AIM: To study the role of Helicobacter pylori (HP) persistence in generation of gastric mucosa adenoma.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Esophagogastroduodenoscopy with biopsy of the mucosa from the antral portion and body of the stomach was made for diagnosis of HP and morphological changes in 28 patients aged 47 to 86 years with gastric adenoma.

There are very few reports about prevalence of presenile dementia in Brazil. We reviewed files of patients evaluated with early onset of cognitive impairment in our institution. Among 141 patients (61% males) there was no difference between gender by age at onset or at first evaluation. We have observed an increasing number of patients after 50 years. The most frequent causes were: vascular dementia (36.9%), Alzheimer's disease (20.3%) and traumatic brain injury (9.2%). SETTING/DESIGN: Prospective primary source evidence was gathered at two prominent outpatient acupuncture clinics in Beijing, China (n = 563, n = 233).
RESULTS: The most common condition was Bell's palsy, which represented 20.6% and 25.3% of total cases at the two clinics, respectively. PURPOSE OF REVIEW: This review is to inform the ongoing debate about the choice between ultrasound and hysteroscopy in the management of endometrial disease presenting with abnormal uterine bleeding using information provided from recently published literature.
RECENT FINDINGS: Transvaginal ultrasound measurement of endometrial thickness, using 4 or 5 mm cut-offs to define abnormality, is a good test for excluding endometrial cancer in women with postmenopausal bleeding. In contrast, hysteroscopy is a good test for detecting endometrial cancer, but less effective at excluding serious disease.

BACKGROUND: Tissue diagnosis of either interstitial lung disease or indeterminate pulmonary nodules can be obtained by either limited thoracotomy or thoracoscopic lung biopsy. Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is a common condition presenting to Genitourinary Medicine clinics in the UK. It is unclear what is the best therapeutic option in the outpatient setting. Adherence to recommended services is essential for long-term effectiveness of ambulatory treatment programs, but factors associated with such adherence are not securely established. We evaluated attendance at 896 scheduled psychiatric clinic visits for 62 patients at a major psychiatric teaching hospital. Intravenous administration of quinupristin/dalfopristin outside the hospital setting has not been reported previously. We describe 37 outpatients receiving quinupristin/dalfopristin iv for infections including osteomyelitis, bacteraemia, abscesses and cellulitis.
