Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is a malignant epithelial neoplasm commonly affecting the skin and oral cavity of dogs, whereas laryngeal involvement is considered rare. Neoplasms arising in the larynx may cause severe upper airway obstruction and present diagnostic and therapeutic challenges due to the anatomical and functional constraints of this region. An 11-year-old neutered male mixed-breed dog was evaluated for a one-month history of progressive upper airway obstruction characterized by dyspnea, tachypnea, and dysphagia. Clinical examination revealed a solitary mass protruding into the la

Sclerosing angiomatoid nodular transformation (SANT) is an uncommon, non-malignant vascular lesion of the spleen that can resemble malignant lesions during imaging studies. Histologically, the spleen comprises two parts: the red pulp, which acts as a blood filter, and the white pulp, which plays a crucial role in immunity. Primary splenic neoplasms are classified into lymphoid neoplasms, which arise from the white pulp, and vascular neoplasms, which arise from the red pulp. Lesions arising from vascular elements include benign lesions, such as hemangioma, hamartoma, and SANT, as well as interm

BACKGROUND: High-grade appendiceal mucinous neoplasm (HAMN) is an uncommon epithelial neoplasm of the appendix, and it is a median risk lesion that can be placed between benign low-grade appendiceal mucinous neoplasm (LAMN) and malignant adenocarcinoma. The diagnosis can be both incidental during surveillance imaging or clinically similar to acute appendicitis, which presents as pain in the right lower quadrant, or local pressure on adjacent organs. It carries the potential to progress to cancer if left untreated. Our aim is to review the literature and to report this rare tumor with outlining

Post-translational modification of histones is the crucial event that affect many tumor-specific traits. A diverse type of histone modifications had been reported in different cancers with prognostic implications. This study aimed to examine the degree of histone H3 modifications in salivary gland neoplasms and their associations with tumor pathologic characteristics and proliferative activity. The expression of H3K9Ac, H3K18Ac, H3K9Me3 and Ki-67 in 70 specimens of salivary gland neoplasms, consisting of 30 mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC), 20 adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) and 20 pleomorphic ad

BACKGROUND: Craniofacial resection (CFR) has been regarded as the gold standard for paranasal sinus and nasal cavity (PNSNC) neoplasms. The improvement of surgical procedures has been ongoing in recent years. We analyzed the clinical curative effects of the function-preservation therapy that was mainly using nasal endoscopic surgery along with appropriate radiotherapy and chemotherapy as applicable.
METHODS: We performed a retrospective analysis of factors that influence the survival time of the 28 patients with PNSNC neoplasms who underwent nasal endoscopic surgery. All patients with tumor l

The aim of this study was to review the dermatopathological findings in skin biopsy specimens from pediatric oncology and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation patients over a 20-year period. Three hundred fifty-two skin biopsies from 240 patients were reviewed, and the findings were grouped into 6 categories: index neoplasms, nonindex neoplasms, infections, graft-versus-host disease, other treatment complications, and others. Among the index neoplasms identified on skin biopsy, the most common conditions were Langerhans cell histiocytosis (14 patients) and melanoma (7 patients), with other

An indoor-only, 5-year-old, spayed female domestic shorthair cat presented for an ophthalmic examination of the left eye. An intraocular tumor with secondary glaucoma and blindness was diagnosed; the globe was enucleated and sent for histopathological examination. Gross examination revealed a solid white mass filling the entire vitreous space and replacing the iris and ciliary body. The lens and retina appeared to be similarly replaced by the neoplasm. Histological examination revealed a complete loss of the internal ocular structures, with a ruptured capsule as the only remnant of the lens wi

Intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMN) was first recognized in the 1980s with increasing publications over the last decade as the incidence increased sharply, especially at tertiary-care referral centers. Population-based studies have estimated the age and sex-adjusted cumulative incidence of IPMN to be 2.04 per 100 000 person-years (95% confidence interval: 1.28-2.80). It is now understood that IPMN can be classified anywhere along the spectrum of the adenoma to carcinoma sequence and often harbors mutations in genes such as KRAS early in the disease process. Many patients are diagnos

CONTEXT: The differential diagnoses of prostatic carcinoma and bladder epithelial neoplasms include several histologic mimics that should be known to avoid misdiagnosis.
OBJECTIVE: To discuss pseudoneoplastic lesions of the prostate and bladder that could potentially be confused with prostatic carcinoma and bladder epithelial neoplasms, respectively, with specific focus on their distinguishing histopathologic features.
DATA SOURCES: Relevant published literature and authors' experience.
CONCLUSIONS: Pseudoneoplastic lesions in the prostate include those of prostatic epithelial origin, the m

Small cell carcinomas of the gallbladder are unusual neoplasms that have been characterized only recently. The authors describe the clinical, histopathologic, immunohistochemical, and molecular features of 12 small cell carcinomas of the gallbladder. The mean age at diagnosis was 69 years, and the male-to-female ratio was 5:7. The neoplasms had an average size of 3 cm, and 90% showed invasion of the muscularis propria and perimuscular connective tissue. Seventy-five percent of the carcinomas had metastasized or extended locally beyond the gallbladder at surgery. Survival was uniformly poor, wi

Predominantly cystic renal neoplasms have been the source of diagnostic confusion and controversy. In this review, the authors analyze the clinical and pathological features of four entities that consistently exhibit a diffusely cystic growth pattern, are strikingly similar in their gross appearances, and are not separable by preoperative imaging studies. Based on the literature, this review concludes that tumors in young children that have been classified as cystic nephroma and cystic partially differentiated nephroblastoma likely represent a single entity, and all should be considered highly

Pancreatic Cystic Neoplasms (PCN) represent a diverse group of tumors, some of which may progress to pancreatic cancer. Considering their high prevalence in the general population, the development of reliable biomarkers is crucial. The ideal biomarker will accurately diagnose the subtype of PCN and assess the risk of high-grade dysplasia or invasive cancer. Cyst fluid analysis has emerged as a promising approach to accomplish this goal, yet no single marker has yet gained unanimous support for routine inclusion in PCN evaluation.

Peripheral ameloblastoma is a rare, benign, slow-growing odontogenic neoplasm prevalent in the mandible. It originates from the odontogenic epithelium and its remnants, and its histological characteristics are identical to those of intraosseous ameloblastoma. It is less aggressive and invasive than its intraosseous variety, with a low recurrence rate. This report vividly portrays a rare case of peripheral ameloblastoma in a young male patient, detailing its clinical and surgical presentation. It effectively underscores the importance of considering peripheral ameloblastoma in the differential

Trichoblastic carcinoma (TBC) is a rare adnexal neoplasm of follicular germ cell differentiation with the potential for local invasion and metastasis. Histologic features of trichoblastic carcinoma have significant overlap with trichoblastoma and basal cell carcinoma (BCC), making diagnosis difficult in some cases. Treatment strategies are not well defined and include surgical excision for localized tumors and systemic therapies for metastatic disease. We present a case of trichoblastic carcinoma clinically resembling a benign cyst that was ultimately treated with Mohs micrographic surgery (MM

Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma-keratoacanthoma (cSCC-KA) is a benign but aggressive neoplasm arising from keratinizing epidermal cells. In this case, we report a 56-year-old man who developed a KA on the right second toe after experiencing a minor trauma to the same region, without osteolysis or nodal invasion. Second toe amputation was performed under sedation. Our case highlights the features of cSCC-KA, its association with trauma, and the importance of early diagnosis and treatment.

Tumors of the abdominal wall are rare, divided into benign and malignant lesions that are composed of primary tumors and by the parietal invasion of intra-abdominal tumors and metastatic parietal implants. In the case of metastases in the abdominal wall, the most frequent are metastases from neoplasms of colonic origin. The case described below is that of a 68-year-old patient with a history of stage IIA left lung adenocarcinoma who received partial response radiotherapy with an indication for chemotherapy, which she refused and lost follow-up.

Thymic neuroendocrine tumours are rare anterior mediastinal neoplasms often associated with paraneoplastic syndromes. A patient presented with intractable hyponatraemia and a DOTATATE-avid mediastinal mass. Following medical optimization, she underwent thoracoscopic thymectomy with en bloc thymic small-cell carcinoma resection. Her symptoms resolved and her sodium levels normalized. In localized disease, curative-intent, minimally invasive thymic neuroendocrine tumour resection is safe and effective following preoperative staging and paraneoplastic syndrome management.

Ultrasound-guided core biopsy is a minimally invasive technique able to identify lymphoma accompanying Sjögren syndrome, neoplasms or infiltrative diseases, with less complications compared to open biopsy. With these images, we aim to describe the ultrasound-guided core biopsy procedure, in a female patient with rheumatoid arthritis who presented evident inhomogeneity of the parotid gland. The procedure was performed by rheumatologists, trained in ultrasonography of the salivary glands, demonstrating that ultrasound-guided core biopsy is an easy and safe method to obtain salivary gland tissue.
