[Basal cell nevus syndrome with Duchenne muscular dystrophy: a case report].

Basal cell nevus syndrome (BCNS), also known as Gorlin-Goltz syndrome, is a rare autosomal dominant genetic disease. It is thought to be caused by a mutation in the PTCH1 gene, and its incidence is 1/57 000 to 1/256 000. The case of a 7-year-old patient with BCNS and Duchenne muscular dystrophy was reported in this paper.

Cutaneous Keratocyst With D2-40 Immunoreactivity in Basal Cell Nevus Syndrome.

Although not a diagnostic criterion for basal cell nevus syndrome (BCNS, OMIM#109400), cutaneous cysts, particularly epidermoid cysts, are common in this condition. Cutaneous keratocysts, on the other hand, are extremely rare in general and have been identified in only 5 patients with BCNS. Here, we describe a BCNS patient with a cutaneous keratocyst that demonstrated D2-40 (podoplanin) immunoreactivity, which has been detected in odontogenic keratocysts but not cutaneous keratocysts. This finding suggests that cutaneous keratocysts may be developmentally homologous to odontogenic keratocysts …

Systematized Epidermal Nevus Syndrome Involving the Upper and Lower Eyelids Bilaterally.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

A 29-year-old woman presented with dark-colored raised lesions on both eyelids since early childhood. Ophthalmological examination revealed pigmented verrucous lesions on her upper and lower eyelids bilaterally. The patient had a history of generalized tonic-clonic seizures. Dermatological examination revealed hyperpigmented verrucous plaques arranged along lines of Blaschko on the neck, trunk, and arms. On the basis of these findings, the diagnosis of epidermal nevus syndrome (ENS) was made. She had surgery for debulking of the lesions. Histological analysis revealed hyperkeratosis with foci …

Cutaneous Melanoma Arising in Congenital Melanocytic Nevus: A Retrospective Observational Study.

BACKGROUND: Congenital melanocytic nevi (CMN) are benign proliferations of melanocytes usually present at birth. The magnitude of the melano … ermoscopic features in the malignant part. About three quarters of melanomas occupied 10-50% of the nevus surface. Breslow thickness was higher in melanomas involving less than 10% of nevus surface (mean thickness, 1 mm) than in those affecting 10-50 and >50% of the nevus surface (0.8 and 0.7 mm, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: In our series, small CMN was …

Linear verrucous epidermal nevus with oral manifestations: report of two cases.

Linear verrucous epidermal nevi (LVEN) are characterized by verrucous papules often coalescing into well-demarcated skin-colored or brown plaques following the lines of Blaschko. We present two new cases of LVEN with oral mucosa involvement and briefly discuss this very rare finding. In both cases, oral biopsies showed hyperkeratosis, acanthosis, and papillomatosis. Although several treatment modalities have been reported for the cutaneous lesions, there is no consensus for the management of oral lesions so far.

Late Onset Achromatic Melanoma Arising in a Giant Congenital Melanocytic Nevus.

A 61-year-old woman, with a lifelong history of a giant congenital melanocytic nevus in the occipital region with secondary development of giant melanoma is presented. Surgical excision was performed, and the histopathological evaluation confirmed the diagnosis of Giant Malignant Melanoma (GMM) with a maximum tumour thickness of 16 mm. Nowadays, there is tremendous uncertainty regarding how giant congenital melanocytic nevi (GCMN) should be treated. The standard approach to patients with late onset giant congenital melanocytic nevi (GCMN is based on two main considerations: (1) obtain an accep…

Fibroblastic connective tissue nevus: Clinicopathological and immunohistochemical study of 14 cases.

BACKGROUND: We present herein a series of 14 lesions showing overlapping features with the newly defined benign cutaneous mesenchymal neoplasm labeled as fibroblastic connective tissue nevus (FCTN). METHODS AND RESULTS: Total of 8 patients were male and 5 were female, ranging in age from 1 to 56 years. Lesions appeared as isolated nodules or plaques on the trunk (7 cases), the limbs (4 cases) and the neck (2 cases). Histologically, all cases were composed of bundles of bland spindle cells of fibroblastic/myofibroblastic lineage irregularly branching within the reticular dermis and along fibro…

Nevus anemicus in neurofibromatosis type 1: a potential new diagnostic criterion.

BACKGROUND: Children with multiple café-au-lait macules (CALMs) may be followed for years before a second National Institutes of Health clinical criterion of neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) develops to confirm the diagnosis. OBJECTIVE: We sought to assess the prevalence of nevus anemicus (NA) in NF1 and its association with neuro-ophthalmologic complications. METHODS: This was a prospective multicenter case-control study of 210 consecutive patients with multiple CALMs. Patients with NF1 were matched for age, sex, and center with control subjects. We documented the number, location, and morpho…

Coexistence of aplasia cutis congenita, faun tail nevus and fetus papyraceus.

BACKGROUND: Aplasia cutis congenita is a disorder of the skin embryonic development characterized by a defect of localized or widespread areas of skin at birth. The lesions are mostly oval, 1-3 cm in diameter, with localization on the parietal part of scalp (60%) and rarely on the face and extremities. MAIN OBSERVATIONS: Herein, we reported a case of aplasia cutis congenita termly born at 39 weeks of gestation to a 30-year-old mother with bronchial asthma attacks. She was referred for 3 punched-out punctate depressed defective lesions in 0.4 cm's diameter on the vertex covered with necrotic a

Epidermal nevus syndrome associated with unusual neurological, ocular, and skeletal features.

Epidermal nevus syndrome (ENS) is a rare disease, the pathogenesis of which is largely elusive. We, hereby, report an exclusive case of a 20-year-old man with verrucous ENS presented with dark colored papules and plaques along the Blaschko's lines present over the head and neck area along with fleshy growth in both eyes since birth. Limb length discrepancy and kyphoscoliosis were remarkable. Skin biopsy was compatible with verrucous epidermal nevus while the biopsy of the ocular lesion confirmed complex choristoma. MRI brain revealed calcification in the right temporal lobe. Bilateral arachnoi…

Acquired patch-type blue nevus with overlying vitiligo: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Blue nevi are a group of congenital and acquired dermal melanocytoses characterized by a blue-gray appearance on the skin. The common blue nevus and cellular blue nevus are the most common subtypes. Patch-type blue nevus is rather rare. OBSERVATIONS: We describe a 77-year-old Chinese male with a 6 × 8-cm non-palpable blue patch overlaid by a depigmented patch on the back of the left scalp. Histological examination of the blue-gray patch showed numerous spindled and elongated bipolar dendritic melanocytes in the upper reticular dermis and an absence of epidermal melanocytes. Immuno…

Angiomatoid giant cellular blue nevus of vaginal wall associated with pregnancy.

BACKGROUND: Blue nevi that arise from the Müllerian tract are rare melanocytic lesions. Several histopathologic variants of cellular blue ne … ient had a postoperative course without complication. CONCLUSIONS: Angiomatoid giant cellular blue nevus arising from the vagina during pregnancy is extremely rare. The low proliferative index and absence of cytologic pleomorphism, or necrosis, supports a benign biological behavior. Clinical follow-up showed no evidence of recurrence at one year after …

Hemimegalencephalic variant of epidermal nevus syndrome: case report and literature review.

The epidermal nevus syndrome (ENS) is an uncommon neurocutaneous disorder in which epidermal nevi are found in association with congenital abnormalities of the brain, eye, and/or skeleton. The association of epidermal nevi and neurologic abnormalities was comprehensively described by Schimmelpenning in 1957. Pavone et al. (1991) identified a homogeneous variant of ENS with hemimegalencephaly, gyral malformation, mental retardation, seizures and facial hemihypertrophy. A 13-year-old boy with the neurologic variant of ENS with hemimegalencephaly, facial asymmetry, febrile seizures and mental ret…

Ovarian fibromas in pediatric patients with basal cell nevus (Gorlin) syndrome.

BACKGROUND: Gorlin syndrome is a rare genetic condition consisting of multiple basal cell nevi associated with other entities such as medulloblastoma, skeletal abnormalities, and ovarian fibromas. CASE: A 15-year-old girl presented with abdominal discomfort. Magnetic resonance imaging showed multiple bilateral solid adnexal masses, the largest measuring 5.5 cm × 6.1 cm × 5.6 cm. At laparoscopy, 10 ovarian fibromas, ranging from 3 mm to 7 cm in size, were removed from each ovary. Concurrent with her gynecologic course, she was found to have maxillary sinus cysts and multiple basal cell nevi. T
