Activity and isoenzyme composition of certain enzymes of glycolysis of rat small intestine enterocytes was studied in the course of exposure to X radiation. Hexokinase activity was shown to increase significantly throughout the entire period of observation. Activity of pyruvate kinase and lactate dehydrogenase was inhibited at early (days 1-3) and increased at later (days 5-10) times of observation.

The relationship between emesis and taste aversion learning was studied in ferrets (Mustela putorius furo) following exposure to ionizing radiation (50-200 cGy) or injection of lithium chloride (1.5-3.0 mEq/kg, ip). In experiments with mature Wistar male rats it was shown that X-radiation of 12.9 mCi/kg and the combined effect of X-rays and 131I of 6.5 mCi/kg changed the rate of mediator processes in the structures responsible for the hypothalamic function regulation. At remote times (6 months) following irradiation differences were observed in the discoordination of mediator interrelations associated with the peculiarities of the indirect effect of external and combined irradiation implemented via endocrine mechanism system.

Retinoblastoma (RB) is a cancer of the retina which characteristically occurs in early childhood. Bilateral RB is an inherited form of this disease. Within the general public of the United States, there may be a discrepancy between perceived and actual health risks. The psychological stressors and their aftereffects associated with the Three Mile Island accident, the Goiania, Brazil, cesium-137 accident, and the Abadia, Brazil, storage location are summarized and compared. Cross-cultural comparisons of human responses to ionizing radiation are rare. A multidisciplinary methodological approach to examining the psychological responses to ionizing radiation is even more rare. The psychological, behavioral, neuroendocrine, and cardiovascular results are summarized for Three Mile Island, Goiania, and Abadia.

A synergistic interaction of hyperthermia with ionizing or UV light (254 nm) radiation was analyzed in experiments with yeast cells. The purpose of this study was to examine whether changes in the repair capacity of blood cells could be used as a valuable biomarker for radiation exposure.
