Characterizing delinquent behavior in early adolescence: Results from the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development- Social Development study.

We examined associations among early delinquent behaviors and key personality traits, psychopathology, and environmental factors among youth enrolled in the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development - Social Development (ABCD-SD) study, a substudy of the national ABCD study. Establishing these associations at baseline is an important step for identifying early risk factors for delinquent behavior. The ABCD-SD study includes annual assessments of delinquency, victimization, and personality features for participants from five sites (N = 2,426). We used all data from the ABCD-SD baseline assessment

Mapping the Neuropsychiatric Symptoms in Alzheimer's Disease Using Biomarkers, Cognitive Abilities, and Personality Traits: A Systematic Review.

Background/Objectives: Symptoms (NPS) in Alzheimer's disease (AD) have multiple effects in daily living, not only for the patients but for their caregivers too. The present systematic review was performed in order to identify if biomarkers, cognitive functions, and personality traits can be considered as important factors for the development and maintenance of these symptoms. Methods: To achieve that, the existing literature spanning the period from 2018 to 2024 was critically analyzed. To be included in the review, a study had to investigate any of the factors mentioned above. In total, 182 a

Integrating research on interpersonal and organizational attraction via personality traits and value congruence.

Attraction is a psychological tendency characterized by positive affect, a positive evaluative response, and an approach motivation toward a target (e.g., person, group, or organization). Both interpersonal attraction and organizational attraction fall under this broad construct and serve as antecedents to behaviors aimed at forming formal social bonds with the target (e.g., initiating a close relationship with a person or submitting a job application to an organization). Although these two literatures have developed largely independently over the past few decades, they share substantial conce

Protective and vulnerability personality traits associated with PTSD diagnosis after preterm delivery.

Giving birth prematurely is a traumatic event that has many consequences for the mother but also for her baby and their family. Studies have shown that about a quarter of these mothers will suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as a result. This study aims to identify internal personality factors associated with the development of PTSD in mothers who gave birth before 33 weeks. The results revealed significant correlations between two personality dimensions (neuroticism and extraversion) and the likeliness of developing PTSD in mothers who gave birth prematurely. Neuroticism is pos

Disruptive behavior disorders: taking an RDoC(ish) approach.

The disruptive behavior disorders include Conduct Disorder (CD), Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). These disorders are highly comorbid with each other as well as with mood and anxiety disorders and personality disorders (particularly borderline personality disorder). The goal of this chapter is to consider these disorders from an RDoC(ish) approach. In other words, we will outline four functional processes and the behavioral implications of dysfunction within these processes. Moreover, we will briefly consider how dysfunction in one might

[Affective dependency].

Affective dependency is characterized by emotional distress (insecure attachment) and dependency to another person with a low self-esteem and reassurance need. The paper proposes a reflection on the definition of emotional dependency and the confusion caused by various denominations. Overprotective and authoritarian parenting, cultural and socio-environmental factors may contribute to the development of dependent personality. Psychological epigenetic factors, such as early socio-emotional trauma could <imprint>> on neuronal circuits in prefronto-limbic regions that are essential for emotional

[Prison psychosis and dissociative disorders].

Through a few clinical case histories stemming from their daily activities at the psychiatric section of the Lantin Prison, the authors propose to revisit the classic concept of Prison psychosis. They broaden its limits to include other psychotic and dissociative phenomena common to the jail population. This requires a strict differential diagnosis, allowing to eliminate some similar pathologies; nevertheless, some difficulties and imperfections persist. The development of the psychosis, the input from the jail architecture and milieu, the predisposing as well as facilitating factors linked to

[Clinical picture and features of the dynamics of vegetative crises in patients with neurotic disorders].

The author studied 115 patients with principal clinical forms of neuroses and neurotic developments of personality, with the clinical picture characterized by vegetative crises. Using clinical follow-up examinations of patients and specially designed questionnaires, the characteristic features of the clinical picture and the time-course of vegetative crises were investigated. The findings showed the dependence of the crisis structure on the character of the main neurotic syndrome and the relationship between the structure of crises and permanent vegetative disorders in patients. The time-cours

Romantic relationship obsessive-compulsive doubts, perfectionism, and DSM-5 personality traits in LGB people: a comparison with heterosexual individuals.

INTRODUCTION: Relationship Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder is characterized by the presence of relationship-centered or partner-focused obsessions and compulsions that determine a great sense of doubt toward the partner or the relationship. Personality characteristics, including perfectionism, are involved in the development of Relationship Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, and could predispose the individual to excessive doubts and preoccupations regarding the "adequacy of the couple" or the physical appearance of one's partner. Evidence from epidemiological research shows that the LGB community c

Enhancing oral competence: Evidence-based strategies for developing foreign language speaking skills in Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing (DHH) learners.

This study examines evidence-based pedagogical strategies aimed at enhancing communication competence, with a particular focus on foreign language speaking skills, among Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) students at the primary education level. Acknowledging the distinct linguistic, cognitive, and communicative characteristics of DHH learners, the research addresses the central question: Which instructional techniques most effectively promote the development of speaking and broader communicative abilities in this population? Employing a qualitative research design, the study engaged 55 primary-le

Creativity of undergraduates with and without family history of alcohol and other drug problems.

Noble, Runco, and Ozkaragoz (1993) provided evidence that alcoholics' children differ negatively from recovering alcoholics' and nonalcoholics' children in terms of personality characteristics related to creativity. They also found that divergent thinking test scores among the three groups of children are similar, yet the possibility exists that offspring compensate for the personality deficits and maintain productively creative lives in spite of the negative influence of parental substance use. This study investigated the impact of parental substance abuse problems on 163 undergraduates' crea

Personality disorder and self-wounding.

At least 1 in 600 adults wound themselves sufficiently to need hospital treatment. More men than women do it, although more women receive psychological treatment. Many have a history of sexual or physical abuse. Self-wounding differs from other self-harm in being aimed neither at mutilation nor at death. Self-wounding coerces others and relieves personal distress. Repeated self-wounding is one criterion of borderline personality disorder but we prefer to consider it an 'addictive' behaviour rather than an expression of a wider disorder. Psychological management may need to be augmented by drug

'Schizoid' personality in childhood and adult life. I: The vagaries of diagnostic labelling.

The literature is reviewed on children variously described as having 'schizoid' personality disorders, Asperger's syndrome, and schizotypal personality disorders, with the aim of clarifying the nature of these clinical syndromes, and in particular the features of those children whose follow-up characteristics are described in the following two papers.

The interplay between pathological organizations and the paranoid-schizoid and depressive positions.

I have presented clinical material to illustrate how a pathological organization can be considered to exist in an equilibrium with the paranoid-schizoid and depressive positions. While making use of paranoid-schizoid mechanisms such as primitive splitting and projective identification, the defensive structure is highly organized and held together by narcissistic intrapsychic relationships in which perverse gratification plays an important role. This organization of defences seems to be designed to produce a place of real or illusionary safety from the anxieties experienced in the other two pos
