lymphedema: combinations of treatment-related factors of the number of dissected axillary nodes, adjuvant chemotherapy, and radiation therapy.

PURPOSE: The development of breast cancer-related lymphedema (LE) is closely related to the number of dissected axillary lymph nodes (N-ALNs), chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. In this study, we attempted to estimate the risk of LE based on combinations of these treatment-related factors. METHODS AND MATERIALS: A total of 772 patients with breast cancer, who underwent primary surgery with axillary lymph node dissection from 2004 to 2009, were retrospectively analyzed. Adjuvant chemotherapy (ACT) was performed in 677 patients (88%). Among patients who received radiation therapy (n=675), 274

Synchronous double tumor of breast cancer and gastrointestinal stromal tumor in a patient with neurofibromatosis type 1: report of a case.

We report a rare case of synchronous double tumor formation of breast cancer and gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) in a patient with neurofibromatosis type 1(NF-1). A 76-year-old woman with a history of NF-1 who had undergone left modified mastectomy for breast cancer seven years previously was admitted to our hospital because of a right breast tumor and abdominal discomfort. Computed tomography revealed an enhanced irregular tumor in the right breast and peripheral enhanced tumors in the abdomen. The patient underwent right modified mastectomy and laparoscopic tumor resection combined wit

Breast lymphoma in Sjögren's syndrome complicated by acute monocular blindness.

A 69-year-old hypertensive woman presented with eye and mouth dryness, bilateral parotid gland enlargement, associated with anasarca and proteinuria. Family history was notable for malignancies including breast, nasopharyngeal and colon cancers. Physical exam disclosed hypertension, bilaterally enlarged, firm, non-tender parotid glands, fine bibasilar crackles and bipedal edema. Anti Ro/Sjögren's syndrome antigen A antibody was positive, with negative tests for anti La/Sjögren's syndrome antigen B and anti-nuclear antibody (ANA). Chest radiographs showed basal infiltrates. Sjögren's syndrome a

[Breast repaired by silicone implant. Case report of necrobiosis lipoidica].

The authors report a very rare case of necrobiosis lipoidica, histopathologically confirmed, which happened in the breast a few months following the insertion of a silicone implant (post-mastectomy reconstruction). This case raises two problems: the physiopathology (role of the silicone implant) and the treatment of this accident, resistant to current therapy.

[Toxic epidermal necrolysis induced by phenytoin and whole brain radiotherapy].

Toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) and Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) have been associated with some drugs, particularly anticonvulsants such as phenytoin. Some authors have pointed out an increased risk of TEN/SJS when phenytoin is associated with whole brain radiotherapy. We report a patient diagnosed with breast adenocarcinoma and brain metastases that was on treatment with phenytoin and, shortly after receiving whole brain radiotherapy, developed toxic epidermal necrolysis.

Clinical pilot studies on pre-operative hyperthermic tumour ablation for advanced breast carcinoma using an 8 MHz radiofrequency heating device.

The multimodality treatment approach for advanced breast cancer provides survival advantages with decreased locoregional and distant recurrences, but these intensive anti-tumour treatments cause severe myelosuppression. Thus, in this study, the usefulness of pre-operative anti-tumour treatment without myelosuppression was investigated. Nine patients with advanced breast carcinoma underwent pre-operative hyperthermic tumour ablation (HTA) using an 8 MHz radiofrequency (RF) heating device (Thermotron RF-8) combined with a grounded needle electrode. The patients had a mean age of 58.3+/-13.9 year

Re-resection rates after breast-conserving surgery as a performance indicator: introduction of a case-mix model to allow comparison between Dutch hospitals.

AIM: Re-resection rate after breast-conserving surgery (BCS) has been introduced as an indicator of quality of surgical treatment in international literature. The present study aims to develop a case-mix model for re-resection rates and to evaluate its performance in comparing results between hospitals. METHODS: Electronic records of eligible patients diagnosed with in-situ and invasive breast cancer in 2006 and 2007 were derived from 16 hospitals in the Rotterdam Cancer Registry (RCR) (n = 961). A model was built in which prognostic factors for re-resections after BCS were identified and exp

Case Report: Chronic expanding axillary hematoma mimicking locoregional recurrence 15 years after breast cancer surgery.

Chronic expanding hematoma (CEH) is a rare condition characterized by progressive enlargement of a hematoma long after an initial hemorrhagic event and may mimic malignancy. We report a 61-year-old woman who developed a progressively enlarging left axillary mass 15 years after modified radical mastectomy followed by adjuvant chemotherapy and radiotherapy for breast cancer. The lesion became ulcerated and spontaneously bled, raising concern for locoregional recurrence. Ultrasonography demonstrated heterogeneous mixed cystic-solid lesions, while systemic evaluation revealed no evidence of distan

Mammary metaplastic squamous cell carcinoma: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Mammary metaplastic squamous cell carcinoma is an exceptionally rare and aggressive triple-negative breast cancer. Its propensity to mimic benign breast abscesses poses a significant diagnostic challenge, often leading to treatment delays. CASE PRESENTATION: A 41-year-old Asian woman presented with a rapidly enlarging right breast mass, initially misdiagnosed and treated as an abscess at a local hospital. Definitive biopsy revealed triple-negative mammary metaplastic squamous cell carcinoma. The patient received neoadjuvant chemotherapy with a nab-paclitaxel, epirubicin, cyclophos

Cystic-Like HER2-Positive Breast Cancer with Low Tumor-Infiltrating Lymphocytes and High Programmed Death-Ligand 1 Expression in a Young Woman: A Case Report.

BACKGROUND: HER2-positive breast cancer is generally correlated with poor prognosis, whereas it demonstrates a favorable response to HER2-targeted therapies. Typically, HER2-positive tumors present as solid masses, while cystic features are exceedingly rare. CASE PRESENTATION: We present a case of a 37-year-old female with imaging findings of a large cystic mass (9.9 × 1.8 cm) in the left breast. Pathological examination confirmed grade III invasive carcinoma of no special type with HER2 positivity and HR positivity, low tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs, 5%), and high PD-L1 expression (CP

Non-retroareolar male mucinous breast cancer without gynecomastia development in an elderly man: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Male breast cancer (MBC) is an extremely rare condition and accounts for less than 1% of all breast cancers, and malignant tumors occur in less than 1% of the affected men. Mucinous breast cancer is extremely rare and accounts for 2% of all invasive breast cancers. Generally, MBC is accompanied by a retroareolar mass. CASE SUMMARY: Herein, we report a case of male mucinous breast carcinoma (MMBC) without gynecomastia development and with mass localization outside the common retroareolar region, wherein the mass was a painless nodule in the right breast of a 64-year-old man. We als

A Case of Locally Advanced Breast Cancer in a 59-Year-Old Man Requiring a Modified Approach to Management.

BACKGROUND Male breast cancer is rare, accounting for approximately 1% of all malignancies in men. The lack of awareness of this rare cancer results in delayed diagnosis and its aggressive behavior can result in poor prognosis. This report is of a case of locally advanced, high-grade breast cancer in a 59-year-old man who was reluctant to undergo diagnostic procedures, and describes the approach to clinical management. CASE REPORT A 59-year-old man presented with a large left breast mass with enlarged axillary lymph nodes. The patient had ignored the mass and declined all diagnostic procedures
