BACKGROUND: Periodic paralysis (PP) is an autosomal dominant muscle disorder characterized by periodic muscle weakness attacks associated with serum potassium level variations. BACKGROUND: Headache is one of the most common symptoms following delivery and the underlying cause may be benign or life threatening. Identification of the cause of headache in the postpartum period can be challenging and relies on a comprehensive history and thorough examination, with particular focus on the presence or absence of neurological signs, which may suggest a more serious diagnosis (Nelson-Piercy 2010 ). BACKROUND: Aspiration of stomach content is a severe complication during general anaesthesia. The DGAI (German Society for Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine) guidelines recommend a fasting period for liquids of 2 h, with a maximum of 400 ml. Preoperative fasting can affect the patients' recovery after surgery due to insulin resistance and higher protein catabolism as a response to surgical stress.
OBJECTIVES: The aim of the study was to compare a liberal fasting regimen consisting of up to 1000 ml of liquids until 2 h before surgery with the DGAI recommendation.

Normal saline has traditionally been the resuscitation fluid of choice in the perioperative period of kidney transplantation over balanced potassium solutions. An evaluation of cognitive functions was presented in 90 patients undergoing thyroid surgery. An attention deterioration, shot-term memory impairment and degradation were revealed after operation.
