Study on the impact of meteorological factors on influenza in different periods and prediction based on artificial intelligence RF-Bi-LSTM algorithm: to compare the COVID-19 period with the non-COVID-19 period.

OBJECTIVE: At different times, public health faces various challenges and the degree of intervention measures varies. The research on the impact and prediction of meteorology factors on influenza is increasing gradually, however, there is currently no evidence on whether its research results are affected by different periods. This study aims to provide limited evidence to reveal this issue. METHODS: Daily data on influencing factors and influenza in Xiamen were divided into three parts: overall period (phase AB), non-COVID-19 epidemic period (phase A), and COVID-19 epidemic period (phase B).

Does a combination of ≥2 abnormal tests vs. the ERC-ESICM stepwise algorithm improve prediction of poor neurological outcome after cardiac arrest? A post-hoc analysis of the ProNeCA multicentre study.

BACKGROUND: Bilaterally absent pupillary light reflexes (PLR) or N20 waves of short-latency evoked potentials (SSEPs) are recommended by the 2015 ERC-ESICM guidelines as robust, first-line predictors of poor neurological outcome after cardiac arrest. However, recent evidence shows that the false positive rates (FPRs) of these tests may be higher than previously reported. We investigated if testing accuracy is improved when combining PLR/SSEPs with malignant electroencephalogram (EEG), oedema on brain computed tomography (CT), or early status myoclonus (SM). METHODS: Post-hoc analysis of ProNe

Reevaluation of Lyme serologic quantitative test indexes: confirmation that high first-tier test index values predict a positive second-tier result in a modified 2-tier Lyme testing algorithm.

OBJECTIVES: In a previous study, we reported that using a first-tier quantitative Lyme serologic index may obviate the need for second-tier confirmatory testing in samples above a defined cutoff value. Here we have expanded on the sample size to confirm and better refine the potential utility of the serologic index to aid in timely clinical decision-making. METHODS: We reviewed 1 year of Lyme serologic test results sent to our laboratory for testing using a modified 2-tier testing algorithm (MTTT) to determine the probability of second-tier confirmation based on the initial Lyme index value.

Evaluating the predictive power of the body roundness index (BRI) versus traditional obesity measures for female infertility: a hybrid approach using regression models and machine learning algorithms on cross-sectional data.

The Body Roundness Index (BRI) has recently been proposed as an effective metric for assessing obesity-related health risks, but its association with female infertility remains insufficiently studied. This study aims to evaluate the predictive power of BRI in comparison to traditional obesity measures (waist circumference (WC) and body mass index (BMI)) for predicting female infertility using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). A total of 2962 women aged 18-45 years were included in this cross-sectional analysis. Multivariable logistic regression models wer

Developing and Validating an Inclusive and Cost-Effective Prediction Algorithm for Survival and Death Among People Living With HIV in Sub-Saharan Africa: Protocol for a Meta-Analysis and Case-Control and Cost-Effectiveness Study.

BACKGROUND: Premature death in people with HIV in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) is highly preventable. However, the lack of inclusive, cost-effective prognostic tools remains challenging. Most prognostic tools have been developed in high-income economies. The distinct cultural dynamics in HIV-related death epidemiology makes them unsuitable for the region. Additionally, the models lack systematic stratification of death determinants based on clinical relevance, and some included factors are too expensive for people with HIV in SSA. OBJECTIVE: We aimed to create a tailored predictive model that con

[Advances in warfarin's anticoagulation therapy in Chinese population after mechanical valve replacement].

Warfarin is an irreplaceable oral anticoagulant for patients with mechanical heart valves, the stable pharmacogenetic-based warfarin dose prediction algorithms have improved the effectiveness and safety of warfarin anticoagulation therapy. Genetic factors are the main factors affecting the stable dose of warfarin. Single nucleotide polymorphisms such as VKORC1 and CYP2C9 affect the anticoagulation effect of warfarin through pharmacodynamic or pharmacokinetic pathways. Age, body surface area, combined use of drugs, and other nongenetic factors also affect the stable dose of warfarin. Previously…

A simple algorithm to predict non-compliance with organ at risk dose-volume constraints when planning intensity modulated post-prostatectomy radiation treatment: 'Why we should put the CART before the horse'.

INTRODUCTION: It is not always apparent when the optimal IMRT/VMAT plan for post-prostatectomy radiotherapy (PPRT) has been achieved. Individual variation in patient anatomy is a key contributor. This study aimed to create a model to determine the probability of rectum and/or bladder doses exceeding planning goals based on individual patient anatomy prior to planning. METHODS: The IMRT/VMAT PPRT plans from 200 men were randomly and evenly allocated into the Training Cohort and the Validation Cohort. Univariate and multivariate analysis of the Training Cohort identified variables which impacte

Machine learning based risk prediction for Parkinson's disease with nationwide health screening data.

Although many studies have been conducted on machine learning (ML) models for Parkinson's disease (PD) prediction using neuroimaging and movement analyses, studies with large population-based datasets are limited. We aimed to propose PD prediction models using ML algorithms based on the National Health Insurance Service-Health Screening datasets. We selected individuals who participated in national health-screening programs > 5 times between 2002 and 2015. PD was defined based on the ICD-code (G20), and a matched cohort of individuals without PD was selected using a 1:1 random sampling method.

Initial steps towards developing a predictive algorithm of disease progression for hidradenitis suppurativa (HS): results from a Cox proportional hazard regression analysis on disease progression among a cohort of 335 Danish patients with HS.

BACKGROUND: Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic inflammatory and scarring disease with a wide spectrum of disease severity. The amount of scarring is proportional to the preceding tissue damage and poses a challenge to patients. Severe HS is most often treatment recalcitrant, but hypothetically avoidable through early biologic treatment. Early prediction of individual risk of disease progression is therefore essential for patient management. OBJECTIVES: To investigate risk factors associated with disease progression and to design an algorithm capable of predicting disease -progression.
